In September 1983, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, BMW presented the top model from the Motorsport GmbH division - the M635 CSi. The car had an E24 body and a powerful high-speed 6-cylinder M88/3 engine with a volume of 3453 cm³ and a power of 286 hp, which allowed it to reach speeds of up to 255 km/h. The car accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds. Initially, this power unit was equipped with the M1 sports car. Of course, some changes had to be made to the engine, for example, we worked on the cooling and lubrication systems. All coolant paths, as well as the intake manifold, have been redesigned to position the engine at a 30-degree angle in the M635 CSi's engine bay, as opposed to the M1 where the powerplant was mounted vertically. The dry sump lubrication system used on the M1 was replaced by a conventional lubrication system, as found on the standard 635 CSi.

Externally, the M635 CSi model was practically no different from the standard 635 CSi. The front spoiler was slightly lower and the fender arches were slightly wider. The exterior was complemented with 16-inch collapsible BBS wheels and a slightly modified front skirt with a ribbed edge along the bottom. Also worth noting is the small aerodynamic wing on the driver's windshield wiper. A three-spoke sports steering wheel was standard, but Recaro sports seats were an option.

The front brakes received larger (300 mm x 30 mm) ventilated discs with 4-piston ATE calipers. The rear brakes were essentially the same as those on the standard 635 CSi, but the calipers had 2mm larger pistons. The suspension features 10mm lower and 15% stiffer springs, accompanied by specially developed Bilstein gas shock absorbers on all four corners. Also, more powerful stabilizers were installed on the car.

Since 1987, the M635 CSi began to be supplied to the USA, where it received the short designation M6. The engine in the M6 was equipped with a catalytic converter and had a reduced compression ratio, resulting in only 256 horsepower. Simultaneously with the start of deliveries to the American market, the M88 engine index was replaced by S38, highlighting with the letter S that the power unit belongs to the developments of the BMW Motorsport GmbH department.

In April 1989, the last M635 CSi (M6) of the first generation rolled off the assembly line.

After a long break, in 2005, the M6 returned. The second generation of the coupe emphasizes its entire appearance as belonging to the supercar tribe. The exterior shares similarities with the 6 Series. But the Emka is distinguished by enlarged air intakes, different side mirrors, a modified shape of the sidewalls of the front part of the body and dual muffler pipes at the rear. The supercar essence of the model is most clearly revealed by the huge 19-inch wheels that can accommodate ventilated brake discs diameter: 348 mm in front and 345 in rear. There are 4 unique exterior colors available specifically for the M6: Indianapolis Red, Sepang Bronze, Interlagos Blue and Silverstone.

The interior welcomes you with sports leather seats with lumbar support and electrical adjustments. The luxurious leather upholstery of the front panel is successfully combined with carbon inserts. The picture is completed by a dark suede-lined ceiling, as well as the unchanged iDrive with a large liquid crystal display and controller. The M logo is emblazoned on the lower spoke of the steering wheel, on the sills, on the tachometer dial, and even on the left footrest.

When designing the car, BMW specialists fought against excess weight. Body parts are made of lightweight materials. The doors are made of aluminum, the front fenders are made of plastic, and the roof is made of carbon fiber. Carbon is very expensive, but it is stronger and almost twice as light as aluminum. As a result, the M6 weighs just 1,710 kg.

The model was equipped with a powerful five-liter aluminum-silicon V10 engine developing 507 hp. at 7750 rpm. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. The speedometer measures up to 330 km/h and shows the true potential of the M6, although top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. It is noteworthy that this power unit is one of the most complex in its electronics. The MS S65 engine control unit consists of three 32-bit processors that coordinate more than 200 million operations per second, processing data from 50 sources.

There is a Power button on the center console of the BMW M6. “By default” the P400 setting is activated, in which the engine does not operate at full power, but using only 400 hp. If the Power button is pressed, the setting changes to P500 and all 507 hp are used.

The BMW M6 is equipped with a 7-speed Sequential Manual Gearbox (SMG) transmission of the third generation with the Drivelogic system, which offers a choice of 11 operating modes. Six of these options are for manual mode and five for automatic mode.

The suspension is based on the “standard” geometry of the BMW 645Ci. The double cross member of the front axle spring, as well as the rear axle, is made entirely of aluminum. Offered as standard electronic system adjusting the stiffness of shock absorbers (Electronic Damper Control). The driver of the BMW M6 has the opportunity to optionally select one of the suspension settings - Comfort, Normal or Sport.

In 2012, a year after the premiere of the new BMW 6-Series, the German automaker officially presented a “charged” version of the “six” with the M nameplate, both in the Coupe body (F12) and in the open Convertible modification (F13). Compared to the previous generation, it has grown significantly in size. The BMW Coupe F13 is 4898 mm long, 1899 mm wide and 1374 mm high, versus 4871 mm, 1855 mm and 1372 mm for its predecessor E63. The F12 convertible also became a little larger than its predecessor, but was slightly short in height: 4898 mm in length, 1899 mm in width, 1368 mm, height compared to 4871 mm, 1855 mm and 1377 mm.

The new car inherits a stylish and elegant, one might even say refined, design from the regular sixth series coupe. Except that aerodynamic parts were added to it, which gave the car’s appearance even more aggressiveness. The dynamic appearance is enhanced by dominant air intakes, a redesigned radiator grille bearing the M6 badge, new bumpers, flared wheel arches, air vents in the front fenders and four tailpipes of the sports exhaust system.

The base is equipped with 19-inch wheels shod with tires measuring 265/40R19 at the front and 295/35R19 at the rear. 20-inch wheels are also available as an option. With the latter, powerful carbon-ceramic brakes can also be ordered.

The new salon turned out to be quite luxurious. Almost all interior elements are dressed in genuine leather. Sports seats have been developed especially for the new M6. The interior is dominated by carbon and wood elements, replacing chrome and anodized elements. The interior also received a new steering wheel with paddle shifters, a redesigned instrument panel and door sills with backlighting. A heated steering wheel is available for an extra charge. standard system navigation and Bang & Olufsen audio system. In addition, the car can be equipped with a night vision system with pedestrian recognition, a lane monitoring system, a rear view camera, and an infotainment system with Internet access.

The car is powered by a 4.4-liter V8 twin-turbo engine, which is installed on the BMW M5 2012. The engine produces 560 hp. and 680 Nm of peak torque, which is transmitted to the wheels via a seven-speed M-DCT transmission and distributed between the wheels of the rear axle using an active differential.

The new BMW M6 Coupe accelerates from zero to hundreds in 4.2 seconds, while the convertible takes 0.1 seconds longer. Maximum speed Both are electronically limited to 250 km/h, but the M Driver's Package increases the top speed to 305 km/h.

Despite the fact that the old generation BMW M6 is equipped with a V10 engine, this car is 10% more powerful. BMW managed to make this car even more economical, the average consumption of the coupe in the combined cycle is 9.9 liters per hundred kilometers, and the consumption of the convertible is 10.3 liters per hundred. Not least of all, this was achieved thanks to work to reduce the weight of cars. For example, the roof of the 2012 BMW M6 coupe is made of carbon fiber, and the doors and hood are made of aluminum. However, the weight of the coupe still remains very impressive - 1,850 kg, and the convertible, equipped with a folding roof made of composites, is another 30 kg heavier.

The predecessor of the modern BMW M6 Coupe is the legendary BMW M635CSi E24, which debuted in 1983 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. This car, in turn, replaced the classic BMW 3.0CSi coupe. The car became the first business class coupe in the manufacturer’s line. The E24 featured many innovative developments, in particular an on-board monitoring system that monitors the level of brake fluid, water in the washer reservoir, engine oil and the health of the headlights. A 3.5-liter engine with a capacity of 286 horsepower was installed under the hood of the car, with which the car could accelerate to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds. The current generation of the BMW M6 Coupe debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in 2005. The car also received many modern technologies. The four-seat rear-wheel drive sports coupe in the E63 body differs from the standard 6 Series car in its exclusive design, the highest level comfort and a powerful power unit. The car is equipped with a 5-liter V10 engine producing 507 horsepower. The BMW M6 Coupe accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. The maximum speed of the car is limited to 250 km/h. It is noteworthy that the engine can be controlled by two programs, one of which limits the engine power to 400 horsepower.

The BMW M6 Cabrio convertible in the E64 body is based on the sports model in the BMW M6 Coupe body. This car debuted in 2005 at the Geneva Motor Show and in turn became the successor to the car, known since 1983. The coupe was distinguished by a huge amount of useful electronics, a powerful 507-horsepower engine and an original design. The convertible first appeared before the public in 2006. The vehicle is characterized by a 2+2 landing pattern and rich equipment. The car uses the same power unit as the coupe version - a 5-liter ten-cylinder engine with a capacity of 507 horsepower. The engine is equipped with a Double-VANOS continuously variable valve timing system and electronic throttle valves for all cylinders. The dynamics of the M6 Cabrio are inferior to the coupe version - the car accelerates to 100 km/h 0.2 seconds slower - in 4.8 seconds. The car also differs from the M6 Coupe in fundamentally new seats and, of course, a transparent soft roof with electric drive. In the fall of 2007, the convertible and coupe models underwent a slight restyling. Changes affected the front part of the body and sidewalls. The convertible's trunk capacity is 350 liters.
