LG G Pro Lite Dual (D686) review: bold modesty. LG G Pro Lite Dual (D686) review: the bold modesty of the LG 686

What I liked

large screen, brightness reserve, relatively powerful processor.

What I didn't like

After half a year of use, I am editing the review:
The main drawback for me, which I couldn’t get along with, is the blinding minimum brightness of the screen. It hurts my eyes in the dark.
I was waiting for the update with the correction to be downloaded, but alas...
1. Slowly receives traffic, distributes wi-fi accordingly (connected with hardware);
2. Sound (processing quality is not very good, Sony, Samsung, Apple is better, very noticeable in headphones, this is an LG feature);
3. Quality of materials: the lid and screen are cracked (who knows where their hands are..=);
4. Weak hardware, but I don’t play games, I didn’t notice, it’s well optimized.

What I liked

1. Design: beautiful (“neat” looking), fits well in the hand and pocket; 2. Screen: very high quality, not noticeably low resolution; 3. Battery: optimal capacity for such performance; 4. Stylus: sometimes very useful (UD to PC; Notes to jot down or sketch); 5. Camera: acceptable quality of photos (documents and street); 6. Shell: optimized, many convenient features and settings. 7. Speakers: both the conversational speaker and the main speaker are loud, do not squeak or crackle.

What I didn't like

when dropped, a bunch of scratches appear.... I've been using it for three months, it's already starting to freeze... the front camera is terrible!... the size is too large, it's not convenient to do anything with one hand, especially write a message... the letters E, B are missing in the keyboard... no I know why..

What I liked

beautiful design large screen battery lasts a long time

What I didn't like

Turned out to be immediately faulty

What I liked

What I didn't like

The battery is weak, the buttons do not work well, the settings reset on its own.

What I liked

Two SIM cards, you can clearly hear the interlocutor.

What I didn't like

Battery don't flatter yourself. it doesn't hold charge. In the evening I charge it to 100 percent. and in the morning the charge is 70 percent. the phone didn’t ring, didn’t play, it just lay there overnight and where did it eat up 30 percent of the charge????? When dialing a number, it freezes almost every other time, only a reboot helps. Don’t take it so you don’t get upset later.

What I liked

What I didn't like

The return control buttons are located close to the edge of the case and you often press them involuntarily when holding the smartphone. These buttons are also not backlit. You poke at random in a dark place.

What I liked

Good viewing angles and screen. The stylus is inserted into the smartphone. For everything else, see the specification. Can be used as an IR remote and it works

What I didn't like

Constant freezing when trying to make a call, thinking for a few seconds, apparently an outdated processor with a constantly full RAM makes itself felt. Periodic reset of time zone settings is spontaneous, I overslept a couple of times on the way to work. The button lives its own life, it can turn on the screen in your pocket - a poorly implemented function on this model. The battery is not so powerful; with active use, the screen at minimum +Wifi +3G lasts no more than 6 hours, but in standby mode it really lasts a long time; it only consumed 2% overnight.

What I liked

Nice juicy very bright screen, good build

What I didn't like

Applications are not transferred to an external memory card. weak processor

What I liked

everything is fine

What I didn't like

Allegedly, the metal frame along the edge, on the front side of the phone, already has four dents, but it’s also not a fact that anyone will encounter this. I always put my phone in the armrest in the car, and it often gets it from the armrest cover.)))

What I liked

The phone, for its money, is beyond praise. Screen, battery, operating speed, durability, build quality, stylus, shock resistance (tested after a year of use), speakers at the bottom of the phone (you will never shut them up and will always hear a call), SIM card switch button (whoever uses a speakerphone in the car will understand) .

What I didn't like

For me, in principle, there are no disadvantages for this price.

What I liked

Big screen, powerful battery, unkillable.

What I didn't like

Nowadays it is outdated - the display has a low resolution, a 2-core processor and only 1 MHz, after minimizing programs or games when incoming call they are not restored, the phone hangs and gets hot.

What I liked

larger display

What I didn't like

There are a lot of shortcomings, but this is when compared with flagships. The case is very susceptible to cosmetic defects; in a couple of months it will peel off like a Samsung. The screen is easily soiled, but this is when compared with flagship displays. Very terrible sound if you listen to the player. I have a HIFI player, before that I listened to music on a blackberry Z10 - so in this LG the sound on the headphones is such that you listen to it as if it were a Chinese player for 200 rubles. The firmware is not coming out yet. The big minus is the fact that the double-tap feature on the screen does not match. Before that I had a Lumiya 925 - it always responded by double tapping on the screen - but now it’s the other way around. Out of 20 times, it will work 2 times, or even once. This is very annoying, since the function is really necessary. I love LG, but a lot of things stop me. One of the disadvantages is getting used to such large “shovels”. The rest seem small and you don’t want a smaller phone, although such shovels are terribly inconvenient to carry in your pockets, there’s nowhere to put them on a bike. Only in a backpack. Games slow down, it’s possible to play but there’s no pleasure in it. The minions are slowing down, Maleficent is slowing down. I installed the swiftKey keyboard - so when you call the keyboard, the phone thinks for a second.

Hi all! And so we return again to reviews of mobile technology. Today we are reviewing a smartphone from LG called “LG E988 Optimus G Pro”. This smartphone can already be confidently considered the company’s past flagship, since another flagship “LG G2” has already taken its place on the shelves. Life cycle“LG E988 Optimus G Pro” turned out to be very short, but nevertheless it remains a fairly advanced smartphone and it’s hard to call it outdated, especially since there is something to tell about it.

Packaging, complete set.

The smartphone comes in a rectangular box made of thick cardboard. The overall style and design of the packaging are made in Hi Tech style. The bottom of the box is completely black, and on the back there is a short Technical information. The top of the box looks like a silver metal mesh. This design looks very stylish and elegant. By the way, our smartphone is completely made in South Korea, which is quite rare lately.

Equipment.

Let's see what's in the box.

1. The smartphone itself.

2. Rechargeable battery.

3. Charger.

4. USB cable.

5. Documentation.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this is such a meager and incomprehensible package, but this was once the company’s flagship. Imaginary savings even on the simplest headset. A strange approach in the company to taking care of our wallets. But in their homeland, Koreans have a completely different set of supplies. A second battery, a docking station for charging the phone and the battery itself, a fairly high-quality headset. As they say, the difference is obvious!

Appearance, design.

LG E988 Optimus G Pro is a classic candy bar. The general appearance of the smartphone turned out to be quite successful. The smartphone in question has a white coloring and this is a rare case when White color Suitable for both women and men, it’s sort of unisex. The corners are traditionally round. The thickness is almost 10mm. Of course, you can’t call a smartphone skinny, but it doesn’t seem fat either, one might say it’s a kind of golden mean. What immediately catches your eye is the vertically elongated screen and very narrow frames (about 2mm) along the edges of the screen, on this moment This is one of the smallest indicators on the market, naturally these indicators are for the better. Thanks to these two details, the screen occupies almost the entire front part and, best of all, the smartphone does not feel like a shovel in your hands at all. You get used to its size as soon as you take it out of the box and take it for granted. And perhaps the most significant point in the entire design and design of the smartphone is the ability to work quite comfortably with one hand.

For example in Samsung Galaxy Note 2 the screen is only 0.05 inches larger and it is almost impossible to work on it with one hand, but our hero gives this opportunity, which is undoubtedly a very big plus. Smartphone weight 176g. This figure is slightly above average and is a fairly comfortable value so that the smartphone does not feel heavy. Clearly, the design of the LG E988 Optimus G Pro was a great success; the company found almost ideal proportions for comfortable work with this device.

It just so happens that Korean smartphone manufacturers (LG, Samsung) use exclusively plastic in the design of their flagships. We will not delve into the reasons for this trend. There is no metal in the design. Naturally, our test subject is entirely made of plastic. Only the frame of the main camera is made of metal. As I said above, the color is white and the plastic texture is glossy, which creates a risk of dropping the smartphone from your hands since the surface is quite slippery. The back cover has a pattern in the form of a tiled mosaic of white and gray small squares, and this solution looks quite original. It is noteworthy that in the previous model, namely the LG E975 Optimus G back panel was covered with a glass base, but for some reason the E988 abandoned this. Along the entire perimeter of the smartphone there is a gray plastic insert that visually divides the smartphone into two parts. When approaching the upper and lower ends, the insert expands and already occupies almost the entire visible area.

I have absolutely no complaints about the build quality. Everything is assembled and manufactured to a very high level. Naturally, there are no extraneous sounds of twisting or breaking. The back cover does not press through if you press on it. The control buttons do not play. The workmanship is excellent, which actually befits the level of a top-end smartphone.

Functional connectors.

Now let's move on to looking at the controls.

1. At the top end there is a 3.5mm headphone jack, an infrared transmitter, and a microphone for noise suppression.

2. On the right side there is a power button, and at the bottom there is a recess for removing back cover.

3. At the bottom end there is a microUSB connector and the main microphone.

4. On the left side there is a volume key and function button(I’ll tell you about it below in the text).

5. On the front side of the smartphone: main speaker, front camera, proximity sensor, automatic brightness control sensor, LG logo. Below the screen there is a physical home button and two touch control buttons. context menu" and "back".

6. On the back you can see: the main camera, flash, second speaker and the "LG" logo. There is a built-in NFC chip under the cover.

As you can see, the manufacturer involved all sides of the smartphone in the design.

Functional elements.

The smartphone operates under Android control OS 4.1.2.

According to rumors, it seems like the smartphone will be updated to 4.3 for sure, but apparently we can’t count on further updates. In general, considering LG’s slowness in releasing new firmware, version 4.3 will be quite good. The main menu is built according to the 5x6 formula; there are two desktops with installed applications and eight desktops with widgets.

Navigation and surfing on the smartphone is very smooth and fast, the sensor response is simply fantastic, you get the feeling that you just raised your finger to the screen and the reaction has already happened. In general, excellent speed, no hints of lags or brakes.

Optimus UI 3.0. This is LG's own shell. The shell itself is very advanced and functional; almost all aspects of the smartphone have been changed.

Here are some points worth mentioning:

1. Smartphone unlocking has been completely redesigned. You can select various effects that will be present when you unlock your smartphone.

2. You can put different wallpapers on home screen and to the screen with the main menu. You can also change the size of the icons themselves.

3. You can choose one of four topics. Moreover, when the topic changes, it changes appearance widgets and icons.

4. Auto screen rotation now works on the main screen and in the application menu.

5. The main color in the menu is now white with multi-colored labels. The activation buttons in the form of switches are very original. All functions in the smartphone have also been redrawn, starting from dialing, voice recorder, calendar, alarm clock, etc. Completely replaced standard wallpaper Wallpapers from LG have branded live wallpapers. Moreover, all the pictures are very well chosen and all look equally good on a smartphone screen.

6. The application menu is divided into three zones: “applications” themselves, “downloads” (all downloaded programs are displayed separately) and “widgets”.

7. Now incoming SMS are immediately displayed on the screen as a pop-up window.

8. Everything third party applications You can delete it in the firmware.

9. When playing a video file, you can zoom in on the picture.

Here are just a few moments that are in this shell.

Backlit front keys. Backlight touch buttons You can turn it off and set the duration of the backlight itself.

LED backlighting of the Home screen button. Extensive mechanical button settings. You can select the brightness and set a specific operating algorithm. A kind of indicator of various events.

Quick button. On the right side at the top there is a mechanical button to which you can assign any application from your smartphone (quick launch). But it’s most convenient to use it as a camera button (the camera cannot be activated when the smartphone is locked, activation only when the smartphone is active and you can use the button as a shutter release) or a remote control activation button.

Quick Remote. The smartphone has a built-in infrared transmitter. Actually the main purpose is the remote control.

Screen. The LG Optimus G Pro has a very high-quality screen with an IPS matrix. The company gave this screen a rather loud name “True HD IPS+”. Diagonal 5.5 inches, Full HD resolution, 1920×1080 pixels. Pixel density per inch 401ppi. Up to 10 touches are supported simultaneously.

There is automatic brightness adjustment. Those who like to look at individual pixels on the screen can immediately pass by.

There is a protective coating Corning Gorilla Glass 2. The viewing angles are maximum, the picture can be seen from any position.

There is also good contrast and a large margin of brightness. The color reproduction can be said to be ideal; I personally did not notice any obvious color distortions. In the sun, the screen performed very well; the image is visible even in direct sunlight.

On this type The screen can be operated comfortably with gloves, and the screen is also sensitive to the touch of any metal objects. As a result, we have one of the best screens on the market that has virtually no obvious flaws that could be noticed with the naked eye.

Camera. The main camera has a resolution of 13 megapixels, the maximum image size is 4160x3120 pixels. Naturally there is autofocus. IN this smartphone A Sony matrix with LED flash is used. The maximum video recording quality is FullHD at 30 frames per second. By default, the camera is set to "smart-auto mode". In principle, in automatic mode the camera copes quite well with determining different modes filming. The speed of the camera itself is very high, pictures are taken and saved almost instantly. The following points can be highlighted from the main settings: image resolution, normal shooting, HDR, panorama, VR panorama (volumetric panoramic image), continuous shooting, Beautiful face, dual camera(you can shoot video and take photos from two cameras at the same time), Cheese Shutter option (you can take a photo using your voice), brightness adjustment, focus (auto, manual, face tracking), scene programs (normal, portrait, landscape, sports, sunset, night), ISO (auto, 800, 400, 200, 100), white balance (auto, incandescent, sunny, fluorescent, cloudy), color effects (none, black and white, sepia, negative), timer (off ., 3, 5, 10 sec.), geotagging, shutter sound (can be disabled), selection of storage location (memory card or device memory). The quality of the pictures themselves was also pleasing. Good frame sharpness, reliable color reproduction. Naturally, in low light conditions there is a little noise in the frame. The front camera has a resolution of 2.1 megapixels, there is no autofocus, but video recording in FullHD is also possible. The settings are mostly similar to the main camera, but you can’t take a picture using your voice. On Skype, this camera showed itself with best side, output image good quality judging by the screen size, of course. As a result, we get a fairly high-quality camera that may well serve as an inexpensive point-and-shoot camera.

Video example:

In progress, testing.

CPU. 4 CPU cores based on the new "Krait 300" architecture. Frequency up to 1.9 GHz. Integrated video processor - Adreno 320. New generation DSP - Hexagon V5. IZat technology responsible for positioning functions. IZat is a combination of satellite navigation systems - GPS and GLONASS - with positioning using Wi-Fi points, operator base stations cellular communications, as well as the use of data from the Internet. Those. chip manufacturing process – 28nm “HPm” ("High Performance for mobile"). Dual-channel memory controller (2 x 32 bit) LP-DDR3 800 MHz, thanks to which throughput The memory bus reaches a record 12.8 Gbit/s. Built-in 4G LTE 3rd generation module, capable of speeds up to 150Mbps (Category 4). All common standards and frequencies are supported, making the communication module universal. DSP ability to process shooting and playback in UltraHD format (4 x 1080p). Supports audio in DTS-HD and Dolby Digital Plus formats.

Of course, this combination is not the most productive at the end of 2013. The most, so to speak, at the moment is the Snapdragon 800 and Adreno 330, at least at Android devices. But do not forget that this smartphone went on sale around the world in April 2013, and in our country sales essentially began only in early autumn. There was such a big delay. So, this processor can be considered modern and highly productive. All tested modern 3D games, as they say, “fly” with this combination. In all games, the graphics were set to maximum values and there were no lags or slowdowns anywhere. It’s safe to say that this processor will be relevant in terms of gaming for quite some time.

Memory. The total memory capacity in the smartphone is 16GB, after downloading 9.4GB remains. Random access memory 2GB, after downloading 1.1GB remains, which is pretty good. You cannot install applications on a memory card. Supports work with microSDXC memory cards.

Synthetic test charts:

Sound. The sound from the speakers is above average in volume. It’s impossible to distinguish the sound quality from the speakers somehow. There isn't enough volume and there's a feeling of lack of bass. The normal sound is unremarkable. For example, after you listen to the sound in Oppo Find 5 (which, by the way, I personally consider the standard for sound), you already begin to be biased towards everyone else in terms of sound. Since the kit did not include a native headset, I did not check the sound in the headphones; most likely the sound will depend on the specific headphones, and this will be a biased result.

Speech transmission. The smartphone has two microphones and one of them is responsible for noise reduction during a conversation. There were no problems with connection quality during testing. You can hear your interlocutor very well in both directions. Unfortunately, it was not possible to test the smartphone in LTE networks due to the banal lack of the required SIM card.

Wi-Fi, GPS. Wi-Fi operation module is high quality and stable. It is impossible to add anything special on this point. The smartphone uses two navigation standards: GPS and GLONASS; they operate simultaneously. Thanks to this, about 20 satellites are always available and this is so far the highest result of all the smartphones I have tested. Positioning is very accurate, a “cold” start takes only 1-3 minutes. Navigation did not cause any problems.

USB-HOST. This smartphone supports connection of various peripheral devices. Without any problems we managed to connect: USB flash drives, card reader, mouse, keyboard and joystick from PS3.

Playing video. Out of the box, the smartphone does an excellent job of playing various video file formats, so installing a third-party player is not required.

Battery life.

A removable 3140 mAh battery is used. This is a pretty good indicator of capacity, but do not forget that we have a fairly powerful processor and a large IPS screen that really likes to consume a lot of energy.

1. Work in "just phone" mode - only calls. This is not the total talk time, but a certain number of calls during the specified period - 35 hours.

2. Work in mixed mode: calls, Internet, video, games - 11 hours.

3. Play MP3 file in headphones, maximum volume - 45 hours.

4. Video playback, sound and screen brightness to maximum - 5 hours and 30 minutes.

5. Work in 3D applications (games), sound at maximum, screen brightness 75% - 5 hours

As you can see, a miracle did not happen and the operating time is generally the same as on all smartphones that use a battery of similar capacity.

Conclusions.

Many in our country are accustomed to calling the LG company nothing more than “skis,” because their smartphones don’t work. So I want to say that they drive and drive very quickly and not bad. Finally, the company has created a very balanced and attractive smartphone, which is not a shame to put on a par with the flagships of other companies. Moreover, it outperforms some models in all respects. I compared two smartphones, naturally this is the LG E988 Optimus G Pro and Samsung Galaxy S4. I showed these smartphones to 20 people and asked them in one minute to choose the one they liked best, so 14 out of 20 people chose the LG E988 Optimus G Pro. This smartphone has almost no negative aspects and overall the model turned out to be very attractive and balanced.
The current price in CSN stores in Vladivostok is 22,990 rubles. and in the store www.technopoint.ru it costs 18,990 rubles. I will start from the last price. Competitors: HTC One- 21.590 rub. - non-removable battery and no memory cards. Samsung Galaxy S4 - RUB 21,590 - the battery capacity is less, the screen quality is inferior. Sony XPERIA Z - 19,990 rub. - the processor, the battery, the screen are worse and cannot be compared at all. The advantages are the design, materials in the construction, water protection. ZTE Nubia Z5 - RUB 19,750 - worse battery and no support for memory cards. Huawei Ascend D2 - RUB 18,490 - of the minuses, this is still Huawei’s own unoptimized K3V2 processor and the lack of memory cards. As you can see, the LG E988 Optimus G Pro actually has no serious competitors. In the Novosibirsk CSN network the price is even lower and amounts to 17,990 rubles.

PROS:

1. Very high quality screen.

2. Memory card support. Yes, yes, in light of recent trends this is a plus.

3. Good camera.

4. Versatile appearance.

5. Possibility to use as a remote control to control equipment.

6. High-quality assembly.

7. Made in South Korea.

8. Availability of USB-HOST.

9. Separate physical programmable button.

10. LTE for the future.

11. Advanced shell from LG.

MINUSES:

1. A meager package for “yesterday’s” flagship.

2. Slippery body.

3. I want the sound from the speakers to be a little louder and more “interesting.”

That's all. Thank you to everyone who took the time to read this review, see you next time!

I express my gratitude to LG and the CSN company!

Accelerometer(or G-sensor) - sensor of the device’s position in space. As a main function, the accelerometer is used to automatically change the orientation of the image on the display (vertical or horizontal). Also, the G-sensor is used as a pedometer; it can control various functions of the device by turning or shaking.
Gyroscope- a sensor that measures rotation angles relative to a fixed coordinate system. Capable of measuring rotation angles in several planes simultaneously. A gyroscope together with an accelerometer allows you to accurately determine the position of the device in space. Devices that use only accelerometers have lower measurement accuracy, especially when moving quickly. Also, the capabilities of the gyroscope can be used in modern games for mobile devices.
Light sensor- a sensor that sets the optimal brightness and contrast values for a given light level. The presence of a sensor allows you to increase the operating time of the device from battery.
Proximity sensor- a sensor that detects when the device is close to your face during a call, turns off the backlight and locks the screen, preventing accidental clicks. The presence of a sensor allows you to increase the battery life of the device.
Geomagnetic sensor- a sensor for determining the direction of the world in which the device is directed. Tracks the orientation of the device in space relative to the magnetic poles of the Earth. The information received from the sensor is used in mapping programs for terrain orientation.
Sensor atmospheric pressure - sensor for precise measurement of atmospheric pressure. It is part of the GPS system, allows you to determine altitude above sea level and speed up location determination.
Touch ID- fingerprint identification sensor.

Approximations

Satellite navigation:

GPS(Global Positioning System) is a satellite navigation system that provides measurements of distance, time, speed and determines the location of objects anywhere on Earth. The system is developed, implemented and operated by the US Department of Defense. The basic principle of using the system is to determine location by measuring distances to an object from points with known coordinates - satellites. The distance is calculated by the delay time of signal propagation from sending it by the satellite to receiving it by the antenna of the GPS receiver.
GLONASS(Global Navigation Satellite System) - Soviet and Russian satellite navigation system, developed by order of the USSR Ministry of Defense. The measurement principle is similar to the American GPS navigation system. GLONASS is designed for operational navigation and timing support for land, sea, air and space-based users. The main difference from the GPS system is that GLONASS satellites in their orbital motion do not have resonance (synchrony) with the rotation of the Earth, which provides them with greater stability.

Simplified version flagship smartphone turned out to be too simplistic

This spring we published one of best smartphones(and before the advent of LG G2, perhaps the best) of model range LG company. Optimus G Pro was at that time one of the brightest and most noticeable representatives of the tablet class (smartphones with a very large screen diagonal) and could compete even with the Samsung Galaxy Note itself, which gave rise to the fashion for such devices. True, at that time the third representative of the Note line had not yet been released - now it is difficult for the LG tablet phone to keep up with the Galaxy Note 3, the gap is large in many aspects. However, LG Optimus G Pro is still considered one of the most noticeable and desirable devices among top-end tablet phones, along with Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Sony Xperia Z Ultra.

Pictured: LG G Pro Lite Dual compared to Samsung Galaxy Note 3

But there is another life, devoid of the glitter of glamor and flashes of spotlights. Now almost every one of these “celestials” has a cheaper analogue - a smartphone that is much less advanced in terms of hardware (and above all in terms of screen quality), but has a comparable huge size. Such budget “shovel phones” differ from their top-end compatriots, first of all, in less powerful hardware, and their screens with a very large diagonal have a resolution far from Full HD. Accordingly, the user, as usual, has to choose: more expensive and better quality - or cheaper, but simpler. We have already tested enough such simplified tablets: Samsung has the Mega with screens of 5.8 and 6.3 inches, Huawei has the Ascend Mate (6.1 inches), Sony is now releasing the Xperia C (a review of this model is being prepared for release), and today we will look at the same cheaper analogue of the top LG tablet phone called G Pro Lite Dual.

Unfortunately, looking ahead, it’s worth noting that LG’s simplified tablet model turned out to be too “simplified.” If you look at the competitors, it turns out that some have a higher screen resolution, others have more RAM, still others are sure to have something better, and none of them have an SoC that is so ancient and frankly weak by today’s standards. The LG G Pro Lite Dual is based on the MediaTek MT6577 platform with two 1 GHz cores, and it is completely out of place in such a device. It turns out that, based on all the characteristics, the Korean model looks the most backward, but at the same time costs the same or comparable money as most of its competitors. So this review will be more of an academic purpose than a practical one: it is very difficult to recommend a model for purchase that costs the same as its competitors, but is worse in terms of all its characteristics. However, for true fans trademark There will always be some arguments in defense, we will try to look for them too.

Appearance and ease of use

Externally, the smartphone is no different from its Korean counterparts: a lot of gloss, a lot of shine, a smooth lacquered body streamlined on all sides has a typically “Asian” appearance. The smartphone is quite heavy even for its large dimensions, and the fact that almost all “shovel phones” are still overweight is not an excuse: it is still necessary to strive for the best.

The most important drawback of the appearance of the LG G Pro Lite Dual smartphone is its gloss. Thanks to the smooth lacquered finish that the Asian market has never learned to get rid of, the smartphone not only always looks sloppy due to palm oil and dust, but it is also very slippery to hold. With such a large mass and such a slippery surface, the smartphone is constantly in danger, trying to slip out of your hands.

The metallic side bezel also does not contribute to a reliable hold in the hand: along the entire side perimeter there is a shiny element made to look like metal. The material is smooth and also extremely slippery - there is simply nothing for your fingers to catch on in the LG G Pro Lite Dual case.

The form factor of the LG G Pro Lite Dual smartphone is candy bar; The glossy lacquered plastic back cover here is removable. The lid is traditionally attached to several plastic latches and can be removed quite easily - there are no problems with this; there is a corresponding ledge on the side for hooking with a fingernail. In general, at this point I would like to note that despite all this easily soiled gloss and abundance of shiny elements, so beloved by Asians, the hand of a first-rate company is still felt in the smartphone. LG is now one of the top three sales leaders in the global smartphone market, the brand is becoming more and more popular, and the LG G Pro Lite Dual deservedly bears the logo of this company. The materials are of good quality, the quality of workmanship is excellent, all the parts fit perfectly together, nothing creaks, does not move, there are no cracks to be found, the build quality is beyond fault. And the gloss here is not simple: under the layer of varnish, typical for LG, a certain texture is visible, which gives the coating a noble and expensive look.

If you remove the back cover, it reveals an internal frame with several slots conveniently placed on it. Both the memory card and both SIM cards can be inserted and removed from their slots without having to remove the battery. Yes, the battery here is also removable, very wide in size, and has a fair amount of weight. It is because of this that the smartphone weighs a fair amount, but the considerable battery capacity of 3140 mAh, in principle, justifies this.

However, despite the possibility of mechanically replacing SIM cards in their slots without the need to remove the battery, their hot replacement is not supported here - the smartphone still needs to be rebooted manually. There is no difference in the order in which the SIM cards will be installed in their slots - both slots are equivalent, and there is a special button on the front panel for quickly changing the priority card. The cards used here are of the obsolete Mini-SIM format, so some will have to worry about purchasing the appropriate adapters. By the way, the top slot is located so well and organized so easily that it stood the test perfectly, keeping the Nano-SIM removed from the iPhone in its contacts for several days without any adapters at all. It’s better not to experiment with the bottom slot: it will be impossible to remove a card of the “wrong” format from there.

There is nothing remarkable on the outer rear surface of the device, except for the camera window and the LED flash; even the speaker grilles here are not placed back, but to the side - cut into the bottom end. The speakers here are covered with beautiful symmetrical metallic grilles - it looks very stylish.

Here, between the speaker grilles, there is a Micro-USB connector and a conversational microphone. Micro-USB, unfortunately, does not support connection modes for external devices, such as a flash drive or keyboard and mouse. It's a pity: with such a large screen size they could be useful.

The top end also contains more different elements than usual. In addition to the traditional audio output for headphones (3.5 mm) and a second microphone for noise reduction, you can find a small infrared port here. The IR port serves primarily for the physical implementation of a program that emulates a remote control.

The “remote” is universal; a lot of different configurations are already stored in its memory, so it easily coped with controlling a ten-year-old Philips TV, not to mention more modern solutions. The program is convenient, works flawlessly, we have already seen similar solutions before in Samsung smartphones, and from LG itself.

There is also a hole cut in the top end for installing a stylus - the included electronic pen is an integral part of the image this time and has found its place inside the smartphone body. The pen is metal, slippery, absolutely round in cross-section, and is not equipped with any additional buttons. This is not at all an analogue of the high-tech stylus of the Samsung Galaxy Note with its spring-loaded tip, side key and implementation of interaction with the screen using Wacom technologies. The implementation of working with the pen itself, and the corresponding applications focused on working with the stylus, do not reach it in terms of functionality.

There are also more buttons here, both mechanical and touch, than usual. Firstly, on one of the side faces (left) there is additional key Quick Button for quick launch any user-defined application. This expansion of functionality never hurts, and I’m glad that this button is often found in LG smartphones. All side buttons have a very soft and pliable action, but practically do not stick out from the body, although it is not difficult to feel them blindly.

Secondly, on the front panel under the screen there are not three, as usual, but four buttons, the last of which is responsible for instantly reassigning the SIM card as a priority. The problem is that this button, like the others, is not backlit (we already encountered this problem in the LG Optimus L7 II Dual smartphone).

And just like there, here it’s impossible to decide on the buttons in the twilight, so you have to poke blindly - but that’s not the worst thing. What's worse is that by accidentally pressing this button in the dark (and without noticing it), you could inadvertently make a call to someone using a different SIM card than you intended, and possibly reveal your other number to the person you were keeping it from. secret. Obviously, realizing the absurdity of this situation, the developers, instead of simply providing backlighting to the buttons, took a different route. They introduced an item in the settings in which you can strictly set calls to certain numbers only from certain SIM cards, and nothing else.

Otherwise, the front panel is nothing more remarkable. The entire front surface is covered with protective glass, with a slot cut out for the grille. conversational dynamics, and nearby you can see little eyes front camera and touch sensors. It’s worth noting right away that by tapping on the glass here you can both wake up a sleeping smartphone and put it back to sleep. This proprietary LG feature, which first appeared in the G2 model, is still unique, and no one else has it. Nokia once came up with the idea of waking up the device by tapping on the screen, but not putting it back to sleep.

About colors: the LG G Pro Lite Dual model, like most LG smartphones, does not shine with a variety of colors. There are only two options on sale: black and white. In Korean devices, unlike others, the front panel is painted the same tone as the back cover, so here the white device has a white front panel under the glass too.

Screen

The LG G Pro Lite Dual smartphone is equipped with an IPS touch matrix measuring 68x121 mm, a diagonal of 139 mm (5.5 inches) with a resolution of 960x540 pixels. The pixel density per inch here is only 200 ppi, which is frankly low for modern screens, and you won’t find this in any of the competing solutions. Accordingly, the picture turns out to be quite loose, the pixels are visible to the naked eye, the edges of small details and fonts do not always look smooth.

The thickness of the side frames from the edge of the screen to the edge of the body is about 4 mm. The screen is covered with scratch-resistant protective glass. The display brightness can be adjusted manually, but you cannot enable automatic adjustment yourself - there is simply no corresponding checkbox here. Multi-touch technology allows you to process up to 10 simultaneous touches. The smartphone also has a proximity sensor that blocks the screen when you bring the smartphone to your ear.

Detailed examination using measuring instruments conducted by the editor of the “Monitors” and “Projectors and TV” sections Alexey Kudryavtsev. Here is his expert opinion on the screen of the sample under study.

The front surface of the screen is made in the form of a glass plate with a mirror-smooth surface that is scratch-resistant. Judging by the reflection of objects, there is an effective anti-glare filter, which in terms of brightness reduction is slightly worse than that of the Google Nexus 7 2013 (we will compare it with it below). The reflection in the screen triples, which suggests the presence of an air gap between the surface of the matrix and the outer glass. On the outer surface of the screen there is a special oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating (very effective, no worse than that of the Nexus 7), so fingerprints are removed much easier and appear at a lower speed than in the case of regular glass.

With manual brightness control, its maximum value was about 390 cd/m², and the minimum was 46 cd/m². The maximum value is not very high, but given the good anti-glare properties, in bright daylight the image on the screen should be quite clearly visible. In complete darkness, the brightness can be reduced to a comfortable level. There is no automatic brightness adjustment based on the light sensor. At any brightness level, there is virtually no backlight modulation, so any screen flickering cannot be visually detected.

This smartphone has an IPS matrix. The micrograph shows a typical IPS subpixel structure:

The screen has good viewing angles without inverting shades and without significant color shifts even with large (reasonable) viewing deviations from perpendicular to the screen. When deviated diagonally, the black field is greatly brightened, but remains almost neutral gray. When viewed perpendicularly, the uniformity of the black field is good. The contrast in the center of the screen is high - about 1140:1. The response time for the black-white-black transition is 24 ms (12 ms on + 12 ms off). The transition between halftones of gray 25% and 75% (based on the numerical value of the color) and back takes a total of 37 ms. A gamma curve constructed using 32 points did not reveal any blockage in either highlights or shadows, and the index of the approximating power function was 2.04, which is less than the standard value of 2.2. In this case, the real gamma curve strongly deviates from the power-law dependence and has a pronounced S-shaped character, which increases the visible contrast of the image:

Color gamut is almost equal to sRGB:

The spectra show that the matrix’s light filters mix the components with each other to a moderate extent - as a result, visually the colors have a natural saturation.

The balance of shades on the gray scale is good, since the color temperature is not much higher than the standard 6500 K and the deviation from the blackbody spectrum (delta E) is less than 10, which is considered an acceptable indicator for a consumer device. At the same time, the variation in delta E and color temperature is small, which also has a positive effect on the visual perception of color balance. (Dark areas of the gray scale can be ignored, since color balance there is not very important, and the error in measuring color characteristics at low brightness is large.)

The brightness adjustment range of this screen is quite wide, and the anti-glare filter is very effective, which allows you to comfortably use the smartphone both on a clear day outside and in complete darkness. Unfortunately, there is no automatic brightness adjustment, which places additional responsibilities on the user and does not help save battery power. The advantages of the screen include an effective oleophobic coating, uniform black field and good color rendition. Unfortunately, the stability of black to gaze deviation from perpendicular to the screen surface is low. As a result we have inexpensive option screen on IPS matrix, in which they tried to reduce costs without very much compromising quality.

Sound

In terms of sound, the smartphone is average. The speakers produce fairly clear and very loud sound, but low frequencies deprived. The voice of a familiar interlocutor, timbre and intonation remain recognizable, the conversation is quite comfortable. The sound output grilles here are cut into the bottom end, so that nothing prevents the sound from escaping. In the settings, you can programmatically enhance some audio effects, but this can only be done when you connect headphones. The smartphone comes pre-installed with a standard voice recorder, which is used only for creating audio notes - recording regular means telephone conversations He can't do it on the line. There is also an FM radio in the smartphone; it is possible to record broadcast programs.

Camera

LG G Pro Lite Dual comes standard with two digital camera modules. The front camera here has a 1.3 megapixel sensor, takes photos with a maximum resolution of 1280x720, and can shoot video at a maximum resolution of 720p.

The main rear camera is equipped with an 8-megapixel module with a BSI sensor. By default, the camera shoots in normal mode, in which the resolution is set to 6 megapixels for shooting in a widescreen aspect ratio. You should switch to the maximum resolution (8 megapixels) manually, then the pictures will be 3264x2448 in size. It is possible to use other shooting modes besides the usual one: panorama, continuous, beautiful face, sports, night. The settings menu is extremely conveniently placed across the entire screen, clearly and brightly drawn, all items are easy and intuitive to find - the menu implementation is one of the best on the market.

Examples of photographs with our comments are presented below.

In the foreground, details are poorly processed; in the distance, sharpness drops even more.

In this case, the camera did a good job in the central part of the frame, the edges are noticeably worse.

In the central part of the frame, sharpness is acceptable, but gradually deteriorates towards the edges.

There is a strong sharpening on the wires and colored noise on the asphalt.

The grass is well developed only in the center, but even there it merges in places.

With good lighting and a fairly short shutter speed (1/529 second), the camera can produce almost decent results, but uneven sharpness across the frame spoils everything.

With a very short shutter speed (1/1122 of a second), the result is even better: the house is well rendered, traces of sharpening are almost invisible, and the license plate of the nearest car is clearly visible.

There is slight noise in the shadows.

The text is blurred due to the fairly long shutter speed (1/25 second), but is nevertheless legible, although slightly damaged.

Nothing special about macro photography.

The camera has problems either with the perception of reality or with recording data in EXIF. A long shutter speed for it is even 1/100 of a second, although in the above photographs the camera never reached a photosensitivity value of at least ISO 200, trying to shoot around ISO 60. This is the reason for some blurring in most photographs. On the other hand, blur may be caused by the lack of any stabilization or the delay between pressing the shutter button and shooting.

Sharpness is relatively good only in the central part of the frame in the foreground and sometimes in the middle ground. The edges of the frame are poorly processed, and there are a lot of chaotic out-of-focus areas around the central part, which indicates the low quality of the optics.

Weak noise in the shadows indicates that the camera has a noise canceler, which does its job quite well. It fails to completely hide noise, but the result obtained is quite good.

As for shooting text, it should be done the old fashioned way in good lighting, if possible with a flash to avoid blur. In general, the camera occupies a rather low position among other smartphone cameras and is only suitable for undemanding documentary shooting.

The camera is very good at shooting video, does it without visible delays or artifacts in the image, and has several resolutions to choose from (up to a maximum of 720p). Examples of test videos are presented below (video: MPEG4 Video 1280×720 30.083 fps 8066 Kbps; audio: AAC 16 kHz mono 19 Kbps).

  • Video No. 1 (31.6 MB, 1280×720)
  • Video No. 2 (23.2 MB, 1280×720)
  • Video No. 3 (27.2 MB, 1280×720)

Telephone and communications

The smartphone works as standard in modern 2G GSM and 3G WCDMA networks; network support fourth generation(LTE) no. In general, the network capabilities of the smartphone today are minimal: the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band is not supported, and there is no support for NFC technology either. Can be arranged as standard wireless point via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth channels, there is Wi-Fi mode Direct. The navigation module supports GPS/A-GPS. There were no freezes or spontaneous reboots/shutdowns of the device during testing.

The screen is large, so drawing letters and numbers virtual keyboards quite comfortable to drive. In the settings, you can choose two types of home screens: normal and simplified. The simplified version will most likely be of interest to people who are little familiar with smartphones, as well as the elderly. A fairly convenient option: all the most necessary functions in the form of large-drawn icons are immediately displayed on the desktop.

The layout and location of the keys are standard: switching languages here is done by pressing a special button; there is a separate row of numbers. Since the screen, due to its dimensions, is not very convenient for one-handed operation, it is possible to move the keys to one of the edges of the screen for ease of reach with your fingers. You can make such a shift without even resorting to the menu: you just need to move the keyboard to one of the sides with a side swipe.

The smartphone supports 2 SIM cards. Apart from a special button for quickly changing the priority SIM card, the implementation of working with two SIM cards is generally standard for this platform. There is only one radio module, so there can only be one active conversation; the second card becomes unavailable at this moment. In the settings, you can choose a color theme for each card, icon design, prioritize, etc.

OS and software

LG G Pro Lite Dual currently runs on the Google Android software platform version 4.1.2. On top standard interface The OS company installed a graphical shell of its own production called Optimus UI version 3.0. The shell here is absolutely the same as most of the LG smartphones we have previously tested. The smartphone can be unlocked by touching anywhere on the screen, which is much more convenient than sliding a certain strip at the bottom, especially when operating with the fingers of one hand. The application menu consists of several cyclically scrolling screens, each of which is a 5x6 matrix of application icons. At the top above the matrix there is a button to display only downloaded applications, which is convenient. By pressing the “gear” you can proceed to arranging the icons on the screens. The notification panel is very informative, and besides, the top scrolling ribbon in it for quick access to particularly important settings can be edited to suit your needs. You can reboot the system or enable offline mode by long pressing the power key - a special menu with options appears. If you hold this key even longer, the phone will reboot automatically.

Many software developments familiar from other LG smartphones are also present here: QSlide - the ability to customize the size, degree of transparency and the number of simultaneously used program windows; guest mode - the ability to restrict access to certain applications; QuickMemo is a program for working with a stylus, mainly dedicated to note-taking and drawing; QuickTranslator - translator with the ability free installation one dictionary; QuickRemote is a virtual remote control linked to the built-in IR port. Also traditionally on site and our own program for Reserve copy and system recovery, package for working with office documents, application manager, task manager, file manager, as well as online entertainment services for selecting multimedia content, the ability to store your “stuff” in the LG cloud, and even remote support for the device by a service subscriber center.

Performance

The LG G Pro Lite Dual hardware platform is based on the MediaTek MT6577 single-chip system (SoC). CPU it has 2 Cortex-A9 cores operating at 1 GHz. It is assisted in processing graphics by the PowerVR SGX 531 video processor. The device has 1 GB of RAM, internal memory nominally 8 GB, and of this, about 4.7 GB of free space in reality, the rest is occupied by the system itself and pre-installed applications. The LG G Pro Lite Dual smartphone supports memory expansion using microSD cards (our 64 GB SanDisk Ultra MicroSD XC I test card was confidently recognized, this is shown in the screenshots). But the possibilities of connecting external devices to USB port here, we repeat, no.

To get an idea of the performance of the platform of the smartphone under test, we will conduct a standard set of tests.

All the results we obtained when testing the smartphone in the most latest versions popular benchmarks, we have summarized them in tables for convenience. The table usually adds several other devices from different segments, also tested on similar latest versions benchmarks (this is done only for a visual assessment of the obtained dry figures). Unfortunately, within the framework of one comparison it is impossible to present the results from different versions benchmarks, so many worthy and relevant models remain “behind the scenes” - due to the fact that at one time they passed their “obstacle courses” on previous versions test programs.

Based on the data obtained during testing, the LG G Pro Lite Dual system demonstrated very low performance by modern standards.

Test results in MobileXPRT, as well as the latest versions of AnTuTu 4.x and GeekBench 3

Results of testing the graphics subsystem in the Epic Citadel gaming test

As for benchmarks for assessing the speed of the javascript engine, you should always make allowance for the fact that their results significantly depend on the browser in which they are launched, so the comparison can only be truly correct on the same OS and browsers, and this is possible during testing not always.

Playing video

To test the omnivorous nature of video playback (including support for various codecs, containers and special features, such as subtitles), we used the most common formats, which make up the bulk of the content available on the Internet. Note that for mobile devices it is important to have support for hardware video decoding at the chip level, since it is most often impossible to process modern options using processor cores alone. Also, don't expect mobile device decoding everything, since the leadership in flexibility belongs to the PC, and no one is going to challenge it. All results are summarized in a single table.

Format Container, video, sound MX Video Player Standard video player
DVDRip AVI, XviD 720×400 2200 Kbps, MP3+AC3 plays normally plays normally
Web-DL SD AVI, XviD 720×400 1400 Kbps, MP3+AC3 plays normally plays normally
Web-DL HD MKV, H.264 1280×720 3000 Kbps, AC3 Hardware+
BDRip 720p MKV, H.264 1280×720 4000 Kbps, AC3 plays fine with decoder Hardware+ The video plays fine, but there is no sound¹
BDRip 1080p MKV, H.264 1920×1080 8000 Kbps, AC3 plays fine with decoder Hardware+ The video plays fine, but there is no sound¹

¹ MX Video Player only played sound after switching to software decoding or Hardware+; The standard player does not have this setting

We did not find an MHL interface or a separate video output in this smartphone, so we had to limit ourselves to testing the output of video files on the screen of the device itself. Using a set of test files with an arrow and a rectangle moving one division per frame (see Methodology for testing video playback and display devices. Version 1), we checked the quality of video output on the smartphone screen. Screenshots with a shutter speed of 1 s helped determine the nature of the output of frames of video files with various parameters: the frame rate varied (24, 25, 30, 50 and 60 fps) with a constant resolution of 1280 by 720 (720p) pixels - the screen resolution is even lower, therefore, there is no point in trying to watch 1080p files, etc. In the tests, we used the MX Player video player in the “Hardware” mode, the results are summarized in the table:

Note: If both the Uniformity and Dropout columns are rated green, this means that when watching movies, there will most likely be no or no amount of artifacts caused by frame spacing or dropouts visible. will not affect viewing comfort. "Red" marks indicate possible problems related to the playback of the corresponding files.

If you limit yourself to the typical 24 frames per second for movies and TV series and a resolution up to 720p inclusive, then you can watch videos on this device. At frame rates above 30, skipping begins, and 1080p is reproduced only in software decoding mode, which has a depressing effect on output quality and battery life. Along the way, we noticed a strange effect: sometimes the image of our test files in some places crumbled into squares. When playing video files with a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels (720p), the image of the video file itself is practically inscribed within the boundaries of the screen - only a couple of pixels extend beyond the display area. The brightness range displayed on the screen slightly does not correspond to the standard range (that is, the range 16-235): in the shadows all gradations of shades are distinguished, but in the highlights a couple of shades are indistinguishable in brightness from white.

Battery life

The capacity of the lithium-ion battery installed in the LG G Pro Lite Dual is significant even by modern standards - 3140 mAh. Accordingly, the results of testing the duration battery life The devices turned out to be quite good in the most common user scenarios.

Battery capacity Reading mode Video mode 3D Game Mode
LG G Pro Lite Dual 3140 mAh 14:15 8 hours 40 minutes 6 hours 50 minutes
Sony Xperia C 2390 mAh 18:05 12:30 pm 8:00 am
Highscreen Alpha GTX 3000 mAh 14:15 11:05 am 6 hours 50 minutes
Huawei Ascend Mate 4050 mAh 18:05 11:35 am 5:00 a.m.
Alcatel OT Idol X 2000 mAh 10:00 am 6 hours 40 minutes 4:00 am
Oppo Mirror R819 2000 mAh 10:20 am 8 a.m. 20 p.m. 5:00 a.m.

Continuous reading in the FBReader program (with a standard, light theme) at a minimum comfortable brightness level (brightness was set to 100 cd/m²) lasted until the battery was completely discharged for more than 14 hours, and when continuously watching videos from YouTube in high quality (HQ) with the same brightness level through home network The Wi-Fi device lasted about 8.5 hours. In 3D gaming mode, the smartphone battery lasted almost 7 hours.

Bottom line

Currently, the official price of LG G Pro Lite Dual is set in our market at around 12.5 thousand rubles. For the same money you can buy a competing model from an equally sound brand - Sony Xperia C with a more powerful quad-core platform. If you don’t pay attention to brands, now for the same amount you can buy devices that are much more advanced in all technical characteristics, for example, the flagship five-inch Alcatel OT Idol X or Fly Luminor IQ453 that we recently tested. In them, for the same 12 thousand rubles, the user will receive not only more powerful and productive SoCs, but also much higher quality screens with Full HD resolution.

pros:

  • Dual SIM support
  • memory card support
  • removable battery
  • good battery life
  • large screen diagonal

Minuses:

  • easily soiled glossy case
  • poor performance
  • low display resolution
  • high price

Design and ergonomics

Looking at a smartphone from the front, you can most likely identify the manufacturer, even if you don’t look at the logo under the earpiece. Brand features contribute to recognition: a black edging around the display, the location of the earpiece and the presence of a separate key for changing the priority of SIM cards.

Find out who the manufacturer is protective glass, does not seem possible. LG is modestly silent about this, and on the Corning website they stopped updating the list of devices using their glass a long time ago. But what can be said for sure is that the surface of the glass is coated with an oleophobic layer, which helps prevent fingerprints and improves their sliding. Located at the top edge metal grid speaker, to the right of it is the proximity sensor and camera. Under the speaker you can see the manufacturer’s logo, and under the display, from left to right, there are touch keys: “Back”, “Home”, “Menu” and “Change SIM priority”. The keys are not backlit, so working with the smartphone in the dark is problematic; you can only hit the right key at random.

The frame surrounding the front side does not protrude above the glass. Its front part is stylized as metal, while the sides are painted white with pearlescent inclusions. Looks attractive. Surely such a decision will be made minor abrasions less noticeable. On the other hand, if we draw a parallel with the LG Optimus G, any serious contact with a hard object will leave a noticeable dent on the frame.

The back and front sides are separated by a silver insert of different widths. On the sides it turns into a thin strip, while on the ends it occupies about half of the entire area. It is on the silver insert that there are holes for a headphone jack, a microphone and an IR transmitter (upper end), Micro-USB, a microphone and two speakers (lower end). In addition to the connectors and holes on the top end, on the right side, there is a stylus; when you remove it, the screen backlight turns on. Unlike the LG Optimus G and LG G2, the G Pro Lite Dual has two speakers. We'll talk about their quality later.

On the sides of the case there are four mechanical keys and a recess for removing the back cover. Three of the keys are installed on the left side, under the silver strip. These are Quick Button keys (you can assign it to launch any of the installed applications) and double volume buttons. The keys do not work in sleep mode. The fourth key, power/lock, is installed on the opposite side. Its location is optimal, not too high and not in the center, not to mention the fact that it could be on the top end, like in HTC smartphones. All the keys practically do not protrude above the surface of the case, which, however, does not prevent you from finding them blindly, due to the moderately sharp edges. The key travel is short, with a noticeable click when activated.

The back of the case received a textured pattern. Fingerprints are only visible from a certain angle. Surely in a black case they will be more noticeable.

In addition to the textured pattern, this part of the body attracts attention with the presence of a flash, camera lens and logo. Under the cover there is a 3140 mAh battery (like in the LG Optimus G Pro) and three slots: for SIM cards and a memory card. To access any of them, you don't need to remove the battery, so you can change the SIM or memory card on the fly.

The build quality is good, squeaks appear only with strong squeezing, otherwise the LG G Pro Lite Dual is excellent, including the location of the controls. The picture is slightly spoiled by the lack of backlighting of the keys and the manufacturer’s incomprehensible savings on the light sensor.

Operating system and shell

The main advantage of the smartphone over a huge number of branded “Chinese” is the proprietary Optimus UI 3.0 shell. Here the smartphone really stands one step above its classmates. The operating system used is the no longer current Android 4.1. Considering LG's reluctance to update firmware in its products, there is no need to wait for Android 4.2, not to mention more recent versions. Despite this, the majority of users do not need this, the interface works smoothly, and the control panel is customizable.

Since this is not the first time we have come across the Optimus UI 3.0 shell, we traditionally invite readers to familiarize themselves with its features in the review and, where we talked in detail about the interface of LG smartphones. Here we list only the differences.

In view of the larger display, five shortcuts are placed on the lock screen for quickly launching applications; an additional widget has appeared indicating the time and weather, but the animation when unlocking has been removed. Like the LG Optimus G Pro, the smartphone uses its own keyboard on which there is no room for the “.” And ",". Their place is taken by the letters “Y” and “X”. In view of this, typing text using the Cyrillic layout is extremely inconvenient.

Among the applications and features of the LG G Pro Lite Dual, we highlight the following:

— « Simple desktop“- a mode of operation of the smartphone in which large dialing keys, a weather widget and eight shortcuts for quick access to selected applications are displayed on the main and only window of the desktop. In this mode, the font is made as large as possible, which will be useful for people with poor vision.

- function " Knock Knock» – exit from sleep mode by double tapping on the screen. Using a similar gesture when the screen is on causes it to fade;

Quick Button(quick access key, on the left side of the case) – a key that can be used to launch any of the applications available on the smartphone. Works only when the screen is unlocked;

QuickTranslator– an online text translator that uses a camera as a scanner. The test can be translated either in small phrases or entire paragraphs. As a bonus, the manufacturer offers to download one dictionary for free and use it without access to the Internet. The application recognizes 44 languages and can translate them into 64 languages;

Safety Care– emergency application. When dialing 911, the smartphone automatically sends a text message to the previously specified number. If the device is not in use certain time(set in the settings), a corresponding text message is sent to the programmed number. The third function of the application is to send GPS coordinates upon request;

— « Guest mode» – an application that provides access to a specified category of programs. Can be used for cases when the smartphone owner wants to block access to some applications, including the ability to make calls and send messages;

QSlide applications– a set of a small number of programs that can be launched on top of other windows. A total of three programs can be launched: the main one and two QSlides.

The principle of operation of two SIM cards is similar to other Android smartphones. In standby mode, both SIMs are available, but when talking on one of them, the second one is out of reach. Another advantage Dual SIM smartphones LG in the ease of working with SIM cards. To indicate from which card you need to make a call or send a message, just press a special key. In addition, the user can assign a default SIM with which this or that action will be performed; in particular, the smartphone recommends which SIM is best to call a particular subscriber.

Hardware platform

The smartphone is based on a hardware platform MediaTek MT6577 is a system-on-a-chip manufactured using a 40nm process technology and includes two 1 GHz Cortex-A9 processor cores, a PowerVR SGX531 graphics accelerator and 1 GB of RAM. The built-in memory is 8 GB, about half of which is available when connected to a PC. Similar SoCs could be found in last year’s smartphones - this is another puzzling saving, at least because current MediaTek solutions are manufactured using a 28-nm process technology and have a much better energy efficiency/performance ratio. Taking into account huge battery this could increase the autonomy of the LG G Pro Lite Dual by 25-30%, making it an excellent alternative to the long-lasting Lenovo Ideaphone P780.

In terms of performance, the LG G Pro Lite Dual shows poor results, due to the number of cores and an outdated graphics accelerator. The screen resolution, 960x540 pixels, somewhat softens the situation. If the SoC had to process an image at 1280x720 pixels, it would definitely lead to a drop in performance and animation smoothness. As a result, on the one hand, demanding users may find the capabilities of the MT6577 insufficient, but for those who do not plan to play heavy games and watch Full HD video, the main thing is that the smartphone does not slow down and works for a long time, the LG G Pro Lite Dual will be quite suitable enough.

The smartphone copes with HD video playback without difficulty, but to run Full HD video, you will have to use third-party applications. It's funny that even a relatively budget model can reproduce sound in an AC3 container. In our memory, this is the first MTK device that can reproduce AC3 sound using standard means, in this case a video player. Like its older brothers, being one of the QSlide applications, the video player can run in windowed mode. In addition, you can set your own brightness in the player settings. The sound volume in the headphones is sufficient for office spaces; when viewing in a noisy environment, it may not be enough. The sound volume in the speakers is high, the sound quality is high, but up to the standard for this parameter HTC smartphone One falls short. An advantage of LG's solution is the separation of speakers: one is used for playback high frequencies, and the second for low frequencies.

The satellite detection speed is not typical for the hardware platform used. In this parameter, the smartphone is similar to models based on Qualcomm processors. The data exchange speed on the Wi-Fi network is low, but it is quite sufficient for any possible tasks. The volume and sound quality of the earpiece are good.

The autonomy of the smartphone is worthy of praise. This is evidenced by the results, both during normal use and during testing. With half an hour of calls, two hours of music, half an hour of navigation, automatic synchronization of two Google accounts via Wi-Fi, the user can count on three days of work. In the Antutu Tester application, the smartphone scored 814 points.

In two-hour tests, the LG G Pro Lite Dual performed as follows.

When listening to music, automatic data synchronization and data transfer worked. The sound volume in the headphones is at 12 out of 15 possible levels. All music files in MP3 format, bitrate 320 Kbps. Navigation includes getting directions in the Google Navigation app. The brightness is set to 50%, all data communication modules are disabled. When playing a video, data transfer on the mobile network is active, the display brightness is set to 50%, the sound volume in the headphones is at level 12 out of a possible 15. The video file format is MKV, resolution 1024x432 pixels, frame rate 24. Playing videos from Youtube was accompanied not only by work in Wi-Fi networks, but also active data transfer. The display brightness is set to 50%, the sound volume in the headphones is set to 12 out of 15 possible levels.

Display

It’s not for nothing that the smartphone is called LG G Pro Lite Dual, because the screen diagonal is exactly the same as that (the Optimus prefix is no longer used in LG smartphones) – 5.5 inches, only the resolution is slightly different. However, so does the price. In terms of quality, the IPS matrix used was rated four by us. Brightness indicators range from 40 cd/m² to 350 cd/m², 50% corresponds to 92 cd/m². The minimum value, coupled with the matrix size, makes reading anything on a white background a very tedious process. Without installing additional software (for example, Lux Lite), which reduces the brightness of the backlight, it is simply impossible to read at night. On a sunny day, the display does not fade; information is clearly visible from almost any angle. Brightness can only be adjusted manually.

Checking the factory calibration of the IPS matrix revealed following features: slightly oversaturated colors; excessive contrast in dark areas of the image and insufficient contrast in light colors; as well as a white balance close to ideal. In general, as already mentioned, the display demonstrates quite decent performance. To be fair, we note that in everyday use the low resolution is practically not noticeable, at least from a distance of 40 centimeters, the gradation of fonts is barely noticeable, but if you just look at the screen with a higher PPI value, for the LG G Pro Lite Dual it is 200 PPI, as you immediately notice the lack of image sharpness in an LG smartphone. All this means only one thing, the display cannot be called bad, but if you compare it with models of one price range, the winnings will not be on LG's side.

Cameras

The LG G Pro Lite Dual has two cameras: 8 MP main and 1 MP front. Both are capable of recording video in a resolution of 1280x720 pixels. The main camera has autofocus and flash. Focusing by touching the screen is supported, as well as selecting ISO100-400, shooting by voice command and volume keys. The photo quality is average, closer to good, night shots are especially good. With video, the situation is comparable, with the only difference that as lighting deteriorates, the quality of the video also decreases, in particular, the frame rate drops. There are no complaints about the performance of the front camera; it is quite suitable for self-portraits and communication.

Results

A few months ago, LG introduced its most big smartphone– LG Optimus G Pro, it combines a modern hardware platform, current Android version(at that time), not a bad camera, Full HD screen and a capacious battery. The new LG G Pro Lite Dual also has a 5.5-inch screen, it also has relatively compact dimensions, it has an IR port, a battery of similar capacity, and a lot of software chips. Screen resolution, camera resolution, and hardware platform were sacrificed. Taking into account the difference in price, the user is offered to choose between the better equipped, but also more expensive LG Optimus G Pro, and the affordable, but less advanced LG G Pro Lite Dual. Well, as a bonus, the user receives loud and high-quality sound from stereo speakers, two slots for SIM cards and a stylus.
