Positioning

Extension model range dictates new rules of the game, and Sony Ericsson tries to create models aimed at different market segments. It turns out that the same device looks different and has different positioning. This is roughly what happened in the case of the Sony Ericsson T650i and Sony Ericsson K770i. The models are to some extent twin brothers or sisters, judging by their code names. In the case of the Sony Ericsson T650i, we see a design solution, but the Sony Ericsson K770i is positioned as a photo solution from the Cyber-Shot line. To be honest, there are no differences between the devices; the photographic component in both cases is comparable; the only assets you can add to the K770i are the flash and the curtain covering the camera. The quality of the final photos is comparable, and in both cases it is inferior to the Sony Ericsson K790i/K800i. An interesting conflict arises when the company's flagship, which is the Sony Ericsson K800i, has a lower cost, better functionality, and the released model cannot boast of anything other than an attractive design. In this case, the bet is on it and on the novelty of the phone.

If you follow the model index, then this is a junior device in relation to the flagship, but at the same time it is not so far away. Functionally, the devices are very similar, there are no special differences; they use the well-proven A100 platform. Unlike the T650i, this device has every chance of becoming a bestseller from the moment its cost begins to decrease. The price of this solution and its popularity are directly related. In my opinion, this device was released for those who like the functionality of the Sony Ericsson K800i, but do not like its design.

Design, dimensions, control elements

The model is available in three colors – Truffle Brown, milky white (Sandy Biege), and purple (Ultra Violet). All three colors look advantageous and attract attention. It’s hard to settle on any color; the choice is not so easy.

Unlike the Sony Ericsson T650i, the body is made of plastic, although there are metal elements in the design, such as a latch on the back cover from the inside, the chassis of the phone. Hand marks do not remain on the surface of the case, the only exception is the glass of the screen, it is mineral, it is not plastic.

Traditionally, the volume key is located on the right side surface, and the camera button is right there. The 3.2-megapixel camera lens itself is hidden under a sliding shutter, this is a sign of the CyberShot line. You can see an indicator near the curtain; it lights up green during various events.

The speaker that plays ringtones is also located on the back surface, and there is a strap holder on the bottom end. At the top end you can find the power button of the device, which is also responsible for changing profiles.

The Fast Port interface connector is located on the left side. Considering the presence of a desktop charger for this type of connector and its location, there are no problems with this.

On the front panel there is a hole for the front camera for video calls, and there is also a light indicator. Main speaker grille removed metal mesh and very small.

Phone size – 105x47x14.5 mm, weight – 95 grams. The device will fit comfortably in both a shirt pocket and a trouser pocket. The dimensions of the phone can be considered average, a sort of average in the good sense of the word. Compared to the T650i, the thickness has increased by 2 mm, this is the cost of the lens curtain.

Display

The display displays up to 262,000 colors with a resolution of 240x320 pixels (2-inch diagonal, TFT). This allows you to display up to 8 lines of text and up to three service lines on the screen for most modes; for viewing Internet resources, when working with e-mail, with messages, it is possible to display more lines due to smaller size font.

Similar to other models of the company, a mirror substrate is used, which increases the readability of the screen in the sun, the picture remains visible. Similar screens are used on many latest models companies, for example, Sony Ericsson S500i, Sony Ericsson W580i. The main complaint is only the relatively small diagonal; other screen characteristics are not bad.

Keyboard

The keys in this model are classic, they are average in ergonomics, but they will appeal to everyone who does not like designer delights. Moderately soft pressing, good movement, distinctive features of the keyboard. Backlit keys white, various effects are implemented for it, including attenuation, overflow, and so on.

Battery

The back cover has no play and is easy to open. Inside there is a lithium-polymer battery BST-38, its capacity is 930 mAh. According to the manufacturer, the device's operating time in standby mode is up to 300 hours, in talk mode – up to 7 hours. Under Moscow network conditions, the device worked on average for three days under moderate load (up to an hour of calls, about 30 minutes of games, 20 minutes of browser use). A heavy load means that you will have to recharge the device daily or every two days. At the same time, a very small number of conversations means that the phone can last up to 3-4 days, but this is an unlikely scenario. In European networks, the operating time will be at least twice as long in all modes, due to better network coverage. Music playback time is up to 16 hours.

Data transfer

When connecting via USB, you are forced to choose whether you will access files on the memory card, this is a data transfer mode, or you will continue to work with the phone, or the Print mode will be turned on (printing photos). In the first case, the phone turns off, you see the memory card and phone memory. Despite the stated support for USB 2.0, the data transfer speed does not exceed 500 Kb/s. In the second case there are various USB settings To access the network, the phone acts as a modem.

Bluetooth. Bluetooth in this model is version 2 and supports EDR; you can set an increased energy saving mode in the menu. The A2DP profile is also supported, which allows the use of wireless stereo headphones. The model supports the following profiles:

  • Basic Imaging Profile
  • Basic Printing Profile
  • Dial-Up Networking Profile
  • File Transfer Profile
  • Generic Access Profile
  • Generic Object Exchange Profile
  • Handsfree Profile
  • Headset Profile
  • JSR-82 Java API
  • Object Push Profile
  • Personal Area Network Profile
  • Serial Port Profile
  • Service Discovery Application Profile
  • Synchronization Profile
  • SyncML OBEX binding

Memory, memory cards

The phone has about 16 MB of memory available to the user, and the kit also includes an M2 card. Hot-swappable memory cards are supported; the maximum card capacity is 2 GB.

Performance

Typical performance for the latest generation of the company's devices, which differs positively from most models on the market. There are no restrictions on the size of the JAR file, the HEAP size is from 512 KB to 1.5 MB.

Camera

The phone uses a 3.2-megapixel CMOS matrix with autofocus, but it differs from that in the Sony Ericsson K790i/K800i; the image quality is worse. The CyberShot camera interface is used, familiar from previous devices.

The camera settings look like this:

Shutter sound. Select one of three shutter sounds; the sound cannot be turned off.

White balance. Choice between automatic mode, as well as Incandescent, Fluorescent, Daylight, Cloudy.

Effects. Several effects can be applied to pictures, namely: Negative, Solarize, Sepia, Black & White.

Timer– activated for a certain time to take pictures of your loved one.

There are various shooting modes. Night mode Designed for shooting at night or in low light conditions. Noise in photographs increases, shutter speed increases (you cannot move the camera, otherwise you will get a blurry photo).

Shooting mode. Normal mode is for taking regular photos. Burst mode (Burst 4) – taking 4 pictures at once, a series. Panorama – obtaining panoramic images, a very interesting mode that allows you to obtain unusual photographs, analogues in this moment No. The last mode is taking pictures using frames; the resolution of the photo is automatically reduced.

In shooting mode, the phone screen plays the role of a viewfinder, the movement of the image on the screen is smooth, everything is visible very well. The number keys allow you to quickly switch various functions and shooting parameters, this significantly speeds up working with the camera. In this mode, the keys are backlit in blue and it clearly shows the corresponding icons.

Video can be recorded in two resolutions (176x144, 128x96), file format is 3GP. The duration of the videos can be specified as limited (up to 10 seconds) or unlimited. Quality of rollers for modern apparatus does not stand up to any criticism, this is the weakest point of all products from Sony Ericsson.

Menu

The model's interface is familiar from Sony Ericsson devices; the main menu is a set of 12 icons. There is fast navigation using digital sequences. Shortcuts can be created to most menu items preset by the manufacturer, but not to your applications or files.

Ease of input remains the same. So, by pressing the # key, you bring up a list of available languages and can easily switch between them while typing.

The manufacturer, in addition to traditional vertical menu items, has provided horizontal thematic bookmarks. For example, in the call list, which opens by pressing the call button, you can view not only the last dialed numbers, but immediately (horizontal presses of the joystick) switch to bookmarks with the last missed and received calls. In the phone menu, such navigation is used in all possible places; it greatly facilitates communication with the phone. I note that similar horizontal panels are in the phone book, settings menu, and a number of other menus.

The Activity Menu consists of four tabs. The first three display events, such as: missed calls, reminders, messages; This is, in fact, the first bookmark. You can disable the use of the Activity Menu for such events, in which case pop-up warning windows will appear for each type of event. The third tab is your shortcuts, you set them yourself. The fourth tab contains links to the most frequently used resources; Google search proudly appears in first place here.

The second tab is the most interesting; it is a list of running applications. The user can run up to eight Java applications (there are no real limits) and switch between them. This is quite useful if you are using an ICQ-like mobile client that needs to be online all the time, but at the same time want to play a game written in Java. At the moment, similar devices from other manufacturers have not been announced.

Themes, design elements

This model is not positioned as emotional, the device has 3 different themes, they are built using flash, they change the appearance of the main menu and its organization. The themes are very interesting, there are vibration effects when navigating, and in standby mode in some themes the location of the windows that display information about the current compositions changes. In short, the topic model is very good.

Another aspect is a number of video tones prepared by the manufacturer, these are simple melodies combined with simple graphics, they can be used as calls. Until this moment, other manufacturers did not have this, and Nokia is moving in the same direction, but so far it has not offered preset tones.

Phone book

It is possible to record 1000 names with completely filled fields, but the limit on the number of telephones is 2500. That is, despite recording up to 5 telephone numbers per name, you cannot exceed 2500 numbers in total. This is enough even for the most active users; for some, the address book volume exceeds 500 names.

For one name in the phone memory you can save several numbers, email address, IM number, other contact information. In the settings, you have the opportunity to select the required fields; they will be displayed when filling out. There is sorting by fields, in particular by last name and first name, but there is only one input field. Sorting is dynamic and acts immediately; the device rebuilds the presentation of the list.

For individual names, you can specify a personal ringtone and assign your own picture. At incoming call in this case, its own melody will play and the selected image will be displayed. The Date of Birth field can be synchronized with the organizer, and an event warning interval can be set.

When entering information, you move between tabs; on the first one, you enter phone numbers and distribute them by type. In some ways, the organization of input with bookmarks is reminiscent of that in Outlook, it’s convenient. There is input of voice tags for separate rooms, recorded for a name, there can be up to 40 of them in total. The voice dialing has remained unchanged, it is already beginning to look archaic against the backdrop of the introduction of systems with independent voice recognition.

Traditionally, the company believes that the SIM card and its memory can be used by the owner in extreme cases, and not for storing permanent information. You can view data on the map from a separate menu; they are not displayed in the general list.

It is possible to create an archive copy of all recordings on the memory card and restore them later on the device.

Subscriber groups are only required for mass mailing messages or call whitelist, you cannot assign your own picture or melody to a separate group.

Any video can be used as a call for a phone book subscriber.

Messages

All options for working with messages are standard; there are templates and the ability to create your own. Both the phone memory and the SIM card are used to store messages. Chat function supported. In general, everything is the same as on other phones from this company. The emoticon icons have changed, they have become more interesting.

The implementation of MMS is top notch, you can literally create videos; in terms of the number of settings, on the one hand, and their simplicity, on the other, the phone compares favorably with many devices.

Mail client supports sending and receiving messages, all possible encodings are supported, including all Russian. E-mail messages can be stored on a memory card.

There is a separate password for SMTP accounts in the email settings, which is very nice. The settings are flexible, support for almost all code pages has been added, not just Unicode. In the body of the letter, attachments supported by the device are displayed as thumbnails. The device does not understand office files or PDF, but they can be received on the phone and saved in any directory. Limits on the size of a file sent from or received on a phone are set by the operator. Emails with attachments of about 6-7 MB leave the phone without any problems. The device supports the Push Mail standard. Naturally, sending and receiving letters occurs in the background.

RSS Feed

The settings are extremely simple: you specify the name of the feed and its address, then the phone pulls it out. It is possible to update either a single feed or all at once. The capabilities of the built-in browser are used for display. The content of the feed can be loaded according to a schedule.

Call lists

The general call list contains up to 30 entries with date and time. Opposite each entry there is an icon showing the type of call (missed, received, dialed number). In addition, additional icons are displayed in the general list, indicating whether the number is in the memory of the device or SIM card. The list of missed calls can also be viewed individually and can contain up to 10 entries. Information about the price or time of the last call and all calls is also displayed. Moving between individual lists is possible using bookmarks; they save a lot of time.

Entertainment

In this menu you can access your photo album and a list of music files. Interesting function MusicDJ, although it is very niche and is unlikely to be in demand by a wide range of consumers. In this editor you have the opportunity to create your own melodies and edit up to 4 tracks.

An advanced version of MusicDJ is the function VideoDJ, it allows you to edit not only music, but also add pictures and inscriptions. The final result is formatted as a 3GP file, which can be transferred in an MMS or E-mail message, or immediately sent to another phone.

Editor PhotoDJ retained the name, but completely changed its essence. The manufacturer has lifted the curtain on the following CyberShot products, for which such an editor is becoming standard. How often do you draw on your phone or create your own pictures? The answer for most people will be obvious - never. At the same time, removing the red-eye effect, adjusting the brightness of the image, contrast, clarity, perhaps applying one or another effect is sometimes useful, but you have to wait for the photo to load onto the PC. The purpose of the new PhotoDJ is to make such simple operations as easy as possible and make them possible on the phone itself. This move can be assessed extremely positively.

Remote control– the ability to control other devices via Bluetooth connection. Standard for company phones.

Sound recording– voice recorder, allows you to make voice notes, which can then be used as a ringtone. The conversation is recorded from the context menu; there are no restrictions on recording time.

Games– there is one game on the phone – Lumines Block Challenge.

Organizer

The organizer menu hides many functions at once. Let's consider first calendar. There are three types of viewing events: weekly, monthly or today. In the latter case, you see a list of all to-dos and reminders; in the other two, time with events or a day is highlighted. There is a quick transition to the selected year, month and day, everything is quite traditional, like entering a schedule. So, you get the opportunity to type the name, indicate the place where the event will take place, the duration, set a reminder (in advance or at specified time). There are repeating events. They are set for annual, weekly or monthly repetition. Reminders also work when the device is turned off, if you specify this in the settings.

To-do list The device is ascetic, there are only two options for events: a call and a reminder. On the other hand, this is really enough; simplicity has its positive sides.

The phone has a full-fledged search organized for the calendar: you specify a search string (a word or part of it), and all events that match this condition are displayed in front of you. The function works quickly even if the number of records is more than 100; a quick transition to an event is possible from the resulting list.

Notes. The phone allows you to record short text notes; the first word from the note is displayed in the general list. This is not always convenient, since you have to start the text with a marker word in order to then remember what it is actually about.

Alarm clocks. There are exactly 5 alarm clocks, each of which can be set to work on certain days of the week. In addition to the alarm signal, you can select a small note and a picture, they will be displayed on the screen. Any sound file can serve as an alarm signal.

Countdown timer. Everything here is quite standard, however, the same can be said about a stopwatch with measurement of intermediate values. The device has a code memo, so beloved by many, and a regular calculator.

Flashlight– allows you to use the flash as a flashlight, a very convenient function.

WAP

The browser is assigned a separate menu item, it is version 2 and supports secure connections, which is important for electronic transactions. Using the browser, you can download new wallpapers, themes, ringtones to your phone - all this is available on the original website.

The NetFront browser is used as standard on Sony Ericsson phones; it supports single-lane page browsing (automatic formatting for mobile device), viewing html pages. Convenient things include creating your own folders with files and bookmarks. The browser is one of the best, but the phone's limited resources don't make using it an easy task. In general, those who constantly use the Internet should think about a PDA or laptop, since it is not very interesting on this class of devices. At the same time, RSS Feeds support is good; it allows you to use the phone to read news and material announcements. Russian encodings are still a headache; the built-in browser works extremely poorly with them.

There is no work with HTML pages containing complex formatting or exceeding 500 KB in size. In many ways standard browser is optimal, but using Opera Mini is preferable, as it provides greater opportunities.

Settings

Actually, this menu contains all the settings related to the operation of the device. In standby mode, you can choose to display the clock on the screen at the bottom (whether present or not), plus a choice of font size has become available; when large, the clock is clearly visible, although it is made translucent. There is nothing more to say, everything is traditional.

File manager, memory capacity

The user has 16-18 MB of free space in the device’s memory, and the entire memory card is still free, here he can store his data and files (photos, videos, applications). The remaining memory is occupied by pre-installed applications; as a rule, they cannot be deleted. Also, part of the memory is allocated for functions such as phone book, call recordings, etc.

The phone has a simple file manager, with its help you can sort files into different folders, create your own directories in the device’s memory and store files there. The phone, both with and without a cable, is perfect for the role of a storage device; you can store your work files on it.

Traditionally, in the list of files you can sort them by date, type, size. The Photo Album has a new view called Timeline. Once you select this view, you will see a ruler at the top of the screen that will display a list of months, and in the list - small icons for photos taken in those months. You can refine the search and press the key again, then a list of days for the selected month will be shown. A good display that allows you to navigate between the rubble of photographs.

Video player

The manufacturer has placed the player in a separate menu item; this was done deliberately to emphasize the difference from a regular music player, as well as many models from other manufacturers, where music and video playback are combined in a single menu item. The advantages include the ability to play QVGA videos at a frequency of 30 frames, progressive rewinding, the ability to view in landscape mode, and automatic adaptation of high resolutions to the screen resolution. Finally, a unique opportunity is to receive snapshots of frames from the playing video; they are saved as pictures and can be used by you in the future at your discretion.

Radio

Supports memory for 20 FM radio stations, there is automatic setting and RDS function. The quality of the radio implementation is no different from the K750i, it is quite decent.

Walkman player version 1.4

The device finds all files and directories on the memory card, extracts information from metadata (ID3 tags). Supported audio file formats are MP3, AAC, AAC+, E-AAC+, WAV, WMA and m4a. There are no bitrate restrictions for MP3 files; you can also download files from VBR. The company recommends using files with a bitrate of 192 Kbps.

Among the settings, there is the ability to customize equalizers, and there are preset values (Bass, Voice, Tremble, etc.), as well as the ability to create your own settings. In terms of its capabilities, the player belongs to the first generation of Walkman, everything is as simple as possible, there is no support for Album Art and other additional functions.

Applications

The phone has one application - AccuWeather, it allows you to view the weather in different regions of the world.

Impression

The device has 72-tone polyphony, but there is no difference in the sound of MP3 melody compared to other Sony Ericsson devices. The volume of the device is average, it sounds with a predominance of bass, the sound is rich in call mode. The device can be heard on the street. The vibration alert is average or slightly stronger in strength; it is not always felt. The device's connection quality is good, everything is typical for the company's products.

The phone will go on sale in mid-October, its cost in Russia will be about 13,000 rubles, while in Europe it will range from 290 to 320 Euros. In the presence of a competitor in the form of Sony Ericsson K800i, this device wins solely in design, it has no other advantages. If you look at the quality of photos, and this is an important factor for you, the flagship again wins over the new product. This is understandable, the flagship has more massive sales, and the company did not risk undermining them. Will the model be popular? It’s impossible to answer the question unequivocally, but it seems to me that for certain buyers the Sony Ericsson K770i can be an excellent purchase and will fall in love at first sight. The device has its own face and attracts attention. A pleasant model, which today can no longer claim to be a technological leader, maximally loaded with phone functions, and does not pretend to be. This is a model for ordinary buyers who will like its appearance. That is, the calculation is largely built around an impulsive purchase, rather than a sober calculation and preliminary reading of materials such as this.

Previously, Sony Ericsson was known for its bestsellers, which overshadowed other models. Now the situation is gradually improving, the portfolio is becoming more even. With the change of management and due to the latest series of not very successful premieres, growth will slow down, but the positive dynamics will continue thanks to the expanded range of models. Now we are seeing an interesting process of transition from quality to quantity - if previously the SE model line had unconditional bestsellers like the K750i, now they have been smoothed out. This allows us to bring to market assortment solutions that fill certain niches, but are not as profitable.

An inevitable consequence of growth for SE would sooner or later be an image emphasis. This is how emotional products appeared - first the Z610i, later the Z310i. As sales showed, the emphasis on design was not chosen in the most successful way; the demand for these models was average. As a result, the company had to reconsider its approach to the fashion segment. Some of the developments were implemented in the premium T650i. We already wrote in the review of this model that SE’s attempt to enter premium can be read as unsuccessful. At the same time, the model is definitely interesting, it will sell well, but for its positioning it is clearly undervalued, and has a reserve of charm much less than the same 8800 and 8600 from Nokia. In a good way, this is a fashion phone, not a premium one. In any case, stylish, simpler than the company's technological hits - K790i and K800i.

Sony Ericsson traditionally does not skimp on rich equipment. For example, the W910i comes with a Bt stereo headset, and the P1i comes with GPS navigator etc. There are many examples, and the K770i is no exception. The set here is:

Battery (BST-38)
? AC charger
? Car charger 12V CLA
? USB cable for synchronization/charging
? Wired stereo headset (HPM-62)
? Memory card 512 MB Memory Stick Micro (M2)
? Software disc
? User guide

Among the pleasant moments, we especially note the charger for the car, which is usually not found in the standard package of the phone. In addition, I was pleased with the capacious card - even more capacious than that of the flagship K790i and K800i. The additions are very useful for a camera phone.

Design, ergonomics

The classic form factor is typical for most Sony Ericsson models. Moreover, all devices of the Cyber-shot series are monoblocks. The K770i was no exception. Most of all, the new product resembles, unsurprisingly, the T650i, and not its neighbors in the photo line. The body is completely plastic. Material High Quality, there are no complaints about the coverage either. This makes a positive impression, the K770i looks very decent, although the metal in the T650i is definitely more solid. Three color versions are available: Truffle Brown, white Sandy Beige and Ultra Violet. The first option will be the most popular, and therefore we are testing it.

An advantageous difference between the K770i and the K790i/K800i and K810i is the significantly thinner body (though it is 2 mm thicker than the T650i), which makes the device fit better in the hand. At the same time, in terms of this parameter, the model is not at all a market leader; there are also thinner camera phones, including 3 MP with autofocus, in particular from Samsung. Like the thickness, overall dimensions, and the weight of the new product is average, which is why the ergonomics only benefit - this aspect in the K770i is really very well balanced. The keyboard is more comfortable than the T650i, primarily due to the larger button sizes. The horizontal segmentation could be better, in the dark you can miss when?blind? set. But I was pleased with the backlight; it is two-color - white and blue, depending on the application.

On the back side there are two diodes that provide lighting effects; it looks interesting, which is especially important for an image tube. Following the K810i, icons for camera functions are placed on the main keyboard; now they are located on both vertical rows of buttons and are thus highlighted in blue in camera mode. There are the following options: zoom, timer, night mode, shooting mode, focus, scenes and backlight. The latter, by the way, is ordinary - LED, not xenon. Two rockers are located symmetrically to it, one of which is responsible for monitoring the lens curtain. Not the most practical solution - the mechanism is delicate in every sense and can fail very quickly.

The K770i's performance is good, but not perfect. There is no play, but there is creaking when squeezing, the coating back cover Gradually it gets scratched and rubbed off. Unlike the T650i, there is no case included. As for the elements, everything here also corresponds to?premium? relative Sony Ericsson has traditionally placed the interface connector on the left side. It also serves to connect a wired headset, which is even more disappointing. Another unpleasant moment is the lack of opportunity? hot? changing the memory card. You don't have to remove the battery, thereby turning off the power, but you do need to remove the back cover. The last procedure is not trivial due to the inconvenient latch that barely protrudes at the level of the case. Otherwise, however, there are no complaints - everything is traditional: the power button on top, the volume rocker on the right, just below the two-position camera button.

I was pleased that there was a curtain. In the T650i, the design of the camera block is such that the lens area protrudes slightly, and therefore the protective glass gradually wears away. Although, with such a thickness of the case, the camera unit fits quite well - proven by the same Samsung. Additionally, the T650i's flash LED has a small gap with the cover, which causes contamination. Not a very good move by Sony Ericsson. In the K770i, both points have been corrected - it is obvious that they have worked with the comments and wishes of customers, which is commendable. At the same time, the pursuit of mobility resulted in the fact that opening the curtain is not very convenient - tactile friction is minimal, and there is no protrusion above the level of the body at all. Over time, the auto-finishing mechanism will begin to work less clearly, and at this point problems may arise. But this trouble does not negate the usefulness of the curtain - for example, during the test we deliberately dropped the device into wet grass several times. The same procedure was done with the T650i. Moisture got under the protective glass of the latter's lens, and we had to disassemble the housing to dry the module. There was no such problem with the K770i.

Compare with K800i and T650i:

What is completely predictable is that back panel from the K770i fits the T650i and vice versa (see photos), the layout of the elements is identical, which once again shows the family connections of the devices, these are twin brothers in different cases. The K770 is just a couple of millimeters thicker, and the T650i camera module protrudes from the body by the same couple of millimeters. From this point of view, the use of the Cyber-shot brand in this phone is interesting, because in practice it is as much a photo solution as the T650i is.

Sony Ericsson K770i:: Review:: Communications

As with the K800i, as well as most other 3G SE models, there is support for third-generation networks and a second camera (VGA) for video calls. However, there is no analogue of the paired K790i, and therefore EDGE remained out of work - a serious disappointment for Russia, where UMTS networks are still far from widespread distribution. A strange habit of Sony Ericsson, which, however, has already been corrected in the K850i - the device supports both 3G and EDGE.

There is no infrared port in the model, there is only a Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR module. There are no complaints about its operation, including when using a stereo headset. Sony Ericsson's A2DP implementation is the best on the market. In addition to this, the following profiles are supported:

Basic Imaging
? Dial-up Networking
? File Transfer
? Generic Access
? Generic Object Exchange
? Handsfree
? Headset
? HID
? JSR-82 Java API
? Object Push
? Personal Area Networking
? Serial Port
? Synchronization
? SyncML OBEX binding
? Audio/Video Remote Control
? Phonebook Access

The wired connection is implemented traditionally using a proprietary interface. Support for USB2.0 is declared, but in practice the speed is significantly lower. The only hope is for new firmware. Both modem connection and Mass Storage and PictBridge are supported.

The desired mode can be selected in the corresponding menu. Connecting via Mass Storage in our case worked quite correctly, both drives were detected (the phone itself and the memory card).

Synchronization is also possible using Sony Ericsson PC Suite, which comes on a disk included with the device. The only thing that disappoints is the aforementioned?geography? connector on the left.

There is a built-in FM tuner with support for music recognition via TrackID. RDS is supported, an autosave function and memory for 20 stations are available. The application interface is pleasant and convenient. Reception quality high level. The volume in the wired headset and speaker is good (lower than Nokia) and in the Bt headset is excellent (higher than Nokia).

Sony Ericsson K770i:: Review:: Memory

The Sony Ericsson K770i has 16 MB of built-in storage, and expansion is also available via M2 cards (hot swapping is not supported - you need to remove the back cover). The model comes with a 256 MB storage device.

Sony Ericsson K770i:: Review:: Screen

Sony Ericsson K770i is equipped with a TFT display with QVGA resolution (320x240), which is typical for this class of devices, but the size is disappointing - only 1.9?. The color color is also not encouraging - 262K (Nokia also uses elements with 16 million shades).

Compare with K800i and T650i:

T650i / K770i / K800i

In reality, the picture is pleasant - contrasting, bright, rich. Not ideal, but very good. The viewing angles are excellent. In the sun, due to the mirror substrate, the K770i display looks decent. A comparison with the Samsung E590 is available in the Sony Ericsson T650i review.

Sony Ericsson K770i:: Review:: User interface

Like most Sony Ericsson devices, the K770i is built on the A100 platform. The new A200 is used in the flagship to set it apart. Along with Nokia's S40, this is the most powerful solution for the European market. The pipe can be styled with a variety of themes. In addition to a picture from the theme, any picture or photograph can be used as a desktop wallpaper or screensaver, and svf animation can be used as a screen saver. In standby mode, the screen is informative; the top line contains icons for the reception level, battery charge, notifications of messages, calls, Bluetooth enabled, and so on. Appearance The clock on the display can be changed, they can be large or small, this is assigned in the screen settings.

The main menu looks traditional for the company's products. The traditional look is described by four rows of bright, well-drawn animated icons, but there are also so-called flash themes that allow you to change the phone interface, the location of the icons, their size, animation, color, and so on, there are really a lot of options. When moving from one icon to another, vibration is activated; its presence depends on the specific topic. The device comes pre-installed with five themes. The 12 icons that make up the main menu are as follows:

PlayNow
? Internet
? Entertainment
? Cyber-shot
? Messaging
? Music player
? File manager
? Contacts
? Alarms
? Calls
? Organizer
? Settings

The menu has navigation using numerical sequences. In addition to vertical items, in some sections of the menu there are horizontal “bookmarks”, for example in the File Manager and in the Call Log, which are switched by moving the navigation key or joystick to the right and left.

The menu is organized logically and conveniently; the only drawback is the inability to rearrange items or arrange them according to your personal preferences, although manufacturers such as Nokia and Motorola offer similar functionality. As an example, let's take an icon that launches the PlayNow service, which is used to download music tracks and ringtones. It is difficult to judge how justified the presence of this icon is, but it is quite obvious that most users would be happy to replace this icon with some other one, for example, a profile menu, or starting a radio if it is available. The K770i is also ?fast? a menu with four tabs, to open which there is a button to the right of the navigation key:

  • New Events
  • Running apps
  • My shortcuts
  • Internet
  • The first displays events: reminders, calls, messages. On the second there is a list of running applications. Essentially, it is a task manager for switching between active Java applications. This allows, for example, to play your favorite game, be online on ICQ, and at the same time respond in a timely manner to the activity of each application. It is extremely convenient, this is one of the key aspects of the A100 platform, followed by the A200, which is not yet found among competitors. Third bookmark?quick? menu - custom shortcuts. Finally, the fourth contains links to the most commonly used resources.

Sony Ericsson K770i:: Review:: Telephone service

The contact book is designed for 1000 entries, up to 5 numbers for each, they are home, mobile, work, fax, other. When entering a new number, you are asked to select its type; each subsequent number cannot repeat the type of the previous one, that is, several cannot be entered on one contact. mobile numbers. To view all the numbers assigned to a subscriber, it is not necessary to open the record; the numbers are scrolled through by moving the navigation key to the right/left. If there is more than one phone number associated with an entry, you can select any one as the default.

In addition, you can enter your E-Mail address, IM number, WWW address, postal address, position, organization, address details (home and work), and birthday. The latter can be synchronized with the organizer, and you will never forget about the bright holiday of your beloved grandmother, because the mobile phone will signal in advance and thereby allow you to take care of the gift. A contact can also be associated text information in the form of a note.

There are groups, but you cannot assign a picture/video or melody to them - an unpleasant moment. But personal settings of this kind are available for each subscriber. In addition, it can be used as a call standard ringtone, so user file, even a dictaphone recording.

Traditionally, the general list contains either contacts from the phone’s memory or from the SIM card, but not at the same time. This is not very convenient, but you can select the phone book displayed by default in the list - SIM card or phone, and enable auto-saving of newly added contacts to the SIM card. Possibility present Reserve copy contact books to a memory card. Unfortunately, there are no blacklists (for example, like Samsung) in the device, and therefore you will have to ignore unwanted calls or use a third-party Java application for sorting. There is sorting, you can sort entries in the phone book of the device, but only by first name or last name; sorting by other fields is not possible, there is no such option.

The voice dialing (up to 40 tags) was disappointing - SonyEricsson uses an old system, practically unchanged since the T610 model, which is not very convenient to use. Among the successful examples to follow in this regard, let us recall the independent dialing system of many Motorola devices.

The call picture is large, the PhotoID (and VideoID) service is implemented quite well. When dialing phone number I'm pleased with the size of the numbers, they are large, clearly drawn, no problems arise. Speed dialing is standard; keys two through nine are available for numbers.

The call list is standard for company phones. Received, dialed and missed calls are displayed in the general list; you can also move between separate call lists by pressing the navigation key. The room types in the general list are provided with corresponding icons, everything is well drawn.

Sony Ericsson K770i:: Review:: Messaging system

Sony Ericsson is traditionally strong in implementing this service (it is possible to store up to 1000 SMS + SIM card memory), especially for MMS. By the way, there is also the ability to read RSS feeds; you don’t need any special settings, everything is extremely simple: you only indicate the address of the news feed and its name. As for the messaging system itself, everything here corresponds to other devices on the A100 platform. When creating a new message, a pop-up menu offers a choice between Text message, Picture msg, Voice message and Email.

Typing is notably fast? a line of characters that clearly shows when to expect the right one. An excellent help for those who are just getting acquainted with Sony Ericsson or simply do not know the order of characters due to the small need for the messaging function. The maximum number of message characters is 1900, and 8 lines of text can fit on the screen. Another useful feature is Copy & paste, which allows you to copy entire text or select segments selectively. There is no analogue in phones from other brands except Nokia. The function can be accessed via context menu, then you need to select the beginning and end of the text that you want to highlight. There are also traditional things like T9, templates, emotion systems, etc., there is a chat option.

To notify about a message, you can select a signal from seven proposed ones; they cannot be replaced, or you can assign your own signal. The so-called option is available. request a response, when you enable this setting, when reading a message you send, the recipient will see a notification that the sender needs a response, this makes sense for messages of high importance when you need to be sure that your message has been read.

The E-Mail client is not bad, although not ideal - the functionality is sufficient, but nothing more. There is work with attachments; it is possible to save attachments of any format, regardless of whether they are recognized by the phone itself or not. There is no support for office files. You can sort email messages by size, date and time, or by the information they contain.

You can also choose the font size in the message, choosing from three options - small, medium or large. There is an option to display a message full screen, copy text, and so on; in general, the operations are standard.

    The following encodings are supported:

  • ISO: ISO-8859-1, ISO-8859-2, ISO-8859-5, ISO-8859-7,ISO-8859-9.ISO-8859-10
  • Windows: Windows-1251, Windows-1252, Windows-1254, Windows-1255, Windows-1258
  • US-ASCII
  • Unicode: UTF-7, UTF-8, UTF-16
  • Japanese: Shift.JIS, ISO-2022-JP
  • Cyrillic: KOI8-R
  • Simplified Chinese: GB2312, GB18030
  • Traditional Chinese: Big5
  • Thai TIS - 60
  • In general, the client's characteristics are as follows:

    OTA Yes
Push email protocols POP3 and IMAP4
    IMAP Idle (IMAP4Rev1 extensions)
    OMA Email Notification 1.0
    Safety SSL/TLS, POPS/IMAPS and STARTTLS
Remote control OMA Client Provisioning and Nokia Smart Messaging
    HTML mail Yes (no tags)
    Inline images Yes
Message management Window with titles of the last 50 messages or size limit
    ESMTP Yes
    Background sending Yes

Let's look specifically at MMS, because multimedia messages Sony Ericsson A100 implements them very well. Elements can be added to the message directly from the camera or from File Manager, Contacts, Calendar, Task, Note, Browser (vBookmark). The following are supported

    audio formats:

AAC, AMR, MPEG Layer 3, Real 8, AWB, WAV, MP4, MIDI, iMelody, 3GPP, XMF, M4A, RHZ, WMA.

    video:

    MPG4, 3GPP, SDP, Real8, WMV.

    graphic arts:

JPEG, GIF87, GIF89A, PNG, SVG, WBMP, BMP.

As you can see, everything is very decent for an ordinary mobile phone. The photo or picture in the message can remain either the original size or scaled to 640x480, 320x240 or 120x160 pixels. You can enable message auto-download, report on message reading and delivery, select the creation mode (with limitation or with warning), this option relates to the size of the message.

    Sony Ericsson K770i:: Review:: PIM

The calendar supports display by month and week, and in the latter case there is a breakdown of days by hour, and there is also a quick transition to the selected year, month and day. For reminders, you can set the type, duration, location, and advance notification. Reminders can also be triggered when the phone is turned off, if this function is enabled in the settings. There is a full-fledged system for repeating events, deleting old ones (older than one day or older than a week), there is also a calendar search in notes, reminders, and so on, very convenient.

For each day, you can add an appointment for which you enter a topic, start time and duration, reminder interval, general description. The to-do list has a very modest implementation, just a task and a phone call.

The contact's birthday field can be synchronized with the organizer, and you will never forget about the bright holiday of your beloved grandmother, because the mobile phone will signal in advance and thereby allow you to take care of the gift. The reminder can be triggered on the same day, one day in advance, or any time period you set.

The alarm clock in the device can be set to go off both once and on arbitrary days of the week (you can mark any days of the week), moreover, there are now five of them, so you can wake up everyone and everything. Any melody, including MP3, can be used as a signal.

Notes, timer, stopwatch and calculator are standard, nothing to write home about. There is a code memo, which is a simple application for storing various user passwords.

    Sony Ericsson K770i:: Review:: Multimedia

Sony Ericsson products are traditionally quite good in this area, including in terms of format compatibility. The K770i supports audio MP4(AAC,AAC+,eAAC+), MP3 (officially only 192Kbit/s, but in our tests it was compatible with higher bitrates), M4A, 3GPP (AAC,AMR), AMR-NB, AMR-WB, WAV, G-MIDI1, SP-MIDI, RealAudio 8, eMelody, iMelody, RHZ, XMF, WMA, MP4 video (picture: MPEG4, sound: AAC or AMR), 3GPP (picture: MPEG4 or H.263, H.264 , audio: 3gp, AAC or AMR), RealVideo 8, WMV ASF, graphics JPEG, GIF, BMP, PNG, SVG, WBMP. In fact, all common formats are available.

The K770i uses a first-generation player that has remained virtually unchanged since the K750i. This is a simple solution for the brand (the K850i is already in its third generation), but quite sufficient by modern standards. There is work in the background, sorting and playlists, equalizers, setting the playback order. The equalizer is five-band, it is possible to change the preset setting to your taste, but you cannot save it. In general, the player interface is quite standard; it is slightly inferior in terms of convenience and visual design to many solutions on the market from the latest generation of Nokia and Samsung.

Controlling the player is very comfortable, the settings include repeating songs, playing in random order, sorting by artist, genre, extended stereo (however, turning on this parameter does not subjectively affect the sound quality). There is progressive rewinding of songs. Data for the song being played appears on the phone screen. There are no design themes, which looks unfavorable compared to the latest generation of Nokia products. The headset is ordinary, average in quality, it provides an acceptable level and nothing more. The accessory only has an answer button; there are no music file control keys: rewind, pause/play, no. MP3 playback volume is sufficient in a lot of situations, but not in noisy places, which is one of the weak points of the company's phones. The sound quality itself is not up to the mark. Nokia's latest generation phones are generally comparable in terms of playback quality and ease of use, while Samsung devices are superior to competitors in terms of sound quality and volume. Note that this does not apply to A2DP - SE is doing great here.

There is a graphics editor PhotoDJ. You can use it to process photos from your camera or just draw. Frames, effects, clipart, resizing, in a word, good functionality.

Similarly, there are video and sound editors – VideoDJ and MusicDJ. They are simpler - there is only basic functionality.

There is also a built-in FM tuner. The radio, as often happens, is better in volume than an MP3 player (both in headphones and through an external speaker, the sound is very loud), there is support for RDS, auto search.

The voice recorder can record during a conversation, but to turn it on, you will have to use the menu. The duration of the conversation is limited only by the amount of free memory.

Sony Ericsson K770i:: Review:: Set of pre-installed software

In addition to the above-mentioned multimedia applications, the phone also has a number of pre-installed applications, in particular, a good browser with support for SmartFit technology, which allows you to display large regular pages in one column. There are options for saving pictures, viewing in horizontal screen mode, and zooming the page. However, for those who really need the Internet, as always, the main option will be the OperaMini browser.

There is a program remote control some computer functions Remote control, although you need to install a special device on the PC software, which comes with the phone. Other applications for the K770i model include the games FotoQuestFishing and Solitaire 4 Pack.

There is a fairly simple file manager with basic functionality. Moreover, here, unlike contacts, it is possible to display files separately on the memory card and on the phone, or view them in a joint list.

Installation of new applications occurs without any problems; the installation jar file received via Bluetooth is quite sufficient to install the application. As with other devices from the manufacturer, built on the A100 software platform, it is possible to run several applications simultaneously. The number of applications can be large, but the productivity of the Java machine is sufficient. A running application can be minimized to the background, it will continue to work. The list of running applications is displayed in the corresponding tab of the Activity menu; you can close them, switch them, and so on, everything is implemented as conveniently and clearly as possible for the user.

    Sony Ericsson K770i:: Review:: Settings

Traditionally, there are five settings tabs:

  • General
  • Sounds & alerts
  • Display
  • Calls
  • Connectivity

  • On the first tab you can select a profile (Normal, Meeting, In car, Outdoors, Handsfree, Home, Office), but custom settings no, that is, you can only change existing profiles, but not create a new one.

You can also set the date/time, select a language, software update services, and configure voice control.

To dial a number by voice, you will have to write down your tags, the same functionality as in the last generation Nokia phones and Motorola, not here. It is also possible to answer by voice, reproduce the name of the caller, the so-called “magic word” - a voice command to enable the voice control function when connecting a certain accessory - a headset or car device speakerphone.

The method of notifying about new events is configured (two options - a pop-up window and the appearance of a notification in the events menu); actions are assigned for deflecting the navigation key or joystick, everything is standard here. This item also contains a settings wizard, security settings and a general reset of all user settings.

The Flight mode option is also available here, however, the model still does not work without a SIM card, which is an omission of the SE compared to the same Nokia.

On the second tab, you can select a ringtone and set its volume, activate a rising ringer, vibration alert, configure keyboard sounds, lighting effects, and so on.

On the third tab, you can select a theme or a separate Wallpaper, a greeting, a splash screen on the screen in standby mode, its brightness (by default 100%) and the size of the clock on the screen (large and small).

On the fourth, call control options are available ( Speed dial, Time & cost, Show/hide my no.), the slider operation option is to answer when opening, end the call when closing. Finally, the last tab allows you to configure Bluetooth and USB, there are options for synchronization, Internet installation, data transfer, and more.

    Sony Ericsson K770i:: Review:: Performance

As usual, Sony Ericsson's implementation of working with Java is excellent - the K770i supports three-dimensional profiles, it is possible to transfer MIDlets via Bluetooth, and the performance also does not disappoint. The indicators are close to the T650i, the differences are at the level of error, so we combined the devices. Sony Ericsson K790i/K800i/K810i is slightly ahead:

Sony Ericsson K770i:: Review:: Battery life

The new product is powered by a BST-38 battery with a capacity of 930 mAh. The manufacturer claims up to 540 minutes of talk time, up to 400 hours of standby. Our tests show the device to be traditionally decent, but more modest than the K800i, similar to the T650i:

    Time battery life

    Sony Ericsson K770i:: Review:: Camera

In terms of camera, the K770i is not a revelation for the market, and even less so for Sony Ericsson, which already has a K850i in its portfolio with a high-quality 5 MP module. However, the model looks very decent in its segment - along with the T650i and K810i, it is one of the few mobile phones that combine good photographic abilities and stylish appearance.

There is a 3.2 MP autofocus camera with flash. The maximum photo resolution is 2048x2536, video - traditionally modest 176x144. A VGA camera for video telephony is traditionally located above the screen.

    The settings are quite standard:

    photography

Examples of shooting in maximum settings qualities:

It is obvious that the K770i camera, although powerful in theory, is poorly implemented in practice, inferior to similar devices from competitors. In particular, color rendition is criticized; macro results are not the best (although in general, auto exposure metering is good). White balance is sometimes lame, but in most cases it works correctly. There are no complaints about JPEG compression - at maximum quality, artifacts are minimal. The controversial point is the long shutter speed, but this leads to a small amount of noise even in low light. By the way, the flash, as we have already said, is a regular diode, and not xenon, like the Cyber-shot flagships. Therefore, it’s better not to count on high-quality night shots. The same goes for video - 176x144 and 15 fps looks archaic by today's standards, especially for a Cyber-shot series camera phone. Let's compare with the T650i and K800i, also at maximum quality settings:

    T650i / K770i / K800i

    T650i / K770i / K800i

As you can see, the quality is identical to the T650i and noticeably lower than the K800i. So users who are especially demanding of this parameter are unlikely to be satisfied. For most people, what they have is enough. But it’s clearly overrated, especially compared to the more affordable K800i. But this is already a question of marketing, especially since the average price of SE devices is the highest on the market (a striking example is comparison with Samsung, the same E590, which is already three times (!) cheaper, a similar situation with the W910i / F330, etc.).

Sony Ericsson K770i:: Review:: Market prospects

The stylish development of Cyber-shot in the form of the K770i turned out to be very interesting indeed. After all, this is a fashion version of the hit K800i, which today remains one of the best-selling phones in its class. However, upon closer inspection, the cast is not from it, but from the T650i. This is somewhat disappointing, firstly in terms of the camera. The market fate of the K770i, in our opinion, will be quite thorny, because the model is 150 euros more expensive than the K800i and, due to its novelty, will cost the same as the T650i at the time of release. The start of sales is scheduled for the first days of November. Of other brands, the closest competitors are again noticeably more affordable Samsung E590, as well as Nokia 6500 slide. We would advise SE to reconsider the pricing policy for its products, otherwise the demand for the K770i in particular will be low, especially against the backdrop of the truly superbly balanced K800i for less money.

Sony Ericsson K770i:: Review:: SMAPE Opinion

Sony Ericsson K770i is an interesting development of the K800i based on the T650i. The model is notable for its appearance, especially its relatively thin body within the Cyber-shot. At the same time, the new product is inferior in terms of camera to the K800i, and in terms of the image effect of the T650i. Is it?golden? the middle with a not too wide audience of lovers of compromise.

Questions and comments about secret codes for Sony Ericsson K770i

Ask a question regarding Sony Ericsson K770i secret codes

    What I didn't like

    What I liked

good camera and speaker everything was ok but after a year it started to glitch on and off and so on 5 or 6 times a day

    What I didn't like

The keys quickly wore out, a year later the back cover began to play, it’s a pity there is no accelerometer (orientation in space), my flash drive was still glitching

    What I liked

Good camera, convenient to turn on the camera, many functions, support for many formats, video call function, multitasking, TrackID, VidoDJ, PhotoDJ, etc. standards - helped out several times

    What I didn't like

Uncomfortable in the hand (slippery). The back cover is poorly thought out - the phone itself is thin, but this cover makes it about 2 times wider. When you turn on the camera, it hangs like a child (about 1-3 minutes), sometimes I even take out the battery. The screen is small, but of high quality. If you like to take pictures and play football with it, but don’t like: listening to music, talking, surfing the Internet, then this phone is for you

    What I liked

Stylish design. I bought a silver color for 6990 rubles. I've been messing around with it for three years now and not a single button has worn off. The photo comes out better than on a digital camera for 6,000 rubles. I dropped it about 100 times and there were only scratches on the body.

    What I didn't like

As I understand it, there is no way to remove the front panel, therefore it cannot be changed. Also, on the very first day of operation it was discovered dead pixel(the blue color has faded) - not very noticeable, because The screen resolution is large.

    What I didn't like

I put my photos taken with an 8MP camera into my camera. No clarity. Nokia 5130 can enlarge received photos up to 4 times, Sony K770i model only enlarges photos taken with its 3MP camera. The lack of clarity in the photos was just annoying. The Nokia 5130 has simply perfect clarity of 8MP photos. The player does not read tags; instead of the title and artist, it writes hieroglyphs. Does not show the total playing time of the song. The sound volume is not displayed on the screen all the time, only when pressed. You can't just adjust the volume - it writes the status of the phone. Enter volume only from the player or after connecting headphones. The headphones are really big for the ears. The clothespin is small and inconvenient to attach to clothes. In alarm clocks, the bug changes the set melody to its standard one whenever it wants. After turning off the signal, he writes that the signal will be repeated, also whenever he wants. The alarm clock is screaming loudly throughout the entire apartment without the possibility of settings. There are no minute repeat settings - set to 9 minutes. The internet button next to the calls is constantly pressed. I've only had the phone for 8 days... I already got it. They don't let you change it. Camera settings are not needed. It takes good pictures on automatic. This is a phone, not a camera.

    What I liked

Nothing special. The camera has a macro mode - this may come in handy.

    What I didn't like

The disadvantages are, in my opinion - Terrible video quality ((and the fact that the back cover is wobbly... I can’t stand it))) And by the way, I expected more from the speaker...

    What I liked

The first and most important advantage is the camera. I have never seen more accurate pictures taken from a phone. Another plus inherent in all SE is its user-friendly interface. The flashlight also helped out more than once)) There are also a bunch of nice things, but there’s not enough space to list them)) And the price is incredible))

    What I didn't like

Not smart - somehow essentially. Maybe this is a feature of all soniers, I don’t know. There is no reset button, if you go deep into the menu, you have to press the Back button ten times to get to the desktop, or hold it for a few seconds, which is annoying. If you enter a word unfamiliar to him in T9, he will also put up a sign that the word is not in the dictionary, you wait 3 seconds until it disappears. To set the alarm, you have to confirm it twice, I’ve already overslept a couple of times because of this, because I was sleepy in the evening and set the time, pressed OK, but forgot about Save. There are no such functions or little things by which you can see that they took care of you.

    What I liked

I've been using it for over a year, nothing has broken or worn out, it works well.

    What I didn't like

The screen is 1.9 inches, but for taking photographs while listening to music for the Internet and for all sorts of different applications, this is enough.

    What I liked

A very stylish 3G phone with a wonderful Cyber-Shot camera. The phone takes amazing (for a phone) pictures, at least it can replace a regular point-and-shoot camera during a trip or vacation, or even at home.

    What I didn't like

The screen blurs, but does not scratch
There was a problem (it seemed to have disappeared on its own) - after turning it off it wouldn’t turn on, I had to remove the back cover (though it can be removed very conveniently), and sometimes take out the battery.

    What I liked

High resolution for such a small screen 320x240 Large convenient buttons Stylish look Unpainted body (does not peel off) convenient recessed active camera shutter Excellent camera with autofocus (two-position button like on cameras) see photo http://fotki.yandex.ru/users/teimour/ view/204114?page=0 Mail, Java (several applications at the same time) work fine. Convenient PC Suite for synchronizing with MS Outlook, transferring files and accessing the Internet. Excellent combination of price and quality

    What I didn't like

Inconvenient buttons! Quiet speaker. Fragile (I broke it this week). Headphones SUCKS. The switch button is inconvenient. Hangs with a 2 GB flash drive. The Internet is also STUPID. There is ONE headphone jack for both charging and USB!!! Rear The cover can only be opened with a knife (ladies! you will break all your nails!!!) The keychain is in the most inconvenient place. When sand gets on the phone, the rear camera opener begins to open tightly. It gets scratched quickly!

    What I liked

Firstly, the camera. The phone is also very stylish. The battery lasts more than 2 days.

    What I didn't like

    but in winter..
due to the metal bar opening the camera
    he just passes out(((
Apparently the cold is cooling this bar
    it cools the battery
    and that's all
The display says insert SIM card
    or the screen goes blank
    and the keys are lit
I have to take out the battery
and warm it and the phone
and the winters are harsh now((((

    What I liked

In general, he suits me. in the warm season.

    What I didn't like

there are no serious ones: the headset is simple but exceeded my expectations - it sounds good, and you can buy Volman from us for about 700 rubles, and the Chinese one costs 200 rubles.

We have talked about expanding the range of Sony Ericsson's product line more than once, and each time, in fact, we described the same situation. It is now very important for companies to create the widest possible range of devices, each of which has one or another advantage over its neighboring product, but does not become a bestseller that overshadows all other products. As you know, since 2007 the company has had another round of phones with a similar ideology. These are emotional products, distinguished by both external design and developed display systems. In the first stage, the market demand for such devices was tested on AI, which received the commercial name W880i. The phone turned out to be very successful, because it offered the market all the advantages mobile phones Sony Ericsson (powerful software platform with a user-friendly interface) coupled with an attractive design. At the same time, a much more complete version of the image idea was created in parallel, which received the T650i index. It would seem that the phones have similar characteristics, and the T650i is a good AI replacement, but it's not that simple. The company took the quantitative route and did what they do better than others on the market. They took the T650i, which has a more than good camera, improved the ergonomics by removing steel as a body material and launched it on the market as the K770i - a phone for those who need an autofocus camera and a classic keyboard, but do not need to overpay for a steel body and protective glass screen. It would seem like a classic of the genre, but the phone turned out to be not as simple and straightforward as it seems at first glance, and the reason for this is the enormous work of the company’s designers, who created a device that is truly interesting in appearance. However, let's not talk idle talk, but let's get straight to the point, or rather to the K770i - the phone to which we dedicated a piece of the T650i review, but it deserves much more.

The phone is made in a candy bar form factor with dimensions of 104.8 x 46.7 x 14.6 mm, which, given the considerable weight of 95g. allows you to carry the device mainly in the pockets of outerwear appropriate for the autumn-winter season. In the breast pocket of a shirt or light training pants, the weight is clearly felt, although it does not pull down the pocket like a pocket. Unlike its fashionable brother, the K770i body is made entirely of plastic, however, the massive steel chassis of one of the body elements eloquently explains the identical weight to the T650i.

The phone fits comfortably in the hand, largely thanks to the smooth curve of the back surface and the extremely small number of glossy parts of the body, with the exception of the glossy overlay around the screen, in the upper part of which there is a narrow hole slot. conversational dynamics.

To the left of it is the lens of an additional QCIF camera for video calls. On the right is the light sensor eye, which is used only to activate the flash in photography mode. The display itself is covered with another protective plastic, reminiscent of the glass on the T650i, but our little experiment with trying to scratch it with a regular utility knife ended in a scratch, unlike unsuccessful attempts with the T650i's glass. The screen itself has not undergone any changes. The same 1.9-inch TFT matrix with a resolution of 240x320 pixels, displaying up to 262 thousand colors. The picture quality is good, the clarity is more than good.

Unfortunately, we didn't have other phones with a similar screen at hand to make comparison pictures, and comparisons with screens with large grain are simply incorrect. As an option, here is a comparative photo with a screen that is 15-20% brighter than the K770i. Otherwise, the same epithets can be applied to the screen: excellent picture sharpness, wide viewing angles, good behavior in the sun, largely due to the protective “glass”, which is not prone to the formation of small scratches.

The keyboard unit speaks directly to what we said in our T650i review. The navigation block consists of pairs of soft keys with a return and delete button C. Together they form a wide horizontal stripe with a large groove inside. Along the edges are two convex keys for launching the WEB browser and the Activity Menu. In general, despite the average size, the keys are very convenient to work with, and accidental clicks on adjacent buttons, if possible, are sporadic. The navigation key is inscribed in the center of this entire idyll. It rises slightly above the rest of the block, and the inscribed OK button, thanks to its concave relief and small size, allows you to conveniently navigate through various menu items without discomfort or false clicks at all. Before passing a verdict regarding the convenience of the entire keyboard, I would like to say a few words about the number pad. Narrow horizontal rows of keys are located at a great distance from each other, and in width they occupy the entire surface of the case. The tactility of the horizontal rows is excellent, and the vertical rows of keys are easy to distinguish due to the width of each of them. The keys have a medium travel and a clear click with a classic mechanical sound. The last thing I would like to mention is the uniform white backlighting of the entire keyboard unit.

Is the keyboard generally comfortable? Not the right word, it is one of the most ergonomic among all the phones that I had the opportunity to test during the entire period of work of your humble servant. What can it be compared to in terms of comfort? With, perhaps, although opposite opinions, different from those stated above, are also possible.

Fortunately, experiments with stickers under the keyboard bypassed the K770i, as a result, the name of the sub-brand is an ordinary inscription on the case. Along all ends of the body there is a narrow dented silver strip of the frame, into which several elements are organically inscribed.

On the left side of the case there is a classic Fast Port connector for connecting all wired peripherals, from the charger to the headset.

On the right side there is a small volume rocker, characterized by mediocre tactility and uncomfortable pressing with a tight movement deep into the body. It is inconvenient to work with her, because... Often you have to peer at the screen to understand whether the press worked or not. The focus/shutter key is equally inconvenient to use. If the initial press that starts autofocus does not cause any complaints, then pressing the shutter itself can waste a lot of your nerves.

At the bottom end, next to the silver edging, there is a microphone hole, as well as two holes for the strap loop, the fastening of which we will mention a little later.

The top end is notable for its miniature on/off key, which also allows you to change the active profile, as well as a wide slider for the latch of the battery compartment cover, the role of which is played by the entire rear panel.

It is primarily notable for having one of the best camera shutters on the market. The role of a curtain, located flush with the body, is a long metal strip, slightly less than two centimeters wide. It is equipped with an automatic closing mechanism with a characteristic click when opening. It is convenient to use in all situations, except, perhaps, when wearing thick gloves. To the left of the curtain there is a small mirror for self-portraits, as well as LED lamp backlight, which has two operating voltages, and, accordingly, the brightness of the glow. What’s noteworthy is that just below the middle of the case, across the rear panel, there are two more narrow LEDs that light up blue when the curtain is opened.

Light experiments continue on the keyboard block, where the edges of the left and right rows of keys begin to glow. We saw a similar move in, however, the right (top) row of keys was not highlighted there, and the backlight did not change its color. Closer to the bottom edge of the case there is a polyphonic speaker hole, consisting of five small slits.

As we have already written above, the main element of fastening the back cover is a latch on the upper end, which has only one fixed position. To remove the cover, you need to pull the slider all the way, and then lift the cover at the edges.

Under the cover we see an arrangement of elements almost identical to the T650i, with the exception of the aforementioned LEDs and two contacts that act as a camera activator, with the right one activating the camera only when the left contact is open. Immediately below the camera block there is a compartment for a BST-38 lithium polymer battery with a capacity of 930 mAh. It lasts for two to three days of work, depending on the intensity of the load.

After removing the battery, it becomes possible to remove, or vice versa, install the SIM card in a slot that does not have any latches. Near interface connector There is a slot for M2 memory cards.

The slot has a travel limiter that prevents cards from being fired using a powerful locking spring. Considering the miniature size of the cards, the decision is justified. The last thing I would like to mention, with the exception of the connector for the external antenna under the service sticker, is a fragile little tooth on which the strap is hung.
Comparison photo with the 6500 Classic, located in the same price segment as the K770i.

    Interface

In standby mode, the screen has a top line of indicators for signal reception level, GPRS/3G connection activity, missed calls, unread messages, Bluetooth activation, as well as a battery charge level indicator. More detailed information about the percentage charge level can be viewed by pressing the volume key. The amount of free memory, the signature of the base station (BS), the active profile, as well as the name of the model are also displayed there. The meaning of the last point is unclear to the author to this day.

Under the line of icons the name of the operator is displayed, under which there is also a BS signature. Further, at the discretion of the owner, you can enable the display of a digital clock either on a third of the screen or in the form of a small inscription similar in size to the date display. Opposite the date there is an empty space that can be occupied, for example, by a timer counter. The lower part, naturally, is occupied by a line of labels for soft keys. The inscriptions are very large, and bold font is used.

Also, in standby mode, you can assign the launch of most built-in functions to deviations of the navigation key.

The internet key is used to launch the Net front WEB browser.

Directly opposite is the activity menu launch key, whose capabilities include the same display of events in the first tab, a manager for working with running applications, a list of links to built-in functions added by the user, as well as a list of browser bookmarks.

Regarding the standby mode, I would like to note the lack of support for Flash - themes and swf screensavers, but the possibility of full-screen display of background jpeg, gif images has not disappeared.

To enter the main menu, you need to press the central navigation key, or use the right soft key. The main menu is invariably presented in the form of 12 high-quality animated icons arranged in a 3x4 matrix. There is digital navigation at all points. Submenus are presented in the form of vertical lists, equipped, in most cases, with horizontal bookmarks, which allow you to quickly navigate through various types sorting items.

    Call service

As before, the phone's phone book can hold up to 1,000 contacts, which can contain up to 2,500 phone numbers. Navigation through the lists can only be done using a letter search by the subscriber's name. If several numbers are associated with a contact, they can be viewed by horizontal deflections of the navigation key.

Each contact can be assigned a name, four phone numbers (mobile, home, work, other), E-mail address, web page, home address, as well as places of work. You can associate any picture or video with the subscriber, displayed on half the screen during incoming call, an individual ringtone, as well as a text note, and, perhaps, a birthday reminder.

Call lists still shine with a limit of 30 displayed entries. Moreover, the restriction applies not only to received, dialed and missed calls, but also to display en masse.

    Messages

There is a good tool for creating SMS/EMS messages. As before, it is possible to display emoticons as pictures. As before, the size limit for the created message is 594 characters in Cyrillic and 1188 characters in Latin.

The MMS service has also not undergone any changes over the past year, since its release. This is a visually pleasing interface for complex message composition, up to 300 kb in size. You can add existing audio, photos, video materials, or directly launch the tools for creating them (camera, voice recorder).

The email client will be useful to everyone whose provider is different from mail.ru. In this case, a new account is created and given a name. A nice fact is the ability to send a service SMS to your phone with settings account. To do this, just go to the support page.

And fill out a short form, after which, within 10 seconds, a message will be sent to your chosen phone number with an offer to set up the account you have configured.

Regarding the Cyrillic alphabet in the headings, it can be noted that the majority of messages received by the author are displayed correctly. All attachments can be saved to the phone's memory - this is a definite plus.

    Organizer

Let's briefly go through the organizer's capabilities.

First of all, it is a functional alarm clock that allows you to create up to five alerts. Each alarm can be configured by trigger time and alert days. It is also possible to set an individual call signal or radio. A nice addition is the ability to rename the name (instead of “alarm clock 03” you can write “it’s time for lunch,” for example), as well as setting a picture of the alarm clock (since we’re talking about lunch, let’s give an example with a bowl of soup).

    Calendar

Two types of display: month display, or week table, with an hourly schedule for each day. By pointing at the desired day of the week, you can quickly create a reminder. Reminders also shine with a wide degree of customization. You can set a custom name, start time, duration, notification 5-30 minutes in advance. before starting, set the specifics of the reminder repeat (daily, weekly, monthly, annually) and add information about the location of the event. For dessert, you can add a short description of the event. As you can see, reminders, if not ideal, are as close as possible to such, considering that this is not a separate organizer, but one of the functions of a mobile phone.

    Notes

Ordinary text notes. The length of each cannot exceed 254 characters.

    Timer

Ordinary timer. You set the time, accurate to the second, and admire the report in standby mode.

Stopwatch allows you to create up to 9 intermediate values.

Calculator notable for its ability to extract the root of a number.

The code memo is interesting only by its presence as such. Otherwise, the four-digit password most eloquently indicates the seriousness of these closed notes.

    Memory, file manager

The phone has about 16 MB of built-in memory, which is clearly insufficient for full work with the multimedia component of the phone. Partly, the situation is saved by the presence of a slot for memory stick M2 memory cards. In order to emphasize the price of the device, the manufacturer announced support for memory cards up to 2 GB, although, frankly speaking, all the company’s current phones work reliably with no more than 1 GB. Using 2 GB or 4 GB memory cards can lead to long delays, primarily in the file manager, which we will discuss in more detail.

The file manager is a fairly convenient tool for viewing the contents of the phone's memory array. It is possible to quickly change the displayed memory using horizontal movements in the root area.

In the case of the file manager, we will describe only the most interesting points.

    Videos, images

All saved pictures, gif animations, and videos are sorted into these folders. Among the features, we note the ability to change the display of files between the classic 3 x 3 matrix, the innovative 5 x 5 style, a list with an icon and brief information(as in Nokia devices), and also simple list with one title displayed. In the case of video, it is worth noting the ability to view videos at a frequency of 30 fps. A nice feature is the ability to set video as a ringtone, both for all contacts and for a selected one.

    Camera album

A tool for viewing photos/videos received from the phone’s built-in camera. A kind of timeline has been added to the above-mentioned display styles (timeline, in the case of a localized interface). The interface of the new view is quite simple: by vertically pressing the navigation key you switch between the top scroll bar view (by month or by day), to move through the photos you need to press the left soft key.

While viewing files, you can quickly call up a photo and video editor, which allows you to change the brightness/contrast, color effects, apply appliqués or frames, and also cut out the required area of the image. True, to cut out the desired section of the frame, it is enough to use the usual landscape view, where the volume rocker allows you to scale the image from 1x to 2 in steps of 0.2, 0.5, and then in steps of 1 up to 32x. It is somehow inappropriate to talk about the presence of symbolic viewing of photos in slide show mode - this is common automatic switching photos every three seconds. In comparison with a similar function in phones on the SE A2 platform or smartphones, there is simply no slide show.

From general features file manager We note support for DRM 1.0, which is not used in the case of pre-installed multimedia content. As before, unprotected files can be transferred via Bluetooth either individually or all selected ones. You can create subfolders of any level within folders.

    Communications

The phone does not have an IR port, which does not seem to be a particular disadvantage. But Bluetooth 2.0 has not gone away, supporting most profiles, with the exception of direct access to file system, with administrator rights to create and delete files and folders.

The average data transfer speed is 70-100 kb/s.

    Games, applications

The phone comes pre-installed with two games from the same manufacturer - the Digital Chocolate studio, which develops pre-installed content for most of the company's latest models.

The first game is Foto Quest Fishing. The essence of the game is simple: there is a moving camera viewfinder and a body of water with all kinds of fish. Your task is to create maximum amount photographs showing as many fish as possible. The more living creatures in the frame, the more points you get for it.

The second game is a collection of four solitaire games. Fortunately, there is also a classic scarf, although the game is clearly designed for screens with lower resolutions, so seeing the symbols on the cards is akin to a separate game that tests the vigilance of your eyes up close.

The app section has a time-tested app for cheering up everyone except the self-deprecating people whose face you're photographing. We're talking about Face Warp. In a nutshell, the program works on the principle of applying volumetric effects to any image, be it a newly received photograph or any other picture from memory.

The second application is a kind of tutorial on using photo services on your phone - Photo Mate. Initially, there are descriptions for shooting at night and creating portraits. Other tips for working with the camera are available only after downloading. In general, this is a necessary thing, given that the camera interface has a large number of settings, and autofocus expands the scope of its application.

    Music

The phone has a Walkman 1.4 software player, familiar to us from the , . Classic sorting by artists, playlists, as well as display full list tracks.

In playback mode, traditionally, you can switch songs by long pressing the volume key. The sound settings include extended stereo and a 5-band equalizer with manual adjustment.

In terms of sound quality, there is a pleasant improvement, even compared to the W910i, which is a music-oriented product. Unlike other phones from the company, there is no classic disease - the inability to output a rich audio path, caused by the operation of a software overload suppressor in inexpensive headphones. The volume does not lag behind either - 80-90% can be called a comfortable value, while the maximum volume is enough for listening in the subway using the headphones from the Hpm 82 set.

The phone also has an FM receiver that supports automatic search for stations and output of RDS information. Each of the active stations can be saved into one of 20 memory locations. The sound volume is 10-15% higher than in the player.

    Camera

The most interesting feature of the device is the built-in 3.2-megapixel camera equipped with autofocus. I would immediately like to highlight several differences from the similar camera installed in the K790i.

Table of approximate characteristics of camera modules.

This table reveals only the most significant differences between the cameras of the devices.

Regarding the interface for working with the camera, it is worth noting the traditionally intuitive interface, which allows you to quickly change a wide range of shooting settings.

I would like to note the work of the full-screen viewfinder. Indoors, the frame rate is around 10 Fps, while in sunlight this figure rises to a comfortable 24-30 Fps. Still, it’s not often that you come across phones that allow you to compose a picture so comfortably.
