Firmware sa. How to flash a Samsung phone: flashing methods. Installation of individual software components

First, let's define what phone firmware is. This is what software and hardware settings are called. In general, this is even more than the operating system on your computer - Windows OS is developed for all devices, and firmware is developed specifically for a line or a specific model.

There are official and custom firmware... but let's take it in order. For specific examples we will take Samsung Galaxy S3, although on other smartphones everything is done in much the same way.

Why change the firmware at all?

The most logical and common answer is because the developer released an OS update for the phone. There are also more complex cases - when the developer does not release anything, but the user decides to install “gray” firmware. We'll talk about them too.

Official Android firmware

Almost everything happens automatically. You will need the following:

1. Go to “Settings” and select “Allow automatic update operating system." On Samsung Galaxy, this option is located in the About device section;

2. Click “Yes” when you receive a notification like this: “An Android update has been released for Samsung Galaxy. Should I update my device?

3. You can also update manually. To do this, go to “Settings” > “About device” > “Software update”.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Charge your phone before flashing! It is better to start this process when the battery is 100% charged, otherwise it may break.

IMPORTANT NOTE #2: Please note that the system downloads an average of 300 MB for updating. It is better to update via Wi-Fi, with unlimited traffic.

IMPORTANT NOTE #3: Before flashing the firmware, be sure to back up all your data.

As a rule, with Android update There are no problems with Wi-Fi. However, sometimes crashes occur, and therefore advanced users prefer to update through official programs from the developers. Samsung has it Samsung Kies(something like iTunes) – this program can be downloaded from the company's official website.

Then everything is simple:

– Install Samsung Kies on your computer and connect your smartphone to it via USB – the program will recognize it automatically;

– Click on the “Update Software” button (if there is an official update);

– Wait for the download to complete and click “Confirm”.

One more tip. Some people update the official Android using the Odin program. This is not worth doing, because Odin is an UNOFFICIAL application, and by using it, you automatically remove the phone from warranty. Only Kies - if you have a Samsung device - or other official utilities if you have a smartphone from another manufacturer.

Gray Android firmware

Very often we buy new phone– and suddenly it turns out that it doesn’t work perfectly. Something slows down, bugs somewhere irritate - usually because the developer was in a hurry and forced sales. I would like to fix all this, but there is no official update from the manufacturer.

Another case. You have a phone of a previous model - say, Samsung Galaxy S3. And then the Galaxy S4 comes out, with a lot of new features. You can’t officially update, but you want to get new chips...

And here gray firmware comes to the rescue, it’s custom, it’s unofficial, it’s pirated - made not by the manufacturer, but by users. What is the point of installing it? In fact, there are many reasons to install custom firmware:

– access to the latest version of Android, even if the developer did not plan it;

– process optimization – for example, forced removal from random access memory programs that load the system but do not bring any benefit;

– a lot of options for customizing the interface;

– acceleration of work (its own core to improve performance);

– and much more, depending on the gray firmware version.

But everywhere has its drawbacks, and cunning manipulations with operating system often lead to disastrous consequences:

– custom firmware removes the phone’s warranty – think 10 times if you recently purchased a gadget;

– the emergence of new functions and expanded capabilities is often accompanied by bugs;

– there are failures – the firmware is not installed, and the smartphone turns into a “brick”.

Sometimes you can revive it yourself, but most often you have to take it to a service center (repair, of course, will not be guaranteed).

The author of this article has already “killed” his phone unofficial firmware. A very good engineer was able to bring him back to life. By the way, if you need something repaired, I highly recommend the “We’ll Fix Everything” service center.

However, not everything is so scary. Gray firmware can be of very high quality, especially from CyanogenMod or MIUI. In addition, the Android community helps the unfortunate to cope with trouble - go to any specialized forum, describe the problem, and they will give you 10 pages of advice.

How to install custom firmware?

Let's look at the Galaxy S3 as an example:

– first of all, select the firmware, download it to your computer and unzip it;

– download the Odin program, install, open it and check the boxes for Auto Reboot, F.Reset Time and PDA;

– in the PDA, select the desired firmware version;

– dial *2767*3855# (command to clear memory) on your phone and turn it off;

– switch the device to Download mode: Volume Down > Home > Power ON/OFF (text about entering download mode should appear);

– connect the phone to the computer via USB and press START;

– after some time, a highlighted PASS message will appear in Odin, followed by the message: RES OK! Removed! Completed. All threads completed;

– reboot the device;

– Odin detects the COM port, click “Next”.

If everything ended successfully, congratulations; if not, we warned you.

It is better to install ONLY official updates.

Gray firmware is usually used by people whose phone is outdated - just to get features modern gadgets. Instead of resorting to such tricks, take a closer look at yourself powerful phone, which will be supported by the manufacturer, and not by enthusiasts. For example, with it people completely forget what custom firmware is.

And one last piece of advice regarding Android firmware: if you have a new phone from a reputable company, wait for the official update. Craftsmen have been polishing their creations for years, and while there is reliable firmware for old devices, it is extremely unlikely for new ones.

Before flashing the SAMSUNG GT-S5230, I will tell you a little about this device. I have come across only three varieties of GT-S5230 - the basic model, GT-S5230W - with a WI-FI module and GT-S5230 LaFleur (no comments here).

The cellular telephone was launched into the market as a workhorse with a budget touch display. In its segment, this is one of the cheapest devices from Koreans (SAMSUNG) and quite popular (it is still on display at retailers). From the perspective of the average person, the phone is very easy to use, intuitive, and on average the battery lasts for two days of intensive use.

If this model is handled correctly and carefully, it will not be demolished, but sooner or later the touch panel will fail due to its cheapness. Although in fairness, it changes in five minutes and even a child can cope with this task, all you need is a cross-type screwdriver, a picker and straight hands growing from the right place. The quality of communication is at a decent level.

There were no serious problems when using this app, it was just very annoying quiet speaker, the call was not always heard, especially when the phone was in a jeans pocket. Once a software error occurred (BOOT crashed) due to which the app stopped loading, but this did not become a serious problem. So let's get started already.

ATTENTION!!! Before you start updating software, rooting, resetting settings and other manipulations with your own or, God forbid, someone else’s device HIGHLY RECOMMEND read this one. In short, you have been warned and don’t say later that this is the first time you’ve heard this.

What you need to flash SAMSUNG GT-S5230

Naturally the phone itself

The most important thing here is to check the system connector; if it is damaged, or traces of corrosion are visible (after liquid ingress - a very common case), or it is simply dirty (try cleaning it with a regular toothbrush), then most likely the phone will not be detected by the computer and it will not be possible to change the software. If the app does not show signs of life (does not respond to the power button, does not enter boot mode when the battery is charged), then you should not try to flash such a phone, since the reason for its inoperability is not in the software.

Charged battery

When flashing the firmware, the battery must be charged at least 50%; if the battery is discharged during the process, you can kill the app and its functionality cannot be restored without special equipment.

Drivers

In order for the phone to be identified in the OS, you need to install New PC Studio. During installation of this product All the necessary drivers will be installed, and with the help of New PC Studio you can save all the necessary information from your phone to your PC and back. Latest version You can download this software completely free of charge from the official SAMSUNG website. Or try installing this one.

Cable

The necessary cable for changing the software is included with the phone itself.

We continue the topic of experimenting with my new phone. From the experience of using routers and other equipment, I have developed a strong habit - first of all, update their “brains”. The thing is that from the moment the device leaves the factory until it falls into your hands, more than one month may pass, and during this time its firmware could undergo significant changes and open up wider possibilities for use for the user. And today we will clearly check how to flash a Samsung phone on Android 4.4 and how safe is it to do it yourself?

Ways to flash a Samsung phone on Android 4.4

There are several ways to flash an Android phone. The first is directly from him through the system. On my Samsung there was Android version 4.4, in it, if you go to the “Settings > Phone information > Software update” section, you can configure automatic checking of new firmware for your model. To do this, check the “Auto-update” box. I also recommend activating the “Wi-Fi Only” item, in this case the availability new version will only be checked when the phone is connected to wireless network, otherwise you will constantly waste your mobile traffic through mobile operator, which is fraught with loss of money.

The scan can be started manually by clicking on “Update”.

Firmware Samsung phone on Android, like any other, you can start only with a 100% charged battery

However this option updates Samsung firmware Galaxy is not entirely comfortable and can break down in the middle, as happened to me. Therefore, I recommend performing this task using special program installed on the computer, and when connected to it via USB cable phone.

There are also variations here - you can do it using the official Samsung Kies program, or you can use the popular Odin or its equivalent. In the latter case, it is possible to use both official firmware for Samsung phones on Android, as well as from third-party developers, which are often more convenient and open up wider possibilities for the phone, but it does not cover the factory warranty. Therefore, it is recommended to install third-party firmware only after the warranty period has expired.

How to officially flash a Samsung phone on Android?

So, let's start figuring out how to flash Android using the Samsung update as an example, and turn to the Samsung Kies program, which can be downloaded here. By the way, it was created by analogy with Apple's iTunes and with its help you can completely synchronize your phone with your PC - contacts, files, music, etc.

Before you start updating the Samsung firmware on new Android, it is recommended to make a backup copy using your phone or via Kies to avoid possible data loss

First we install the program. At the same time, drivers for all kinds of devices from this company will be added to the computer, including yours. We launch it, connect the phone to the computer via USB and wait until it is recognized.
Next, after a window opens with all the basic data about your phone, select “Firmware update” and if it is available, this will be reported in an additional window that opens.

Click the “Update” button, agree to the rules and confirm our desire. And we wait for the end.. Do not touch the phone during this time and under no circumstances disconnect it from the cable from the computer. By the way, I don’t recommend leaving for a long time either, since your antivirus or firewall may crash a couple of times, in which you will need to allow Kies to perform its functions. Also disable the antivirus on the mobile phone itself, otherwise it will not allow the system to update.

As a result, we get this and confirm the end of the software update.

Updating Android Firmware on Samsung Phone via Odin

Now let's turn to the “gray” firmware. I suggest you watch the step-by-step video first, and then we’ll continue.

First of all, you need to put the phone into download mode (“Downloading”), which is done by simultaneously pressing the key combination “Home”, “Power” and “Volume minus” (or “Volume plus” depending on the model). If done correctly, the Android logo and an inscription about boot mode will appear on the screen.

Next, download and install the Odin MultiDownloader program (you can easily find it on any thematic site or Google it in a search engine) - this is a professional program intended for service centers, so you don’t have to be scared, if you do everything correctly in it, then nothing bad will happen to your phone.

And you will also need the firmware files that you downloaded from the official website or any third-party firmware support forum. As a rule, there are four of them - PDA, the main firmware file; PHONE, which is responsible for working with the cellular operator’s network; CSC - phone settings; and PIT - service information storage. Make sure they are all included in the set. However, there are also single-file versions, in which case it will need to be imported in place of the main one - PDA.

If you are working on a computer that has Windows system 7 and above, then this will be enough. If you have XP, then you will definitely have to install the Kies program that we have already disassembled, which will install drivers for your Windows Android phone, or separately the firewood itself - Samsung USB Driver for Mobile Phones. On the same site you can also select firewood specifically for your model and version of the computer OS.

Now you must first of all kill all Kies processes if you installed and launched it. To do this, press the key combination Ctrl+Alt+Del on your computer and look for processes that have the word “Kies” in their names. And we complete them. Then we launch Odin - our smartphone is already in download mode - connect it via a USB cable and press the “Volume Up” button (in relation to the Samsung Galaxy S2).

Now you can start updating the software.

In the Odin program, one (first) ID:COM section should be displayed in yellow (there are several of them for simultaneous work with several phones). In the program, check the boxes for “Re-Partition”, “Autoreboot” and “F.Reset Time”.

Now press the “Start” button and wait for the process to complete until the process graph reaches the end, lights up green and the word “Pass” appears.

After this, the phone will reboot and start working on the new software version. Additionally, you can use the *#1234# command to check the current version. You can also do a complete clearing of all data using service code *2767*3855#.

That's it for Samsung phone firmware Android based OS is complete, thank you all for your attention!

Users of Samsung smartphones based on the Android operating system often encounter problems when the phone starts to glitch and freeze. Similar problems usually arise due to the installation of unlicensed and third-party software that helps “kill” the system. In some cases, the smartphone begins to take on a life of its own due to viruses that can get onto the device from third-party media (flash cards and computers) and when connected to the Internet.

The best solution to the situation would be to reflash the smartphone. But official service centers most often they refuse warranty service (and have every right to do so), while demanding to pay for the work. Since the service is not cheap, many users can independently try to bring their smartphone back to life. This article will provide information about using Odin, the most popular official program for updating the firmware.

Beginning of work

The first step towards success in a difficult task is preparation for the process. You need to make sure that the smartphone battery is charged at least 80 percent (it is better if the battery is fully charged). Also, to understand how to flash via Odin, you need to download the program itself to your personal computer. In this case, the operating system installed on the PC must be at least Windows XP.

You will definitely need the firmware itself (it can be single-file or multi-file), and ADB drivers, which can be downloaded from specialized sites. Once it is clear that all conditions have been met, the process can begin.

Installing drivers

One of the key points that must be completed before flashing via Odin is installing the necessary drivers for the smartphone. All you need to do is download the installer file and run it (preferably as an administrator).

There are times when drivers are already installed on the PC. To make sure everything goes as expected, it's worth checking your system for older versions. If you find outdated drivers you should remove them and install the newest ones.

Loading the smartphone into Downloading mode

How to flash Samsung via Odin? Easily! The first thing you need to do directly with your smartphone is to launch it in Downloading mode. But before that, you should make sure that everything necessary information from the smartphone was saved before the firmware update, since after it the device will turn on “like new” and there will be no information on it.

If the device does not turn on, do not despair. With the gadget turned off, you need to hold down the “Volume -”, “Home” and “On/Off” buttons together. As soon as the screen asks you to confirm the action, you need to press the “Volume +” button. After this, an image of an android robot and the inscription Downloading will appear on the screen. We connect the smartphone via a USB cable to the PC, and the necessary actions with the smartphone are completed.

First launch of Odin

Now the moment of the firmware process has come. You should approach this with great responsibility and re-read the entire instructions again. If something goes wrong, you can get a so-called “brick”, and restoring the smartphone will cost a lot of money or will become completely impossible.

Therefore, before flashing via Odin, you need to understand the program itself. To do this, you must first unpack the archive directly from Odin to any convenient location on your hard drive, and then run the Odin.exe file. So, in the interface menu you can see a lot of incomprehensible buttons and words. But don't be afraid of this. In order to learn how to flash via Odin, you only need to know what firmware is available.

How to flash Android via Odin

If the firmware consists of only one file, all you need to do is press the PDA button and in the window that opens, select the location of that same firmware file.

Otherwise, having a firmware of three files, you should select the largest file in the PDA line (it contains the word CODE), in the PHONE line - a file containing the word PHONE in the name, in the CSC line - accordingly, the file with keyword C.S.C.

After these manipulations, you should make sure that the Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time checkboxes are checked. You need to remember that under no circumstances should there be a checkmark next to the words Re-Partition, as this can turn the device into a “brick”!

Other lines and checkboxes are needed for more advanced users and those who develop so-called custom firmware versions for smartphones, so the best solution would be not to experiment with the above-mentioned functions. Next, you need to click on the Start button, and the firmware process will begin.

During firmware

During the firmware process, you need to make sure that the PC does not suddenly turn off or freeze, as this can lead to disastrous consequences for the smartphone. Also, do not unplug the USB cable or press any buttons.

Just? It turns out that yes. After all, in order to understand how to flash via Odin samsung smartphone, no special skills or knowledge is required. The most important thing is to make sure that the firmware process has reached its final stage and the loading bar has reached 100%. After this, the smartphone will reboot on its own and turn on in setup mode, as if it was unpacked and launched for the first time.

With the right step-by-step setup The phone will boot into normal mode and begin to function freely. All file system will be updated, no data from the previous firmware will remain. Therefore, once again you should pay attention to the point that talks about saving files on any convenient medium before the firmware process.

In general, I would like to say that almost everyone can cope with the task. But if you don’t have confidence in your PC and smartphone skills, then it’s better not to take risks. In such cases, it is often much more profitable to turn to specialists and get a 100% positive result. Therefore, before flashing a Samsung smartphone on Android via Odin, it is worth deciding whether there is a willingness to experiment with such manipulations.

The most important thing is to be confident in yourself and your abilities, and the rest should be left to the complex computational processes performed personal computer, operating system and software.
