Announcement of Meizu M5C: characteristics, prices and description of the smartphone. Review of the Meizu M5c smartphone: small and inexpensive Fingerprint on meizu 5c

Few will be surprised to learn that currently on the domestic market mobile devices Inexpensive smartphones are the most popular. Although they have shortcomings, their low cost fully covers them. Of course, most weak side these gadgets are specifications: not a very powerful platform, low resolution display and cameras. But this does not mean that such devices are completely devoid of attractiveness. Almost all device manufacturers budget segment They are trying to create models that look like flagship gadgets. This is exactly what Meizu GB/16 GB is, which will be reviewed in this article. The phone went on sale in 2017. Its cost does not exceed 10 thousand rubles, which makes it quite attractive for a certain target audience. Let's figure out whether the gadget justifies the stated price tag.

What's hiding in the box?

It is supplied in a simple cardboard box to Meizu GB/16 GB stores. The packaging dimensions correspond to the dimensions of the phone. The designers chose a laconic design, completely abandoning variegation and images. All panels of the box are made in white. The brand logo is displayed on the sides, and the model name is on the front. If you look inside the packaging box, you will notice several compartments in which all the accessories are neatly stored. Each of them is separated by a partition.

The set of components will not surprise the buyer with anything special. It fully corresponds to the budget segment. Of course, modestly, but the manufacturer provides the most necessary things to the user. This is a 1.5A/5V power supply and USB cable. There is also a paper clip in the box, secured in the documentation folder. As for the latter, the manual, certificate and warranty card are printed in Russian.

Features of external design

M5c 2GB/16GB looks quite attractive. The device stands out significantly among other gadgets in this price segment with its stylish design. The manufacturer did not abandon the solutions that are used in more expensive models. The only thing that had to be sacrificed was materials. In this device, instead of metal, plastic was chosen for the body. There is no point in dwelling on the form in detail, since it is used in other smartphones of this brand.

Although at the start of sales only black and silver versions appeared in stores, there are four more in the line. If desired, owners can choose between gold, red, pink and blue. But if you believe the reviews of Meizu M5c 2 GB/16 GB Black, then the black case looks the most stylish.

Considering that the device is equipped with a 5-inch screen, its dimensions are quite expected. Case height - 144 mm, width - 70.5 mm. As for the thickness, everything is fine here. The manufacturer did not break modern trends, settling on 8.3 mm. The weight of the phone also affects the usability. In this case, it is limited to only 135 g.

If you study the comments of the owners, you can draw certain conclusions. The smartphone fits well in the hand and practically does not slip. Thanks to the rounded edges, you can operate the gadget with one hand. As for getting dirty, even though the plastic is matte, it still collects fingerprints.

All standard connectors and keys are included in this model. Of course, there would not be a navigation button, which is located directly below the screen. The only thing that greatly disappointed the owners was the lack of a fingerprint scanner. The device works with two SIM cards, which are installed in a tray located on the side. If you need to use a flash card, you will have to give up the second SIM. In order for the phone to recognize external storage, after installing it you will need to reboot the device.

Let's talk about the display

The Meizu M5c 2 GB/16 GB screen has a diagonal of 5 inches. The matrix is standard - IPS. Resolution - HD. Density - 293 ppi. Unfortunately, the display can hardly be called ideal, but the picture is displayed clearly and of quite high quality. The brightness is enough for comfortable work both in the sun and in complete darkness. The surface of the screen is glossy, but the glass has a special anti-reflective layer, so even outdoors the information remains readable.

Users consider the advantages to be that it copes well with the assigned tasks. Fingerprints, however, remain, but they are easily erased. Also available auto mode brightness adjustment. There are no special comments about his work. There is no air gap, which has a positive effect on the quality of the picture display. It is impossible not to notice that the developers have provided multi-touch for 10 touches. But as usual, there were some drawbacks. All users included a rather thick frame, which reaches about 4 mm on the sides, and increases to 15 mm in the upper and lower parts.

A few words about cameras

After users found out the resolution of the cameras, they immediately understood why the phone costs about six thousand rubles. Reviews about Meizu M5c 2 GB/16 GB are mixed. Let's figure out what exactly we didn't like. Of course, this is permission. The maximum you can count on is 8 MP main and 5 MP front. Detailing is poor. In poor lighting, getting a high-quality photo is akin to science fiction. You can see blurry areas in photographs. Only the main camera is equipped with a flash. Although it is two-position, it shines dimly, so by and large it is useless. The only thing that is reassuring is the low price of the gadget, which makes this drawback not so critical.

Meizu M5c 2GB/16GB: performance characteristics

What do the comments say about the work? Chinese smartphone? Every buyer understands that a state-owned manufacturer will not sell top-end “stuffing”. And this is quite understandable. If you install powerful processor, then the price will have to be raised by at least a third. But one should not think that this device does not meet modern requirements at all. The developers have implemented two gigabytes of RAM, which is already good. True, half is already occupied, but the remaining volume is enough for work. But what kind of processor did you install in the Meizu M5c 2 GB/16 GB?

The gadget operates on the basis of a 28 nm chip, which indicates an insufficient level of energy efficiency. The system's 64-bit capacity opens up great possibilities, but one must understand that a 4-core processor will not be able to handle all modern applications. The clock frequency limit is 1250 MHz. The device also has a weak Mali-T720 video card. The native storage of 16 GB is not fully available. You will only be able to manage approximately 10 GB. Of course, you can expand the storage with a memory card, but you won’t be able to use it to install applications.

Platform

Users were not surprised by the chosen operating system. As usual, the phone has Android version 6 installed. Not without the proprietary Flyme shell. The interface design is nice. The developers offered several updates that the owners liked. These are animated pictures and new design icons, as well as themes. It is by this criterion that the Meizu M5c 2 GB/16 GB received positive reviews, although a new version (seventh) of the OS has already been released.

However, there were also several disadvantages in the proprietary interface. We are talking about a large number unnecessary applications. They are installed by default. For example, you won’t be able to refuse Sberbank applications. But here, too, users find a small plus. All unused programs can then be deleted manually.

Autonomy

M5c 2 GB/16 GB is equipped with a good battery. The battery has a capacity of 3 thousand mAh. The results, although modest, are considered satisfactory for devices in this price segment. For example, you can play games for five and a half hours. In reading mode, the device will work for about 14 hours. Those who like to watch videos or movies can count on no more than 9 hours. If you use the smartphone in mixed mode, then its maximum is limited to only 20-24 hours, after which you will need to connect the gadget to the network. To restore the resource battery it will take about 3 hours.

Meizu M5c 2 GB/16 GB: owner reviews

Like any budget segment gadget, the M5c has both disadvantages and advantages. The latter undoubtedly include low price, good screen performance, stylish design, decent service life battery life. But users discuss the phone’s shortcomings more actively. Of course, many criticisms are made about the hardware platform. By modern standards, the processor power is completely insufficient. For example, all “heavy” applications will be inaccessible to the user. There are also angry comments about cameras. Today I would like to have a gadget with the best optical modules.

Conclusion

Summing up, we can confidently say that the company managed to release a simple and inexpensive smartphone. Note that previously Meizu brand devices did not occupy the category up to 10 thousand rubles, so the M5c is a kind of debut. You should not expect high performance from him, but your 6,000 rubles. The device is completely justified.

This budget smartphone has a compact polycarbonate body in one of the bright colors. In addition, it boasts the latest version of the Flyme OS 6 shell. At the same time, the modest hardware, designed for most everyday tasks, is compensated by the affordable price of the device. Vesti.Hi-tech found out all the pros and cons of the Meizu M5c.

Meizu M5c review: sound

We didn’t expect miracles from the “multimedia” speaker Meizu M5c, its “voice”, frankly speaking, is not so hot - the volume reserve is relatively small, high-pitched speakers have a lisp. But the sound in headphones, where it is proposed to use a 5-band equalizer with presets and manual setting, I liked it much more. Besides, regular means smartphones allow you to listen to audio tracks (SQ quality) created by codecs for compressing audio data without loss of quality (up to 192 kHz, 24 bits) and stored, for example, in FLAC files. Using the Voice Recorder application, you can record monophonic conversations into MP3 files (44.1 kHz) through a conversational microphone. Note that there is only one microphone in Meizu M5c. So you have to forget about noise reduction. There is no FM tuner in the smartphone.

Meizu M5c review: hardware, performance

As the base platform for the Meizu M5c, we chose the MediaTek MT6737 system-on-chip, in which a quartet of cores with ARM architecture Cortex-A53, made in compliance with 28 nm design standards, is clocked at up to 1.3 GHz. Graphics operations are handled by the ARM Mali-T720 MP2 accelerator with two execution units. The chip can work with two SIM cards and includes modules for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS, while the 4G modem supports the LTE Cat mobile terminal category. 4. Meizu 5c has 2 GB of RAM associated with a single-channel controller.

Testing Meizu M5c. Results in the AnTuTu benchmark

Testing Meizu M5c. Results in the GeekBench benchmark

Testing Meizu M5c. Visual test resultsEpicCitadel

The manufacturer positions the MT6737 for low-budget smartphones, which is fully confirmed by the results of the tests. The power reserve for “heavy” games is enough, perhaps, for minimum settings, and it’s also unlikely to do without “brakes”. So in this regard, Meizu M5c is not original among state employees.

After turning on the smartphone for the first time, there was approximately 8.8 GB of free internal memory out of the installed 16 GB (10.7 GB available). As they say, there is nowhere to turn around. To expand such a poor storage, it is possible to install a card microSD memory/HC/XC with a maximum capacity of up to 128 GB. It is worth recalling that the place where the memory card is inserted is also occupied by a second nanoSIM. Support for USB-OTG technology allows you to connect an external USB drive.

Two nanoSIM (4FF) subscriber identification modules operate in DSDS mode (Dual SIM Dual Standby). At the same time, the 4G LTE modem network (Cat. 4, up to 150 Mbit/s) supports the required LTE-FDD frequency bands: b3 (1,800 MHz), b7 (2,600 MHz), b20 (800 MHz), as well as LTE-TDD (2600 MHz). Wireless communications also include Bluetooth 4.1 (LE) and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n (2.4 GHz). It is regrettable that there is no less busy 5 GHz band, which is available, for example, in . In addition, without the NFC interface, working with the Android Pay service will be impossible.

GPS satellites are used to determine location and navigation. The AndroiTS GPS Test and GPS Test programs did not detect the declared support for GLONASS.

The capacity of the non-removable battery installed in Meizu M5c is 3,000 mAh. This is quite enough to successfully survive at least one working day without recharging. However, the manufacturer promises up to two days of active use of the smartphone. The device we tested included a power adapter with output parameters of 5 V and 2 A. So it will take at least an hour and a half to fill a completely discharged battery 100%.

The AnTuTu Tester battery test showed a result slightly above average - 8,809 points. A set of videos in MP4 format (hardware decoding) and HD quality at full brightness played continuously for almost 9 hours.

The settings in the "Battery" section suggest either stopping at maximum performance, or prefer a balance between performance and autonomy. In addition to the usual energy saving option, you can select a super mode, which reduces consumption to the minimum possible (in direct proportion to the loss of smartphone functionality).

Meizu M5c review: software features

The Meizu M5c smartphone runs under the operating system Android systems 6.0 (Marshmallow), the interface of which is replaced by the most latest version proprietary shell Flyme OS 6.0.2.0G.

It should be noted that Meizu smartphones require self-installation Google services, and in the accompanying documentation this “trick” is delicately hushed up. Of course, such a simple procedure does not bother more or less experienced users at all, but for “dummies”, who make up a considerable part of promising buyers, you still need to be a little more lenient.

The task manager is launched by swiping from the bottom and/or right edge of the screen (selected in the settings). At the same time, the list of open applications became horizontal, and the “Close all” button moved to the bottom of the display. There are now more shortcut icons on the notification shade, and long-pressing one of them opens the corresponding settings screen. Among these icons, an icon of a screen recording button has appeared, with which screencasts are created.

For each application in the task manager you can see the number used memory. Running program(swipe down on its preview opens the menu) can be protected from closing, hide the contents of its screen when scrolling, or (if possible) open in one of the two windows into which the screen is divided. The “Special Features” section contains gestures on the screen when the screen is off to quickly wake up the smartphone, as well as “smart” gestures for the SmartTouch ring with adjustable transparency.

Don't forget in new version Flyme OS about easy, children's and game modes.

Meizu's built-in keyboard promises to protect entered passwords from compromise. For a famous Wi-Fi networks a menu opens with a QR code for connection, where it is also proposed to measure the exchange speed. In the "Gallery" you can now edit videos - trim, apply a filter, apply a ready-made theme with sound design.

By simultaneously pressing and holding the power button and the volume control rocker (decrease/increase), you can not only take a “long” screenshot, but also immediately edit the screenshot.

Meizu M5c review: purchase, conclusions

So, the most compact representative of the fifth generation of the M line is the Meizu M5c smartphone. The polycarbonate case, offered in one of the bright colors, hides a rather modest filling, where we can note a good screen and a relatively capacious battery. But the biggest plus for this budget phone is the latest version of the Flyme OS 6 shell with new features.

However, there are also plenty of disadvantages, starting with low performance, the lack of a fingerprint scanner, as well as the mandatory choice between installing a second SIM card and expanding the memory. The need to install Google services yourself will not add popularity to this smartphone, especially among inexperienced users.

Meizu hardly flattered itself with the hope that the M5c model, offered at a price of 8,990 rubles, would be out of competition. She has no rivals in this price range more than enough, including, but not limited to, such famous brands as Samsung, Huawei and Nokia. Let's take for example a “classmate” from the Middle Kingdom - Xiaomi Redmi 4A, released last year. With the same price (8,990 rubles), in terms of hardware, these smartphones do not differ too significantly (as, indeed, all the others). In addition to the IR port, the “countryman” has a slightly more capacious battery (3,120 mAh), and a 13-megapixel main camera (though its aperture is worse - f/2.2). But if you add a thousand rubles (while remaining in the price range of up to 10 thousand), then the volume of built-in memory of Xiaomi Redmi 4A will increase to 32 GB. As for the shells ( Xiaomi MIUI and Meizu Flyme OS), then it’s a matter of taste and personal preference.

Introduction

The Meizu M5s device was released quite a long time ago, and I was still waiting for the moment when the company would finally announce something similar, that is, inexpensive and accessible, for comparison. As a result, a month ago Meizu launched a budget smartphone, the M5c, which stands out among all the others by having a version of the Flyme 6 OS out of the box.

The Meizu M5s gadget costs in Russia (officially) from 11,000 rubles depending on the amount of memory, and the M5c costs 9,000 rubles.

Design, dimensions, control elements

ABOUT appearance There is no point in talking about Meizu smartphones (and many other devices from some companies) for a long time: everything is the same as in the previous ten devices. It is almost impossible even for an advanced observer to distinguish them from each other. However, the M5s is made of metal, and the M5c is entirely made of plastic. Moreover, the latter boasts big amount colors: among the bright ones - pink, red and blue. The “big brother” has calmer colors.

Unfortunately, for the M5c review I got the most boring color – black. The back panel made of soft-touch plastic quickly collects fingerprints, after which the gadget looks untidy.

With M5s it is much easier, since it is metal and the material is non-marking. It is worth adding that there are plastic inserts on the top and bottom of the back side, that is, the case is not all-metal, as it might seem.

The M5c turned out to be more convenient to handle: sleek, thinner body, slightly shorter in height and less in weight. In comparison, the M5s smartphone seems a little bulky.

On top of the front panels there are light and proximity sensors, earpiece speakers, and indicators of missed events (for some reason they were “silent” when a call was missed). Their volume is approximately equally low, but the interlocutor can be heard clearly and intelligibly.

Below the display are mechanical buttons with the mBack touch zone. However, on the M5s the button is also the mTouch 2.1 fingerprint scanner.

At the bottom there is a microphone, microUSB and a speakerphone.

The power button and volume rocker are on the right. In the case of the M5c they are plastic, and the M5s are metal. They are located in their places, convenient to use!

On the left are combined metal slots (nanoSIM+nanoSIM / nanoSIM+microSD).

At the top are the 3.5mm headphone jacks.

Cameras and two-section flashes (warm and cool) are on the rear panel.

Total for this section: if you need a light, compact and bright device, and the parameters are not very important to you, then the M5c is your choice.

Display

In the new Meizu M5c the screen diagonal is exactly 5 inches, and in the Meizu M5s it is 5.2 inches. The difference is small, but it is visually noticeable that the M5s is slightly taller. The resolution is the same - HD, that is, 1280 x 720 pixels, IPS matrices without an air gap, and full lamination. The screen frames on the right and left are slightly less than 4 mm.

Meizu M5c

Brightness white– 340 cd/m2, and black – 0.23 cd/m2, contrast – 1480:1 (official data – 1000:1).

Judging by all the data, we have a typical IPS matrix with good colors. For such a high contrast in a budget device - a clear credit!

Meizu M5s

White brightness is 390 cd/m2, black brightness is 0.38 cd/m2, contrast is 1030:1 (official data is 1000:1).

The measured data showed that the M5s uses, plus or minus, the same settings, only the contrast is lower, with a weak backlight the blue color will dominate.

Battery

Meizu M5c and M5s use built-in batteries with a capacity of 3000 mAh.

Despite the different chips and screen diagonals, the operating time of both smartphones is approximately the same, but still in favor of the M5c, which is not surprising. You can count on a full day with an above-average workload.

Meizu M5c

  • HD video playback at full brightness – 6 hours
  • Gaming at full brightness – 3 hours 45 minutes

Meizu M5s

  • HD video playback at full brightness – 5 hours
  • Gaming at full brightness – 3 hours 18 minutes

For full charge The M5c takes 2 hours 30 minutes and the M5s takes 1 hour 50 minutes.

Communication capabilities

The devices are equipped with two nanoSIM slots. Both connectors support 3G/4G networks (LTE CAT 6) in Russian frequencies: FDD-LTE / TD-LTE / TD-SCDMA / WCDMA / GSM.

Types of M5c networks:

  • 4G FDD-LTE: B1/3/5/7/8/20
  • 4G TD-LTE: B38/40
  • 3G WCDMA: B1/2/5/8
  • 2G GSM: B2/3/5/8

Types of M5s networks:

  • 4G FDD-LTE (B1, B3, B7)
  • 4G TD-LTE (B38, B40)
  • 3G WCDMA (B1, B2, B5, B8)
  • 2G GSM (B2, B3, B5, B8)

The rest is standard: Wi-Fi b/g/n dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz/5 GHz) for M5s (in M5c only 2.4 GHz), Bluetooth 4.1, microUSB connector (USB 2.0 with OTG support) for charging/synchronization. GPS/GLONASS navigation works the same without any problems. Meizu M5s finds more satellites faster, the sensitivity is much higher in this model.

Memory

The younger model is equipped with only 2 GB of RAM (dual-channel LPDDR3) and 16 GB of internal memory. Flash memory speed – 133/33 MB/s.

The Meizu M5s has more RAM - 3 GB (dual-channel LPDDR3), built-in memory is either 16 GB or 32 GB. Flash memory speed - 245/80 MB/s.

The memory speed of the older model is twice as fast as the younger one. Both devices support memory cards up to 128 GB.

Cameras

The Meizu M5s has two cameras: a main 13 MP (f2.2, 5 lenses) with phase detection autofocus, a 5 MP selfie (f2.0, 4 lenses). There is a dual-tone LED flash.

The Meizu M5s cameras are a little simpler: the main one is 8 MP (f2.0, 4 lenses) with phase detection autofocus, selfie is 5 MP (f2.2, 4 lenses). The flash is the same.

Both cameras are mediocre. The M5s has obvious problems with contrast and saturation, but the detail is good - small inscriptions are easy to read. The M5c has worse details, but overall the picture is perceived better due to better saturation and contrast.

Selfies look more natural on the Meizu M5s, but I personally look prettier on the M5c camera :) The viewing angle is the same - slightly above average.

The older model records video in FullHD resolution, while the younger model records video in HD. If you don’t find fault, the quality is average in both cases, but the video from the M5c looks a little nicer due to the color saturation.
