Why Google YouTube doesn't work. Why YouTube doesn't work on an Android phone and what the user should do

Sometimes users encounter a problem when YouTube does not work on Android - the application does not start, it starts but crashes with an error, videos do not play or they do not load well, although the Internet speed is good and other similar things happen.

Such phenomena can appear both on the phone and on the tablet, when connected via WiFi or when working with regular mobile Internet. No matter how the problem with YouTube not working on Android manifests itself, the reasons for its occurrence are almost always the same.

Why is this happening

The most common cause of YouTube not working on Android is updates. If YouTube stopped working after the update occurred, then this is exactly the reason. In this case, most often no error appears, and the application simply crashes.

Although it is possible that there may be some kind of error, this is extremely rare. The fact is that the update may not be done correctly, causing compatibility issues. And if the operating system does not know how to work with new information, it will not launch anything.

The second reason for this problem may be hidden in the cache. This is temporary data that clogs up the system if not deleted. Any operating system has some kind of cache, and if you don’t do anything with it, it will definitely fill the system with garbage.

In our case, there may be too much of this cache, and the system simply will not have time to process it or will process it for a very long time, to the point that it will crash altogether due to the fact that there is some kind of time limit on loading. It may also be that the system "realizes" its inability to process the entire cache and simply will not start YouTube app on your phone or tablet.

Finally, the third reason is that some other information that relates to this application is loading it too much or is simply affecting it badly. So this information may contain viruses or something else that the system will not be able to process at all, so, again, it will simply turn off or some kind of error will appear.

It happens that YouTube stops working immediately after downloading or watching a video. This means that the reason is definitely in it and it is precisely this that needs to be simply removed. However, deleting all other data will also not hurt, because it is impossible to say for sure that the reason is in this or that file.

So now we know why the YouTube app may not work on Android. Now let's look at how this problem is solved.

Solution

In fact, there are only two ways to solve this problem. The first one is to delete updates, cache and other data related to this application.

This is done as follows:

  • First you need to open the settings and find there an item called “Applications”.

  • Now you should go to the “Application Manager”.

  • In the list of applications you need to find Youtube and click on it.

  • The user will see the page this application. Actually, there are all the necessary buttons in order to perform the actions we need. First you need to click on the inscription “Memory”, highlighted in green in Figure 4. In the menu that opens, by pressing the appropriate buttons shown in Figure 5, the user will delete the cache and other data that may prevent the system from working normally. And if you click on options (this item is highlighted in red in Figure No. 4), a menu will appear consisting of only one item - “Uninstall updates.” Clicking on it Latest updates will be deleted and the application will return to the state it was in before the update.

Important: All actions within the framework of the above instructions were performed on a device with operating system Android 6.0.1. Earlier versions will most likely not have a task manager. That is, when you open the “Applications” item, a list of all available applications will immediately be displayed. Otherwise the process is the same.

If all of the above does not help, you can also try reinstalling the application. To do this, you need to delete it, then download it again from PlayMarket and install it. It is best to do this via WiFi, as the application is quite heavy. To remove YouTube, it is best to use Clean program Master.

Below you can see instructions for deleting the cache, other data and updating to more old version Android.

YouTube and Google Play(aka Play Store) – these are probably the two most popular and necessary programs on Android. Without the first one, you won’t be able to watch your favorite videos, and without the second one, you won’t be able to install any program or game on your tablet or smartphone. I think everyone will agree with this.

And it’s very sad when YouTube or Google Play doesn’t work. Precisely when connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi. And this happens quite often. Not long ago a question on this topic was published on the site. It has already collected quite a few comments, so I decided to put the solution to this problem in a separate article. I'll tell you about the solutions known to me. Which, judging by the reviews, really work.

And the problem is this. We take our phone or tablet that runs on Android and is connected to Wi-Fi networks, we open the same YouTube, and there is an error: “Check your network connection” and a gray exclamation mark.

And in the Play Store through the same WiFi connection an error appears: "There is no Internet connection. Check your Wi-Fi connection, or cellular network and try again."

Although our smartphone is connected to Wi-Fi. You can even see this in the screenshot. No. Sites open in the browser. So the Internet is working. Other programs also have access to the Internet.

Important point: through Mobile Internet(3G/4G) everything works. The Play Store allows you to install apps, and YouTube videos are displayed and played. Doesn't work only via Wi-Fi. And as a rule, only through a specific Wi-Fi network and on all Android devices. And maybe on others too. It doesn't matter.

Problem: There is no access to these two services from Google when connected only to a specific wireless network. Everything works through another internet connection.

If you have YouTube and/or Market does not work through any connection, even through cellular communication, then in the article I will also try to collect solutions to this problem.

To start:

  • Reboot your phone, tablet, Android TV box, or whatever you have.
  • Reboot your router. If there is such a possibility.
  • Check the operation of YouTube and the Market via another Internet connection. Mobile connection, or another Wi-Fi network.
  • Try opening a website in your browser mobile device. You can try going to the same YouTube. If nothing works in the browser either, different sites do not open, then see the article.
  • It is advisable to check if everything works on other devices.

After these steps, you should already roughly understand what exactly the reason is. Well, start from the results of these checks if you ask a question in the comments.

Let's start with the main solution.

Changing DNS in Android if YouTube and Play Market do not see the Internet connection

As practice shows, it is changing the DNS addresses of the Wi-Fi network that helps get rid of this problem. Why is this happening? Honestly, I don't know. Either due to problems with the ISP's DNS servers, or something in the router settings.

Therefore, we need to register in the properties of the “problematic” Wi-Fi network on the phone DNS addresses from Google. Or register these addresses in the Internet connection properties in the router’s web interface. Let's consider both options. But I recommend checking everything on your own first Android device. If it works, and you have several other devices with the same problem, then you can try changing the DNS on the router.

I will show you the example of a smartphone from Samsung. But there shouldn’t be any significant differences between other devices.

Go to settings, go to "Connections" - "Wi-Fi". Click on your network and hold. A menu should appear where we need to select something like “Manage network settings”.

These are DNS addresses from Google. Which I talked about in the article: .

We check that proxies are disabled (No) and save the settings.

After this everything should work.

One point: in Android there is no way to specify only static DNS and receive the IP and gateway automatically. And that's not very good. Since disabling DHCP (automatically obtaining all addresses from the router), we have set a static IP address. In my case 192.168.1.164. And if, when you reconnect to this network, this IP address is busy, then we will not be able to connect. Unless you reserve this IP address in the DHCP server settings on the router.

Therefore, if you have problems connecting to a Wi-Fi network, then know that it is most likely due to static addresses. Just change the last digit in the address (from 100 to 254), or back to Android settings install DHCP. And DNS addresses can be registered in the router settings.

I show how to do this using the example of a TP-Link router.

After this, all devices connected to this router will use the set DNS addresses.

I hope you were able to solve the problem with accessing YouTube through the application and the Google Play store.

Additional solutions for connection errors in the YouTube application and Google Play

It is possible that these two applications do not work even when connected to different wireless networks and via mobile Internet. In this case, check whether the Internet works on your smartphone at all. You can simply open a website in your browser. If the Internet does not work, then we are solving the connection problem. At the beginning of the article I provided a link to a page where everything is described in detail.

Well, let's look at a few more solutions that may come in handy.

Waiting from you feedback. Be sure to write if these solutions helped you. If they helped, what exactly? Perhaps you managed to solve this problem in another way, which you can share with us in the comments.

Do you open the Google app for watching YouTube videos on your smartphone, but the system gives you a notification that there is an error in the app?

Don't panic and immediately uninstall the program or take the device to the service center. There are several ways to solve the problem.

When an error occurs on Android and the YouTube application does not work, then, first of all, you can try clearing the cache and deleting unnecessary data.

Complete reinstallation of the application

Let's say that the method described above did not help. In this case, we recommend completely uninstalling the application through an item in the settings or through the Google Play program. It doesn’t matter how, the main thing is to erase it completely.

Is the problem still happening? Go to extreme measures!

Reset to factory settings

If the system still writes that an error occurred in the application, resetting the settings cannot be avoided! Unfortunately, this method will affect not only one program, but also all the data stored on your smartphone. We recommend that you save all important information, copy photos, videos, copy contacts if they were previously saved in your phone memory.

You need to understand that a reset will delete everything, as if you had just purchased a smartphone in a store.

What if you have a rooted phone?

If you have root rights on your smartphone, and you still don’t understand why YouTube doesn’t work, then the problem is most likely in these rights. Often, users with rooted devices face this problem.

In your case, you just need to remove the standard official application from your phone and download YouTube to Android as apk applications from a third-party but trusted site, for example, 4pda or apkmirror. Just in case, check it with an antivirus. Even a computer program will do.

It says there was an error in the application and the window does not close

Another one possible problem- this is the appearance of an error, as a result of which the user cannot do absolutely anything! That is, you cannot go into settings or any other application, you cannot press the “Back” key, or go to the menu.

First try restarting your smartphone. If everything works correctly, then go back to the program in which the error occurs and try to resume it. Appears? Then restart your smartphone again and do all the steps we described above.

If the smartphone cannot be turned off or rebooted, you will have to do recovery. Read this in our separate article so as not to accidentally “kill” your phone.

In very rare cases, all the operations that we have described will not have to be performed. You may want to first check to see if you have the latest version of the program that is causing this issue. Just go to Google service Play and see if there are updates. If yes, then update.

Another one possible reason— version of your Android. Perhaps some kind of patch has been released for it that fixes most of the problems and vulnerabilities. In this case, be sure to update to latest version and update your smartphone.
