New xiaomi mi max 2. Xiaomi Mi Max review: you won’t believe it, but I’m used to it

On the eve of the summer of 2017, Xiaomi presented the world with its new creation - Xiaomi Mi Max 2: a large 6.44-inch smartphone in an all-metal case with a record-breaking capacity battery th at 5300 mAh.

The device is a follow-up to the one launched a year ago, and the developers have one serious question: why did they release a device a year later that, in some respects, is seriously inferior to its predecessor?

Equipment

The contents of the package are painfully familiar to all Xiaomi users. In the box with a mobile device you can only find Charger, USB cable Type-C, documentation and a paper clip for opening the SIM card tray.

Design and ergonomics

Unlike its predecessor, Mi Max 2 received an all-metal back cover, which not only improved the appearance of the smartphone, but also made it more durable. At the same time, theoretically possible problem with signal reception quality cellular communications was solved by small antenna inserts at the bottom of the sides and on the top edge of the mobile device.

Comparing the new product with the Xiaomi Mi Max, you can notice that the position of the flash on the back of the device has changed. Now it is placed not on the right, but on the left of the camera. At the same time, the round fingerprint scanner remained in the same place as it was.

By the way, the world is divided into two camps: those who like the location of the scanner at the back under the index finger of the hand and those who like unlocking by pressing the scanner located under the display, as is implemented in Xiaomi Mi 5, Xiaomi Mi 6 and other smartphones of the Mi family.

On the front side, everything is as usual: on top is a proximity sensor, a front camera and a speaker grille.

Below them is a huge 6.44-inch display and three familiar navigation buttons (menu, home and back).

Metal volume keys and power buttons are placed under the thumb on the right side of the smartphone.

You can insert two SIM cards by opening the tray located on the left side. If desired, instead of sim1 you can install a microSD memory card.

As for the top edge, there is a “representative of an endangered species” on it: a 3.5 mm headphone port, a microphone for noise reduction and an infrared port, which allows you to control a huge number of modern household appliances using the application.

Port USB Type-C and two stereo speakers are located on the bottom edge of the smartphone.

In general, the Mi Max 2 smartphone looks quite stylish and attractive. Initially, the device was presented only in gold color, but since June 2017 Xiaomi version Mi Max 2 Black with a more universal black color scheme.

Display

The smartphone is equipped with a huge 6.44 display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. In terms of quality, it is not much different from its predecessor, but has a significantly smaller thickness of the black frame around it, which has changed from 1.5 to 0.7 mm.

In the smartphone settings, you can select and also adjust the color scheme for a more comfortable experience with your mobile device.

For those who want to operate their smartphone with one hand, there is a special mode that can be enabled in the system settings.

And even despite all the disadvantages related to the dimensions of the device, it also has a number of advantages:

  • convenience when working with text documents, tables and presentations
  • comfortable viewing of your favorite films and TV series
  • excellent replacement for car navigator

Performance

The Mi Max 2 smartphone is not a flagship, but it copes with its tasks perfectly. The device has a mid-level Snapdragon 625 processor coupled with 4 GB of RAM and, depending on the modification, 64 or 128 GB of internal memory. This is quite enough for comfortable installation and playthrough of most games, storing a large number of audio and video recordings.

In the AnTuTu test, the device scores 62,765 points.

Is it worth buying Xiaomi Mi Max 2?

Of course, if you are a big fan mobile devices, then Xiaomi Mi Max 2 will delight you with its screen and monolithic body. For everyone else, such a display diagonal may seem like overkill and daily use of a smartphone can become a real test. For owners of the first generation of the device, there is no particular point in changing the device - it is still the same smartphone, but with increased battery capacity and a slightly improved camera. Otherwise, this is an ordinary smartphone with modern technical characteristics, like most mid-range mobile devices. Xiaomi Mi Max 2 can be purchased now at a price of just over $300 (

At first glance at the Xiaomi Mi Max 2, with its 6.44-inch screen diagonal, the smartphone can be confused with a small tablet. This is the largest phablet on the market, which all fans of the first version of the giant have been waiting for. Was the sequel successful? Find out in our Xiaomi Mi Max 2 review.

Price and main characteristics

Smartphone with 64 GB internal memory will cost $245, the cost of the older version with 128 GB is $300.

Specifications:

Display: 6.44”, IPS FHD 1920*1080 px (342 ppi);
processor: Snapdragon 625 (2 GHz) + Adreno 506 video accelerator;
RAM: 4 GB;
internal memory: 64/128 GB + micro SDXC flash cards up to 256 GB;
camera: main – 12 MP, front – 5 MP;
communications: Wi-Fi, DLNA, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, A-GPS, NFC, GLONASS, LTE;
battery: 5300 mAh.
Dimensions: 174.1 x 88.7 x 7.6 mm;
Weight: 211 g.

A distinctive feature of the second model in the Max line is the presence of two stereo speakers on the front panel. The smartphone also received Android Nougat 7.0 under the proprietary MIUI 8 shell.

Equipment and appearance

The design of the Mi Max 2 box has remained virtually unchanged compared to its predecessor. She gained a little size and weight, but otherwise everything remained the same. This is still the traditional Xiaomi style packaging with a minimalist design. In addition to the phablet itself, inside there is a charging unit, a USB Type-C cable, a proprietary clip for unlocking the SIM card tray and documentation. The contents are hidden under a cardboard partition on which Mi Max 2 is located in a recess.

The body of the device is completely metal, it back panel got rid of ugly plastic inserts. The panel borders have acquired more rounded shapes that fit nicely in the palm. Despite its large size, it is quite possible to control the smartphone even on the go.

Main differences appearance the new products from Mi Max are hidden in the details. Xiaomi swapped several functional elements and used USB Type-C instead of a microUSB connector.

The second model in the line has also become a little thinner. Below the device's display are the usual backlit touch keys.

At the top of the front panel there is speaker, symmetrically surrounded by a 5-megapixel front camera and proximity/light sensor.

The volume rocker is located above the power button on the right side of the device. The keys have become a little more rounded and are noticeably more pleasant to press than those on the Mi Max.

The location of the SIM card tray has not changed; it can still be found on the left. A memory card with a capacity of up to 256 GB can take the place of one of the SIM cards.

The noise-canceling microphone, IR port and 3.5mm audio input are located on the top edge of the Mi Max 2.

The microUSB standard is gradually becoming a thing of history, so the smartphone has replaced it with Type-C. On the sides of the connector two mounting bolts and two perforations are visible. A multimedia speaker is hidden under one of them, and a microphone under the second.

At the back is a 12-megapixel camera module with flash and a fingerprint scanner. The latter did not change its position, but the lens and flash swapped places.

In the case of Mi Max 2, reproaches regarding the display size are inappropriate; Xiaomi managed to work out the ergonomics of the smartphone as successfully as possible. It came out pleasant to the touch, more durable than its predecessor and comfortable enough for all phablet fans. The new product has every chance of replacing the phone + tablet pair.

Screen

In the mobile technology market, the concept of the “golden mean” changes every year. If previously 4.7-inch screens were perceived as the maximum possible for comfortable use, now a device with a diagonal of more than six inches will not surprise anyone.

The Mi Max 2 display has not received significant improvements a year after the release of the first model in the line. FullHD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels is stretched over a fairly large area (6.44 inches). This ratio has a negative impact on the pixel density, which is only 342 units per inch. It is quite easy to distinguish “ladders” on the screen, which is clearly not a plus for the smartphone.

The only thing the developer has worked on is the display frame. The new product is 53% thinner than the Mi Max. But the picture began to invert when the phablet was tilted at a strong angle. If you tilt the Mi Max 2 to the side, the characteristic yellowish white color immediately catches your eye.

The phablet screen has received several useful functions. These include an eye protection mode and interactive color temperature adjustment. Soon the developers promise an update that will make it possible to use split screen in applications. For ease of operation with one hand, the main functional elements of the display are shifted to one corner.

Performance

The smartphone's hardware has become a big disappointment for many Xiaomi fans. Mi Max 2 did not receive the promised Snapdragon 660 and received the well-known 625 chipset. The buyer can choose from two options: 64 or 128 GB of internal memory + 4 GB of RAM. The Adreno 506 video accelerator is responsible for the graphics.

This choice of processor has positive and negative sides. Snapdragon 625 is slightly more energy efficient in older versions of the chipset. At the same time, he loses almost 20 thousand “parrots” in the Antutu 650 benchmark to the dragon. It turned out very strange, the already outdated smartphone is about 1/4 more powerful than the new product. So Mi Max owners better think about the feasibility of an upgrade before going to the store for a new device.

Camera

At the presentation of the phablet, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun announced the use of the Sony IMX386 photosensor in the device’s camera. It was already used before in Mi6 and showed pretty good results. The 12-megapixel main camera of Mi Max 2 with f/2.2 aperture has PDAP support and an algorithm for improved shooting in low light.

However, the speaker performs its immediate tasks perfectly. The interlocutor can be heard in any conditions, as well as missed incoming call With the loudly screaming Mi Max 2, you won't succeed even in a noisy place.

Battery

Mi Max 2 is equipped with a massive 5300 mAh battery. Paired with an energy-efficient processor, this is enough for one and a half to two days of active use of the smartphone. With continuous video playback at 50% screen brightness, the battery lasts almost 16 hours, and in gaming sessions it lasts for 6-7 hours - this is a very decent indicator for a 6.44-inch display.

The battery supports Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging, and you can also charge other smartphones from the MiMax using an OTG adapter. Fully charging the phablet takes 2 hours 24 minutes.

Communication and Internet

The smartphone has NFC chip for quick connection with other devices, Bluetooth standard 4.2 and excellent GPS module. The device easily finds the desired satellite and works stably with both GPS and GLONASS.

Mi Max 2 supports all necessary communication standards for comfortable use in the CIS. During the test, no communication problems were noticed during a conversation with the interlocutor.

Competitors

As an alternative, you can take a closer look at the Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra. It is more expensive, but has a large screen (6.8 inches) and a 23-megapixel main camera module.

Conclusion

Xiaomi Mi Max 2 looks quite attractive on paper. Its large screen could easily replace a tablet, and its excellent battery life only benefits the device. In reality, a large screen diagonal is a very specific indicator; if you have small hands, this smartphone is definitely not your choice.

The decision to use Snapdragon 625 instead of 660 is puzzling: Mi Max 2 turned out worse than its predecessor in terms of performance. So it’s not worth upgrading from Mi Max to it, but as an independent purchase, Mi Max 2 definitely deserves attention.

Pros:

Excellent build;
Long battery life;
Availability of functionality for one-handed control;
Low price.

Minuses:

Poor stereo sound;
“Yellowness” of the display;
Performance is worse than its predecessor.

If you forget about the diagonal, Mi Max does not stand out from the majority in appearance Chinese smartphones this and last season - like the others, it looks suspiciously like the iPhone 6.

In the upper left corner there is a camera lens and a dual flash, and a little lower in the center there is a fingerprint scanner. The latter works quickly and correctly, reaching for it is not very difficult. Unfortunately, it can’t do anything else besides unlock the screen, but for a smartphone costing 20 thousand rubles, this is normal.

The back panel is made of a single piece of aluminum (we got a version in gold, but there is also an all-black version), with neat plastic streaks-antennas to match the body, no more terrible plastic inserts on the top and bottom.

The pull-out SIM card tray is combined: one slot for micro-SIM, and the second for either nano-SIM or a memory card. So if you switch from a smartphone with a SIM card of the smallest format, you will have to go to your operator’s communication store and change the card to a larger one. Or live without additional memory.

The front panel is covered tempered glass Gorilla Glass, the edges protrude above the metal of the main body and are rounded - the 2.5D effect is now in fashion. The ugly black frame around the screen remains, but has become much thinner.

To be honest, I noticed it after reading our review of the first version of Mi Max, but once I saw it, I couldn’t continue to ignore it. So it’s better to look for the black version of the smartphone, it also has touch buttons with the backlight turned off they stand out less.

Mi Max 2 has very loud external stereo speakers: one on the bottom to the right of the USB-C port, and the second combined with the earpiece at the top. You definitely won’t miss the ringtone and alarm clock, even from the next room, but I wouldn’t listen to music on it; at volumes above 70% it starts to choke and the sound turns into a metallic mess.

With headphones (both wired and Bluetooth), the smartphone plays normally, no better or worse than other devices without a dedicated audio system, it’s quite suitable for every day. And if you delve a little into the sound settings, going through different types headphones, you can even achieve a decent result.

While Xiaomi flagship Mi 6 got rid of the 3.5 mm headphone port, Mi Max 2 has it. There's even an infrared port. The standard application allows you to configure your smartphone to work as a control panel for almost any home appliance in a couple of clicks - I especially appreciated the opportunity to get my own remote control for the air conditioner in the office.

Somewhere on the second day, I discovered a very annoying drawback - Xiaomi saved money on the NFC module. As someone who has almost completely switched to paying through Android Pay, I really missed the ability to leave my bank card at home and pay everywhere from my phone. I don’t understand why the Chinese manufacturer abandoned such a necessary thing; even the very cheap Nokia 3 has NFC!

Huge, but you hardly feel it

A smartphone with an almost tablet screen diagonal is not suitable for everyone - it only fits into the largest jeans pockets, you cannot hide it under a desk during an exam, and only a man with large palms can comfortably hold it with one hand, or do anything while holding it in the other hand packages from the store are not exactly impossible, but the pleasure is below average.

On the other hand, Xiaomi designers obviously tried to do everything in their power to provide the user with maximum comfort, not only in terms of ergonomics, but also in software, but more on that later.

The volume rocker and screen power button are located on the right side and have not changed their position compared to last year's model, which is rather bad.

Despite the fact that there is more than enough space, the controls are stuck to each other, and I constantly confused the “volume down” and the power button. Here, it’s even difficult to develop a habit, because you have to constantly grab the smartphone when using it with both hands.

Below the screen there are three touch buttons, which are subjectively the weakest element of the device’s design; they look “Chinese” and outdated. However, you will still rarely use them; it’s too inconvenient to reach for them.

As an alternative, the prudent manufacturer added an interesting software solution with contextual on-screen menu. You can add a small circle to the screen, by tapping on which a circular menu with the “home”, “back”, “multitasking”, “take a screenshot” and “lock screen” keys will appear.

It seems that you have to perform one more action, but in fact, you have to spend much more time and effort on intercepting the device in order to reach the desired button than on an extra tap in the part of the screen that is convenient for you.

As a result, after a couple of days of adaptation (I usually use a tiny Sony Xperia Z3 Compact) I got used to the dimensions, sorted the application icons on the right edge and practically stopped noticing how huge the Mi Max 2 is, I even learned to answer Telegram on the go with one hand.

Screen is good, but not great

The screen is the pride and main distinguishing feature of Xiaomi Mi Max 2. And it’s not just the diagonal, the IPS panel is very bright and produces rich, rich, but mostly natural colors even on standard calibration. If you don’t like something, you can change the gamma settings in the menu and adjust it to your taste.

Full HD resolution 1920x1080, dots per inch density – 320 ppi. Viewing angles are good, colors are not inverted or faded even at an acute angle. But if you look at the screen at an angle of about 45 degrees from above, it fades almost completely. It seems like a small thing, but if you watch a series or a video on YouTube with two friends, the one sitting on the right risks not seeing anything

The smartphone comes with Android 7.1.1 on board, so in the evening you can activate “reading mode” in the settings, which makes the image more yellow so that your eyes are less tired of bright white light in the dark. This function, by the way, is available in all Apple smartphones and computers.

Average performance

Xiaomi Mi Max 2 is equipped with an eight-core Snapdragon 625 processor with Adreno 506 graphics subsystem and 4 GB random access memory. The chip is from last year, middle class, but is highly energy efficient.

Productivity – no records. However, judging not by digital “parrots”, but by my own experience, such hardware is more than enough for everyday tasks: there are no problems with loading “heavy” PDF documents, the interface is fast and smooth, the browser, video and social network clients work quickly and don't freeze.

Comparison of Xiaomi Mi Max 2 performance with competitors

Holds a charge well

Apparently, it was for autonomy that Xiaomi chose the Snapdragon 625 – Motorola Moto Z Play on the same chip demonstrates with even less battery capacity.

Charge Xiaomi Mi Max 2

As you can see, the 5300 mAh battery of the Xiaomi phablet lasts 11.5 hours in video playback mode at full brightness and volume with Wi-Fi and Push notifications turned on, and almost 7 hours in games at maximum brightness and volume. This, of course, is not 25 hours of video from the Moto Z Play, but the screen is much larger.

By the way, the device charges quite quickly. Here it is used USB-C port with the Quick Charge 3.0 protocol, and the manufacturer promises that the smartphone charges up to 68% in an hour. It may be so - the charge scale was filled to 100% in three hours and twenty minutes.

Android 7.1 and MIUI 8 complement each other perfectly

Xiaomi Mi Max 2 has the latest operating system Android 7.1 MIUI shell 8.

For me personally, the main breakthrough innovation of Android 7.1 was the updated Google keyboard. Not only is it smart and you can customize the colors, it also has an automatic GIF selection feature! Just open the menu with emoji and select the GIF tab - in the search bar that appears, you can search for any animations and conduct important negotiations on the Internet at a completely new level. Thanks Google!

The announcement of the second generation of Xiaomi phablets took place a year after the appearance of the first Mi Max. At the end of May 2017, the head of the corporation, Mr. Lei Jun, showed the public Xiaomi Mi Max 2, the characteristics of which attracted the attention of not only potential consumers, but also mobile device market analysts. Using the example of Mi Max 2, you can track the direction chosen by Xiaomi for the development of smartphones.

Xiaomi Mi Max 2: release date and price

The official announcement of the new phablet took place on May 25, 2017. The previous generation Mi Max was released on May 10, 2016, so we can talk about the formation of a new tradition - the May presentation of new smartphones from Xiaomi.

But the release date of Xiaomi Mi Max 2 on the market will be slightly different. The second generation of phablets will appear on the shelves of chain stores and official sellers of smartphones of this brand no earlier than June 1. So it’s too early to rush to the stores.

But fans of the brand will have time to think and raise money to buy a new smartphone. The phone is inexpensive - the price of the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 in the initial configuration does not exceed $250 USA. For the maximally upgraded version you will have to pay about $300 .

Xiaomi Mi Max 2: design

For $250-300, Mi Max 2 buyers get their hands on a device with a very interesting design. The screen, symmetrically inscribed in the front part, complements the all-metal body, the dimensions of which will not interfere with using the huge phablet with one hand.

The rear side houses the main camera lens, flash and fingerprint sensor window. Rear end flows into the front without clearly defined edges. The corners of the case are slightly rounded.

Only the ends at the top and bottom of the phone are clearly highlighted. At the bottom there is an input for charging and perforation for speakers, which are also present at the top, forming a stereo pair. The upper end is given over to the antenna, which is woven into the body with a soft and harmonious protrusion. Note USB Type-C instead of microUSB.

Xiaomi Mi Max 2: hardware specifications

Official specifications Xiaomi Mi Max 2 look like this:

As we can see, in the second generation of phablets, Xiaomi made a choice in favor of energy efficiency, sacrificing computing power. But they didn’t skimp on RAM and internal memory for the Mi Max 2. Maybe, 4 GB RAM will be able to compensate for some sluggishness of the processor. However, the Snapdragon 625 showed not such bad results in both GeekBench and AnTuTu, so owners of Mi Max 2 will not have any particular difficulties with games and applications.

However, we have to admit that the speed will drop a little. How strong? To answer this question, we have prepared charts with indicators in benchmarks of models from the past and 2017. Among them are the first Mi Max and Redmi Note 4 with Snapdragon 625.

From the new product you should expect performance at the level of Redmi 4 Prime - phones built on the same 625 Dragon. The forecast is relevant in relation to the overall operating speed (Antutu, BaseMark OS 2.0), computing power central processor(GeekBench) and graphics performance (GFX 3.1, BaseMark X). The results are in front of you, everyone can draw their own conclusions.

Xiaomi Mi Max 2: battery

The Mi Max 2 was luckier with the battery than its predecessor. The second generation of phablets received a battery for 5300 mAh. According to Xiaomi marketers, the battery capacity is enough for 18 hours of video demonstration, 9 hours of continuous play, 21 hours of navigator operation, 10 days of audio broadcasting.

Autonomy rating ??? 108 hours

Internet ??? 19:25
Video ??? 16:42

The predecessor - Mi Max - had not just order with autonomy, but complete order! The phablet with a 4850 mAh battery is still among the phones with the best battery life in all operating modes. For comparison, we have again prepared diagrams in which you can compare Mi Max with both absolutely best phones in terms of autonomy, and with the middle peasants in this indicator.

Xiaomi Mi Max: battery life rating (in hours)
Xiaomi Mi Max: Internet browsing time
Xiaomi Mi Max: operating time when watching videos

Thanks to the support Quick Charge 3.0, the battery is recharged to 65% in just one hour. The charging mechanism itself is implemented on the basis of a double module, which guarantees uniform heat dissipation from the battery and chips.

The battery capabilities of the Mi Max 2 have not yet been confirmed by reviews from real consumers, but analysts have already conducted an original test, which consists of comparing battery consumption after 1 hour of playing, watching videos and listening to audio.

According to the results of this test, Mi Max 2 outperformed not only its predecessor, but also flagship smartphones competing companies - Huawei P10 Plus and iPhone 7 Plus, along with iPad tablet 4 Mini, the battery capacity of which is comparable to that of a Xiaomi phablet.

Xiaomi Mi Max 2: camera and display

The Mi Max 2 screen has a record diagonal size - 6.44 inches at display resolution 1920x1080 pixels (Full HD format). The pixel density is far from record-breaking, but acceptable – 342 ppi. The aspect ratio of the display is the classic 16:9 proportion, allowing you to watch widescreen movies with great comfort and flip through pages in the browser with virtually no scaling.

The screen brightness is fixed at 450 cd/m2, which is quite enough for comfortable viewing in direct sunlight. The ratio of the screen area to the front side of the phone is 74.28%, but with such diagonal dimensions this figure is practically insignificant.

The Mi Max display had one significant problem - poor readability in the sun. In this regard, the giant was inferior to almost all of his fellow tribesmen, and he was inferior seriously. The question is, have the developers managed to fix this defect? Practice shows that the company knows how to work on mistakes - just compare the displays of Redmi Note 4 from 2016 and 2017. In short, in Mi Max 2 we expect qualitative improvements and a decisive step forward in terms of screen readability!

Pictures from the Mi Max camera were distinguished by good color reproduction and normal white balance, with sufficient sharpness throughout the frame. HDR worked great. The disadvantages of the camera could be written down relatively high level noise, due to which detail suffered. But evening shooting was excellent for the smartphone, at least for this price segment. Most likely, in the Mi Max 2 camera, the developers will retain the strong properties of its predecessor and correct the shortcomings.

Xiaomi Mi Max 2: key points

1. Xiaomi Mi Max 2 will not have the performance of its predecessor. The 8 Cortex A53 cores of the Snapdragon 625 processor will never overtake the Cortex A72 of the Snapdragon 650/652 chipsets.

2. The autonomy of Mi Max 2 will be even better than that of the first model. The energy-efficient Snapdragon 625 processor and 5300 mAh tablet battery will allow you to operate new smartphone for days without worrying about timely recharging.

3. According to the passport data, the display of Mi Max 2 is no different from its predecessor. They have the same diagonal, similar pixel density and brightness. If according to tests the display of Mi Max 2 is not much inferior flagship models brand, the phablet can be considered as an inexpensive competitor to premium smartphones.

4. The Mi Max 2 camera will suit both unassuming lovers of street photography and professional photographers who want to have a mobile camera at hand. In addition, the capabilities of the Sony IMX386 sensor will be complemented by native and third-party software.

What has changed in Mi Max 2 compared to Mi Max

The first and most important thing is the battery capacity: the smartphone now has battery 5300 mAh, versus 4850 mAh in a first generation phone. The new product uses fast charging Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0, 9V/2A. Also regular micro USB port on the lower edge of the body turned into a fast and universal usb Type-C. At the same time, the 3.5 mm audio output and IR port in Mi Max 2 were preserved and remained in the same places.

The body itself has also undergone minor changes. It now has rounder edges as well as a U-shaped antenna on the back cover, like the iPhone 7. All dimensions of the case, along with the weight of the phone, have become slightly larger: 174.1 × 88.7 × 7.6 mm and 211 grams. The display diagonal remains the same - 6.44 inches with Full HD resolution and 342 ppi. But the black frames around the screen have become narrower: now their thickness is only 0.7 mm.

Has the processor become worse?

And now the most interesting part - the filling. Xiaomi has equipped Mi Max 2 with a chip Snapdragon 625 from Qualcomm. This is a good processor, which is already used in the Redmi Note 4X today, but many fans were waiting for the recently announced Snapdragon 660 SoC. Alas, Xiaomi presented only two phone configurations that differ in memory: 4 GB of RAM and 64/128 GB of flash memory, but The processor is installed in both SD 625 configurations.

The original Mi Max was equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor with four Cortex A72 1.8 GHz cores and four Cortex A53 1.4 GHz cores. There is a slight downgrade, approximately the same thing happened with the processor in the Redmi Note 4X (SD625) compared to the Redmi Note 3 Pro (SD650) this year.

Other changes

There are also positive aspects in the update, for example, Mi Max 2 is now equipped with front-facing stereo speakers that will take the experience of playing games and watching videos to a new level. The new product also received a very cool main camera, the model is called Sony IMX386 with 12 megapixels with large photosensitive pixels of 1.25 microns. The same camera is installed today in Xiaomi Mi6. The flash has also received a slight change, now it is located to the left of the camera eye, and not to the right like the original Mi Max of 2016.

For now, there will be one case color on sale - golden, with a light front edge. For comparison, last year the company released three colors - gold, gray and silver. It will be possible to purchase two versions of Mi Max 2: 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of flash memory, or 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of memory. Models with 2/3 GB of RAM and 16/32 GB flash are not yet available.
