The easiest and most effective way to disable updates is to use the ICQ Update Patch add-on. Unlike other solutions that may not get rid of the problem, this utility will definitely remove automatic updates. It is placed on the sixth, seventh or Lite version ICQ You need to work with it like this:

Run the patch.
Specify the path to the directory with the messenger. To do this, click the “Change” button.
Check “Create a backup of existing files” if you want to save backup copy original files.
Click on "Start".

To use the ICQ interface to which you are accustomed, you need to uninstall it yourself and install the previous version of the utility. After all, it is no longer possible to roll back ICQ through the program menu itself. Before erasing it, save your message history in separate documents (if it is activated in the settings). After this, you need to get rid of ICQ that does not suit you.

Go to “Start” - “Control Panel”.

Actively developing social networks dealt a serious blow to ICQ’s position; many users began to communicate exclusively there.

As a result, in 2010, the company was purchased by the investment fund Digital Sky Technologies, which was led by the famous billionaire Alisher Usmanov, and became part of the Mail.ru Group. At this moment, messengers for smartphones Whatsapp and Viber began to take over the world of online communication. Many have begun to forget the “grandfather” of all popular instant messaging clients.

Before doing this, you need to completely remove the messenger from your computer. Using the standard Windows Add/Remove Programs tool will not help, as it leaves Agent “tails” on the hard drive. Eliminate all hidden components of the program, as well as accompanying Mail.ru products (Sputnik, Amigo browser, etc.) you need to use third party utilities- for example, Revo Uninstaller, CCleaner, Geek Uninstaller, Wise Disk Cleaner, etc.

Open the properties of the bin folder, go to the “Security” tab and remove all rights for all user groups.

After this, you can download and install the usual version of the messenger. You need to run the program and use it for some time, since you can disable the Mail.ru Agent update only after the magentsetup.exe file is created.

Create a text file called magentsetup, change its extension from .txt to .exe and deny all rights to it.
