Step 3. Set Galaxy S8 as the receiving device

Step 4: Enable data transfer between your old device and Galaxy S8

You can select and deselect the data to be transferred individually.
You can click on the “All” button and transfer all possible data. Typically there is no need to transfer data from an SD memory card.
Once you've made your selection, the transfer time and storage space will be updated, giving you an estimate of how long you'll have to wait and how much flash storage your Galaxy S8 will use.
When your selection is made, click on the "Transfer" button at the bottom of the screen. 
Step 6: Data Transfer
The process takes place in three stages:
1. Preparation. The old device packs data. No user intervention is required.
2. Transfer. The packed data is transferred from the old device to the new one.
3. Installation and update. Applications are installed on the new device and receive their data.
When applications are installed and data is returned, the amount of flash memory used will be shown. The usual third stage takes the longest time. 
Step 7: Disconnect your old device from Galaxy S8
When the third stage of data transfer has begun, you can disconnect the old device from the new one. A notification appears on the Smart Switch page indicating that you can disconnect the USB cable. The screen of the old device shows the message “Do not disconnect the cable” when transferring data. When the data transfer is complete, the “Ready” page appears. It says that the data was successfully transferred. After this, you can disconnect the cable and close the application. 
Step 8. Operate Galaxy S8 with recovered data.
Using Wi-Fi Direct to transfer data
If you don't want to use a cable, you need to use a wireless connection. Wi-Fi Direct does not require Internet access. You also don't need a router. The old device is directly connected to the new one.
The process is similar to the ones described above, but there are two notable differences:
1. On Galaxy S8, you need to launch the Smart Switch application and select wireless mode data transfer instead of a USB cable.
2. On your old device, you need to launch the Smart Switch application, select wireless mode and set it as the sending device.
If you choose a USB cable, you don't need to run the Smart Switch app on your old device. The connection via USB cable will be established automatically.
