Explay N1 smartphone review: first among equals

Such a great demand for "smart dialers" is largely due to the fact that the segment of budget smartphones has expanded significantly, i.e., devices costing up to 3,000 rubles. Thus, we can say that smartphones have become a consumer product. Many manufacturers go out of their way to bring a device to the market that is truly affordable for the masses of consumers. True, not everyone succeeds. But today we will talk about those who succeeded: Explay and the new model of the budget smartphone Explay N1.

Explay N1

Quo licet Jovi, non licet bovi

To begin with, let's see who generally produces smartphones in the price segment up to 3000 rubles. The first thing that comes to mind is little-known Chinese brands or “sub-brands” of large companies that have decided to disguise themselves and throw a stunted device on the market without damaging their reputation. Both in the first and in the second case, users, having received such smartphones, are very soon disappointed and send rays of hatred to negligent manufacturers. Negative Feedback about products of this type can be found on any forum dedicated to mobile devices.

The third case is smartphone models released by operators cellular communication. They are really cheap and of very reasonable quality. There is just one catch: when buying such a device, a prerequisite is connection to a certain tariff, the cost of which can be equal to the cost of the smartphone itself or even exceed it. That is, everything seems to be fair, a smartphone on the counter really costs less than three thousand, but in fact, you will have to pay all five for it.

Original Explay N1 packaging

Unlike the rest, Explay managed to release a truly budget smartphone, at an honest price of 1,890 rubles, without any marketing tricks. At the same time, the device looks quite decent, meets all the needs of a modern user and has a quality guarantee, the key to which is the well-established reputation of Explay.

Now let's take a look at the device itself.

Ex pedum Herculem

At first appearance. After all, first of all, it is the design that draws the attention of the buyer. An apparatus in a red case came to our laboratory, which simply cannot but attract attention. We can also say that the following body colors are available today: black, white and purple. The screen is edged with a plastic frame.

Small but bright Explay N1 screen

Explay N1 - like Chichikov, not that thin, but not fat either. It will not take up much space in a caraman, as it is made in the form factor of a 3.5-inch device. At the corners, the body of the device is smoothed, has smooth rounded shapes, the edges are also sloping from the "back" to the screen.

Explay N1 Top Face Interfaces

The arrangement of hardware elements on the case is convenient. On the top side there are two connectors: microUSB used to connect to a PC and charge the battery, next to it is a standard 3.5 mm audio jack. On the right side is the screen lock button, which is also the on / off smartphone. On the left, at the top, there is a volume rocker.

The buttons are organically molded into the body of the Explay N1

On the back wall, you can easily find the rear camera eye with a resolution of 1.3 megapixels. We note right away that apart from the fact that there is a camera, there is practically nothing to say about it. That is, it is a standard camera controlled by a standard Android application with a full set of relevant functions, filters, shooting modes, etc. The quality of the pictures obtained when using the camera, of course, is far from ideal, but it is obvious that Explay N1 is not bought to replace a digital camera.

We will go directly to the possibilities of Explay N1.

A posteriori

Before talking about the experience of using a smartphone, it is best to understand what we actually use? The Explay N1 smartphone was built based on a dual-core processor with clock frequency work of 1 GHz, manufactured by Mediatek, which, in principle, is not surprising, since the products of this Taiwanese developer of mobile chips are found in almost every budget device. Apparently, the Explay engineers decided not to experiment and reinvent the wheel, but to go the beaten path, which, of course, should be attributed to them.

Several colors of the Explay N1 case are available

RAM on board the smartphone is only 256 MB, built-in 512 MB. Of course, not much, but that's what the memory card slot is for, so that you can increase the volume up to 32 GB. Concerning random access memory, and therefore the speed of solving the tasks assigned to the smartphone, let's look at the results of testing the smartphone.

As you can see, to spite the records, the results of Explay N1 are not so bad. Of course, the device has to compete in synthetic tests with world celebrities. It is unlikely that the developers of our today's test subject went so far in their ambitions.

In fact, that is, when you really use a smartphone, there are practically no complaints about the operation of the device. As you can see, Explay N1 is running Android 4.2.2. As is customary, in the default firmware, the user will find many pre-installed services and applications from Yandex. We will not complain about this, most of them are actually very convenient and work great on a smartphone. By the way, Explay N1 supports the following protocols wireless communication: Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0.

Ecce spectaculum

Smartphone multimedia features are always worthy special attention, because a smartphone is not bought just for the sake of calls, otherwise the Nokia 3310 would be enough.

There were no problems with internet surfing. Pages open quite quickly and when using the standard Android browser and other programs.

As mentioned above, Explay N1 is equipped with a 3.5-inch display with a resolution of 320x480 pixels. Again, not aerobatics, but in this particular case it looks pretty decent. The screen is characterized by good viewing angles, in bright light it behaves like any other device with a glossy screen - it fades, but not to critical values.

Of the capabilities of the smartphone out of the box, note the pre-installed FM radio. By the way, Explay N1 is equipped with a sufficiently powerful speaker so that it can act as a portable audio or video player.

Simple games also ran on the smartphone without apparent difficulties, brakes or freezes, apparently thanks to the good Mali-400 graphics subsystem. So at the hour when the user wants to chop a hundred other fruits, feed a cute frog with candy or run through the underground labyrinths, Explay N1 will be ready for these services.

post scriptum

So, summing up, I would like to say that despite the fact that we have a fairly simple smartphone from the very budget segment, yet this is a kind of innovative device. Explay has managed to create a smartphone that is functionally and technically equal to its competitors of a higher rank, the cost of which is currently the lowest on the market.

The concept of a smart watch that can be used to make calls, send messages, listen to music, and even view photos and videos is by no means new. The most common subspecies now is a watch as an addition to a smartphone. To read incoming message or turn up the volume of the media player, you don’t have to reach into your pocket for a “shovel” - just press the appropriate button on the gadget hanging on the wrist of your left hand. Such devices have repeatedly flashed in the headlines, and we even managed to test a couple of such toys.

However, with the advent of Samsung Galaxy Gear, the theme has received a new life. Koreans have now become very large and serve as the locomotive of the entire Android. So if they did something, then it’s time for the rest to catch up. Moreover, "Fat" sells well, even despite the very serious price. In general, the largest manufacturer, in the language of the network, “upped the topic”, so it’s a sin for smaller companies not to take advantage of free PR and try to offer their variations to the buyer.

Explay N1 on hand

The Explay phone watch is a slightly different type of device than the Galaxy Gear or Sony Smartwatch. This is a completely independent gadget, which does not need a smartphone at all for full-fledged work: the N1 can handle all the “telephone” tasks on its own. We also met with this type of device earlier, however, those watches were bought in China, and in Russia they and the vast majority of analogues could only be found from “gray” importers - and for very good money. Explay N1 is one of the first watch-phones to be sold in the territory Russian Federation officially. Of course, we could not pass by.

Explay N1 - equipment

For espionage purposes, the gadget is hardly suitable - the technological stuffing is given out by the large thickness of the case (14 mm) and the speaker protruding from the side. But the device turned out to be very light: the weight of the watch with the battery is just over fifty grams. It is assumed that the watch on the hand should be constantly. Explay N1 can hang on your wrist all day without any problems - the hand does not get tired of them. After all, this is not a 100-gram Rolex.

Meet Explay N1

The watch is made in black. A silver edging stylized as metal runs along the side faces of the case - a very popular solution among traditional smartphones. On the left side there is a combined power and lock button and a microUSB interface, covered with a flap.

Ordinary analog watches look very tiny compared to Explay N1

The back cover of the gadget is removable. Where an analog watch has a miniature round battery, the Explay N1 hides a 1.3 Wh (350 mAh, 3.7 V) battery. However, it is also tiny. Under it are slots for a full-sized SIM card and a microSD card.

Explay N1 runs on its own operating system, not the ubiquitous Android. Because of this, the functionality of the gadget is somewhat limited - you can’t download additional applications to the watch, you will have to do with only the pre-installed ones. However, the built-in set of utilities is quite enough - do not play Angry Birds on such a compact device. Everything you might need is in the device - from a stopwatch to a voice recorder. To complete the picture, only a calculator is missing - it is very strange that it is not there.

Explay N1 - menu

There are no complaints about the ergonomics of the gadget. All the inconvenience that may arise during the operation of the watch is due to the small 1.44-inch screen. The first couple of days you will have to get used to it, then interaction with it will not cause difficulties. The display is well calibrated - in most cases, it responds accurately to pressing. There is a backlight level control in the settings, however, even if you set it to the maximum, in direct sunlight the display fades very much, the information on it becomes almost unreadable.

To save power, the device's display is turned off by default. In order for him to wake up, you need to press the corresponding key on the left side. Then the clock will justify its name and display the current time in an analog version. To unlock the screen, swipe from left to right. The device deftly cracks down on such gestures, although they should be “drawn” slowly. Talking by the clock is quite comfortable only with a connected headset, which, by the way, is better not to lose - it will not be easy to find the same one. The fact is that the built-in speaker does not have a very large volume margin, and the interlocutors periodically complained about not very good audibility. Only very restrained and patient people can type SMS messages on such a small screen. The kind of people you can make nails out of.

At the end of 2013, the Russian company introduced to the domestic market the most advantageous product that compares favorably with its predecessors. price range and characteristics. The Explay N1 smartphone, the reviews and capabilities of which we will consider, will delight fans of inexpensive mobile devices with a powerful dual-core processor, the ability to connect a pair of SIM cards at once, minimal weight and the Android 4.2 operating system. The communicator has high performance and stable operation of all functional solutions, copes even with complex tasks without any delay and delay. The mobile device is available in several colors: black, red, purple and white. By the way, on this occasion, we can say that the Explay N1 Black smartphone is recognized as very curious, user reviews indicate that this model is more official and classic. The surprises don't end there. In addition to the communicator, the manufacturer released the Explay N1 tablet (reviews from thrifty users about it are positive) with a seven-inch screen and low cost.

Equipment

The packaging box of the smartphone is made of thick cardboard; the company logo, the name of the gadget, specifications and general information are highlighted in white on it. The communicator comes with a charger, user manual and

Design

In appearance, the smartphone does not differ from conventional budget mobile devices. This was the reason for criticism of the Explay N1: the reviews of some users allow us to conclude that they were waiting for a certain zest in the device. In all color variations of the model of this smartphone, except for white, there is a black edging on the body panel. Explay N1 users are especially pleased (reviews confirm this) that the smartphone can be purchased in accordance with their own preferences, because, as already mentioned, the device is presented in several colors. The back cover is matte, it does not show fingerprints. Here it is worth paying attention to the Explay N1 Black smartphone again, the reviews confirm that pollution on it is completely invisible. The phone is pleasant and comfortable to hold in the hand, although the surface of the case is smooth and slips a little. The weight of the mobile device is 109 grams, dimensions - 116 x 62 x 14 mm. Near the front panel part of the body is made of glossy, and the rest of the surface is made of matte plastic.

Try to handle your phone as carefully as possible. As an example, we have studied several opinions about the Explay N1 Plus. Reviews allow us to conclude that, despite the fact that the screen is covered with a special protective film, it peels off very quickly, and scratches and scuffs form on the display. If used improperly, the device may soon lose its presentation. The price is, of course, small, but still unpleasant. If protective film has fallen into disrepair, it is easier to stick a new one and keep the attractive appearance of the smartphone.

Explay N1: production quality reviews

The assembly of the smartphone is quite high quality, except for a small gap between the back cover and the case. We have studied what they say about Explay N1 Black. Reviews confirm that the device does not crunch, creak or make any extraneous sounds when compressed, which happens with some models of budget smartphones.

side view

The back side of the device is smooth and even, does not bend when pressed in the battery area. On the upper part of the front panel there is a speech speaker, which also functions as a hands-free device. At an average volume, the interlocutor is perfectly audible, mostly dominated by high frequencies, there is no echo, extraneous noise and rattling. For a budget smartphone, such indicators are very rare. There is a proximity sensor near the speaker, which reacts to touch clearly and quickly, no unauthorized screen activations were noted. Below the display are the usual functional touch buttons "Menu", "Back" and "Home". They are highlighted with silver paint, but since there is no backlight, it is difficult to use them in a dark room. At the bottom of the device there is a microphone, and on the top side there is a connector for charger, headset and USB cable. On the left is the volume rocker, it comes a little on the back side. The power button is located in the upper right corner of the smartphone, it is convex, instantly responds to pressing, it does not have to be pressed into the device with force. On the back side is the camera, which rises slightly and stands out above the body. If you need to remove the cover, pry it with a flat object or your fingers from the notch located in the lower left corner. Under the "cover" we can see a removable battery, slots for a pair of SIM cards and a slot for a memory card.

Display

The screen of the Explay N1 model is small, its diagonal is 3.5 inches. Compared to 5" modern smartphones at first glance it seems that this is not enough. 320 x 480 pixels, 164 pixels. These figures are quite decent for a budget smartphone. As for the minuses of Explay N1, user reviews draw attention to the poor quality of the TFT matrix. The fact is that when tilted, there are practically no viewing angles, color reproduction is not the best, and when you turn the screen, the shades become completely faded. There is no light sensor in the mobile device. The brightness is adjusted manually, its range is wide, and the quality is high. Touch screen immediately responds when exposed to it, supports simultaneously up to two clicks on the display. The screen of the smartphone is capacitive, there should be no problems with its functioning.

Charge

The mobile device has a removable lithium ion battery 1300 mAh capacity. Due to the small screen size, not too much gluttony battery life gadget and a simple matrix, such a battery can withstand up to five hours of talking, up to six hours of browsing the Internet, up to two hours of watching a video, or about seven hours of reading at medium brightness. The smartphone only functions in 2G cellular networks. There is a built-in Bluetooth 4.0 for file transfer, you can also use Wi-Fi. The device can be used as a modem or as an access point. By wireless connection or mobile communications you can determine your location. In the Explay N1 device, GPS (user reviews also mention this) is not supported as a separate function.

Removable media

The Explay N1 smartphone has a built-in RAM of 256 MB, of which 100 MB can be used, RAM is used for various functions mobile device. For such money, one should not expect more, but the offered memory is enough to perform elementary tasks. If you plan to use additional media, there is a special slot for it under the back cover and battery. It can save videos, photos and data up to 32 GB.

Smartphone Explay N1: quality reviews with filming

In this budget communicator you will be pleasantly surprised by the camera, because in some inexpensive phones she simply does not exist. There is no front sensor, and the main module is 1.3 megapixels. The quality of photos leaves much to be desired, and this is not surprising with such characteristics and the absence of a flash. You need to shoot in good light, sometimes the camera produces such pictures that may well compete with photos taken on a tablet. 860 x 480, while the recording quality is average. But the sound of the smartphone is of high quality and high. Multimedia applications in a mobile device are standard, used to play video, music or radio.

The multimedia functions of smartphones always attract increased attention from users, because otherwise it would be enough to purchase a regular mobile phone to make calls and send messages. There were no problems loading Internet pages, they open quickly enough. The quality of the headset is good, the sound is slightly above average, in most cases the middle frequencies are heard, the high frequencies are a little “overwhelmed”, and the low frequencies are hardly noticeable. Since the ringing speaker is also conversational, its volume is low. Video can be viewed at a resolution of 800 x 600 megapixels. This mobile device great for novice users. The model is equipped with a dual-core 1 GHz. The smartphone lacks GPS and 3G. built-in operating system- Google Android 4.2.2. Everything works smoothly, there are no glitches and no slowdowns. It is important to note that the device does not have services Google Play, Yandex programs are used instead. With their help, you can find all the necessary applications and games. The interface is made identical to other smartphones on Android 4.2.

Conclusion

When you buy an Explay N1 smartphone, you get a full-fledged multimedia device with the ability to use almost any programs and applications. If we compare the communicator screen with conventional mobile phones, then it is large enough, and the resolution is high. You can use 2 SIM cards, especially in places where the operation of one of the operators is limited. There is a good video and music player, as well as a built-in radio. Of the minuses, one can note the low quality of the screen matrix and camera, the lack of navigation, Google applications and the presence of only one speaker. By the way, if the lack of built-in positioning functions in the phone confuses you, you can always purchase an additional Explay N1 navigator, the reviews about it are very worthy, and the price is more than justified.

So, summing up, I would like to say that despite the fact that we have a fairly simple smartphone from the budget segment itself, it is still a kind of innovative device. Explay has managed to create a smartphone that is functionally and technically equal to its competitors of a higher rank, the cost of which is currently the lowest on the market.
