It must be said that such an error is quite popular, and the reason for its occurrence can be as incorrect Windows settings, as well as problems with your Internet provider.

In this article, I will analyze the most basic things that cause this error to appear and give recommendations for eliminating them. 👌

No matter how banal the advice may be, yet the first thing I recommend is reboot laptop/computer and router (if you have one (many providers now set it “automatically” when connecting)).

To turn off the laptop, hold down the power button for 10-15 seconds.

👉 Note: to reboot Wi-Fi router- just disconnect it from the power supply for 15-20 seconds. There is also a special one on the body of the device for this purpose. button.

After the reboot, I recommend running network troubleshooting (often it solves many problems with Internet access). 👉 For run diagnostics- click right click mouse over the Internet icon in the tray and select in the pop-up menu "Diagnosing problems" (see screenshot below).

The diagnostic result can be unpredictable: in my case the error appeared again (example in the screenshot below). But nevertheless, often after a reboot, the network starts working in normal mode...

STEP 2: Connect another device

If you are using a router, try connecting to Wi-Fi networks other device (for example, laptop, phone, etc.).

Important check- will there be Internet on this device, are there any errors related to the DNS server. If the problem is with a specific PC/laptop, then on other devices the network will function as usual.

To check, by the way, you can connect (say) even a regular phone to the Wi-Fi network. You can also try disconnecting the router and connecting the Internet cable directly to the computer's network card.

STEP 3: Are the network settings correct? Automatic DNS acquisition

Let's get to the main point!

Most often, DNS related problems and errors arise due to infidels(lost) settings network connection. Therefore, I suggest checking them first!

To see all network connections, click WIN+R, enter into the line "Open" team ncpa.cpl and press Enter (as in the screenshot below).

Most often this is either "Wireless network connection" (if the router is installed and created WiFi connection, more often on laptops), or "Connect via local network" (Ethernet) - if the PC is connected to the Internet via a network cable.

In the "General" tab you need to set the IP address and DNS server. There can be two situations here:

  1. 👉 first- just set the sliders to the positions for obtaining an IP address and DNS servers automatically (like this in my screenshot below). By the way, this is the case with most Internet providers (they do not create unnecessary problems for the user 👌). But there are exceptions, see below;
  2. 👉 second- you must specify a specific IP address and specific DNS servers. What needs to be specified: must be looked at in your agreement with the Internet provider (or check with him). If you enter this data incorrectly (or if it has been changed), then the Internet will not work for you!

STEP 4: Try setting Google DNS

It happens that Internet providers (most often small) DNS servers are buggy (which is not good). It is clear that Google's DNS servers are faster, free and much more stable.

Therefore, by registering them in the connection settings, you can often quickly restore normal work Internet. They need to be registered in properties network connection (how to open these properties is described in the previous step ☝).

STEP 5: Try to clear the DNS cache (and other settings) on the command line

Clearing the cache can often help get rid of DNS-related errors. This can be done from 👉, opened as administrator.

To open command line with administrator rights, you need:

  1. launch task manager (combination of buttons Ctrl+Shift+Esc or Ctrl+Alt+Del) ;
  2. in the task manager click file/new task ;

If you do not have drivers for your network card (through which you connect to the network)- then you will not have Internet at all (and the DNS error in this case, as a rule, does not appear often...).

To find out if you have drivers for your network card, open 👉. To do this, click WIN+R, and enter the command devmgmt.msc.

Next, see if you have any devices opposite which the yellow light is on. Exclamation point (most often, they are located in the "Other devices" section). If there are such devices, you need to update the drivers for them.

STEP 7: Are your antivirus and firewall configured correctly?

Often the error that DNS servers have stopped responding occurs after installing/reinstalling antivirus and security programs.

This can also happen when the highest possible level of protection is enabled in some antivirus products.

Therefore, the recommendation here is simple - try to temporarily disable (or even remove) your antivirus (firewall). If the error stops appearing, I think it’s worth changing your antivirus, or setting it to the optimal settings...

STEP 7: Contact your ISP support

Lastly, if all of the above fails, try reporting the problem to your Internet Service Provider. Perhaps the problem is on their side...

Simple ways to solve the problem

Sometimes a problem that seems very complex can be solved quite simply.

Here's what you need to do from the very beginning:

  • Restart your computer. Finding the true cause of this error can be quite difficult. It is quite possible that some parameters operating system They don't allow her to connect to the Internet. Therefore, it is better to start it again.
  • Reboot your router. The same goes for the router - some parameters get lost from time to time. You can try to find them and configure them correctly, or you can simply start the system again. The second option is faster. Just unplug the router from the socket and turn it on after a minute.
  • If the Internet does not reach through the router, but directly through the cable, check its integrity. If possible, it is better to even go up to the roof of the house to see what is wrong with the wires - often, for example, hooligans cut them for some reason. If there is damage somewhere, it is better to replace or isolate this area.
  • If you do connect through a router, try connecting directly. This way you can understand what the real problem is. If the connection is restored when connecting directly, try using a different router. This will make it possible to make sure that the problem is really in the old router.
  • Just wait a while. It is quite possible that the provider is doing some work or for some other reason the connection is temporarily unavailable. Then you just need to wait a little.

Tip: Call your ISP if you have any problems with the Internet. Now many providers report that, for example, they are working at your address and after some time (usually the operator says how long) the connection will be restored. Then you won’t have to worry about specified time check your internet.

Restarting the service

Rebooting the DNS client often helps. This is done as follows:

  • Press the “Win” and “R” buttons on your keyboard at the same time, or launch the command window (aka “Run”) from the Start menu. In it, enter the command “services.msc” and click “OK”.
  • The operating system services window will open. In the list you need to find the DNS client, right-click on it and select “Properties” in the drop-down window.
  • In the properties window, next to “Startup type”, set “Automatic”. Next, click “Start” to restart this service.
  • Restart your computer.

This should help. And if nothing has changed, move on to the next way to solve the problem.

Server settings

It happens that certain settings for connecting to the server, for example, its address, are lost. Therefore they need to be corrected.

This is done like this:

  • Click on the connection icon in the tray (bottom right) with the right mouse button. In the drop-down menu, select “Network and Sharing Center...”.
  • In the window that opens, click “Change settings...” in the left panel.
  • On the connection you are using, right-click and select “Properties” from the drop-down menu.
  • In the window that opens, left-click once on the item “IP version 4 (TCP/IPv4)”. A little lower, click the “Properties” button.
  • To put it simply, there should not be any addresses in the next window. Check the two boxes “Obtain an address automatically”, click “OK”, restart your computer and try to connect again.

If setting the automatic receipt of addresses did not help, try setting the Google server addresses to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

This should be entered as “Preferred DNS Server” and “Alternate DNS Server” respectively.

Clearing cache

When connecting to DNS, a lot of different information is accumulated, in other words, a cache.

You should get rid of it, like any other type of cache.

The same applies to various temporary network parameters.

Fortunately, this can be done very simply - you only need to enter 4 commands:

  • ipconfig /flushdns
  • ipconfig /registerdns
  • ipconfig /renew
  • ipconfig /release

They should be entered into the console, which is launched by entering the “cmd” command into the command execution window.

Let us remind you that it opens by pressing the “Win” and “R” buttons.

After entering each command, press Enter to execute it.

Driver Update

In some cases, updating network card drivers helps. This is done as follows:

  • From the Start menu, type Driver Manager in the search bar. Run the found program.
  • Find the "Network Adapters" section. There may be several devices. It's best to follow these steps for each of them.
  • Right-click on the device and select “Update Drivers”.
  • In the update window, first select automatic search drivers. If the necessary files are found, install them. And if all else fails, try finding drivers for the selected device on the Internet. To do this, simply enter a query like “[Device name] drivers.” Then click "Browse this computer for driver software." If the system cannot find them, specify the path to the files manually.

It is advisable to restart your computer after this. But the Internet can be restored even after a regular update.

Disabling utility programs

The computer may have certain programs installed that work with the Internet.

They can use certain ports, some completely block the connection to the Internet or filter or limit it in some way.

For example, many antiviruses have a parental control feature.

It allows you to “detect” in time and not open sites that contain inappropriate materials (pornography, violence, etc.).

Of course, in order to perform this function, the antivirus must have access to the connection.

Another example is a firewall. It literally filters all materials that reach the user.

But in some cases such programs do not work correctly. For example, they can completely block the Internet, despite the fact that the user did not give them such a task.

Some settings may be lost.

Therefore, all programs that are somehow connected to the Internet should be temporarily disabled.

But it is important not to turn off all of them at once. In this case, you will not be able to find the culprit. It is better to disconnect them one by one and see if the connection is restored.

The antivirus usually turns off easily - right-click on its icon in the tray and select “Exit” or “Disable”. The figure below shows this process for Kaspersky Anti-Virus.

The same goes for many other Internet-related programs. They all involve creating a tray icon.

If this is not the case, go directly to the entire program and look for the shutdown button there.

As for the firewall (aka firewall), to turn it off, do this:

  • From the Start menu, open Control Panel.

To give a user access to a site, a DNS server connects his computer to the server. In other words, the DNS server is the connecting link between the user and the site.

Errors “DNS server is not responding” or “DNS address cannot be found”

Often the browser complains that it cannot find the DNS address of the server. This message occurs most often among desktop users using a connection without cables (3G/LTE modem or Wi-Fi router). However, it can also appear in those who use wired Internet. This error means that the unit from which the user accesses the site cannot find a DNS address that will redirect him to the server with the page he is looking for.

What to do if the DNS server is not responding or is unavailable

Before you try to solve this problem, you need to first find out why it happened:

  1. Because of incorrect settings modem or router;
  2. Due to incorrect operating system settings (the site is blocked by a virus or firewall, or the Windows DNS client has failed);
  3. Due to an outdated network card driver.

To do this, you need to go to the network control panel located in the lower right corner of the task bar. It has a monitor icon, next to which there is an Enternet cable. Advice: The correct DNS address can be specified not only in the Windows settings, but also in the control panel of the router itself. If you are using software utilities from TP-LINK, then use the Quick Setup option.

Often a virus carelessly downloaded by a user blocks access to other sites. To check the system for existing malware, you should scan it with an antivirus. In this case, it is better to perform scanning with a program that does not require installation on the desktop and is located on a Live-CD or Live-flash drive (Live media is storage space independent of the main system). Setting up a firewall

There is a possibility that access to the site was blocked by the native Windows Farewall or the firewall (another name for a firewall) that comes with your antivirus. If you know that the blocked page is truly safe, you can temporarily disable the firewall or reset its settings to the initial settings (then the list of blocked pages will be reset to zero). Updating network card drivers

This problem can be resolved in two ways. The first - the least painful - is to register the DNS address not through the Windows Control Panel, but through the router menu. The second is to perform a system restore. Go to the Control Panel, then – “System and Security” – “Restore a previously saved desktop state”. After a few minutes, when the utility collects all the registered backup points, you need to select one of them. The date of its creation is written next to each point. Select the one where the DNS client was functioning normally and confirm the system reset.

Attention: Sometimes antivirus programs block requests/responses to/from DNS servers. Try disabling or uninstalling your antivirus to resolve the DNS availability issue. Avast antivirus software often suffers from such problems.

From my own experience, I can say that Avast antivirus very often interferes with network settings Windows, which causes various problems with connecting to the Internet. Either the Internet stops working after uninstalling the antivirus, or there is a DNS error, or the network adapter does not have acceptable parameters IP settings.

You can first try stopping the antivirus completely. If this does not solve the problem, then remove it. You can reinstall it, but without additional modules. I wrote how to do this in the article linked above (about solving the problem with IP parameters).

How to find out the dns address of a server

The correct DNS address is specified in the agreement on connecting the desktop to the Internet. It was compiled by the provider, so there is no possibility of error. If you cannot access the certificate, you can call your provider or contact them through technical support and ask them to provide the exact DNS address again.

Where can I configure the DNS server address in Windows?

It can be configured through Windows utilities (path: network icon in the taskbar - “Settings” - “Network” - “Internet Protocol v4” - “Properties” - tab with DNS addresses) or through the control panel of your router or modem.

Programs for setting up a DNS server

If the user observes an error, then there are four ways to eliminate it:

  • Checking the correctness of entering addresses in the settings.     2.1. On Windows

    3. DNS server does not respond: TP-link router

    Most modern users use TP-link routers and devices. Error DNS server is not responding can be eliminated in several ways:

    For this reason, if an error occurs, you should not rush, but wait a while: during this period, you can reboot the computer and router without touching any settings. If the situation has not changed, it is recommended to contact representatives of the provider company and tell about the current problem, providing the specialist with the data he requires: contract number, last name, IP address or other information. If the problem arose with the Internet connection service provider, he will report this and tell you the approximate time frame for eliminating the problem. This is especially true for Internet owners from the Rostelecom company (I myself am one of them, so I know what I’m talking about). Very useful numbers:

    If the problem did not arise with the provider, then a company specialist can, in some cases, help the user solve it by giving competent advice or recommendations.

    DNS (Domain Name System) is a domain name system that is presented on servers in the form of a certain hierarchy. When working on the network, you can encounter errors in the operation of domains, which is why changing the server used will save you. In Windows 7 it is possible DNS settings-serera and changing its parameters, which is done very simply, in just a couple of steps.

    Purpose of DNS

    Computing devices do not understand our language, as well as the address that we enter into the search bar of the browser we use. The computer only understands IP - the code designation of the client (user). Such information is provided to the server in the form of a binary number system, for example, 00100010.11110000.00100000.11111110.     For clients, remembering even such a set is extremely difficult. Therefore, when registering a domain on the appropriate resources, we come up with some kind of letter designation.

    After registering a domain, we receive both an alphabetic expression of the future site and a numerical one, presented in the form of binary or decimal system Reckoning.

    When a user sends a request to the server (indicates the address in the search bar), it goes to the DNS server - where the site domain is stored. System in automatic mode searches for matches, and if everything is fine, then we get to the site.

    Some servers may be located quite far from the hosting. This has a direct impact on the loading speed of website pages. It is recommended to use free addresses, which you can easily obtain from many search engines. For many users, this will be the best way out of this situation. Ideal: Yandex.DNS or Google Public DNS. In this case, the connection will be made through the nearest server.

    As is the case with most system parameters, you can find information about the DNS server through the control panel.

  • Open the Start menu and select Control Panel.
