Today I would like to talk about Wi-Fi password. You probably remember it very well, or you have it written down on a piece of paper somewhere. It’s unlikely that you even think about it until that ill-fated day comes when you lose or simply forget those few symbols. However, there are other situations.

Here's an example: many users do not know how to configure Wi-Fi routers (routers). And this is even despite the fact that for many Internet providers there are automatic settings: all that is required from the user is to select his provider and all settings will be registered automatically. Of course, I don’t blame anyone; on the contrary, I understand such things with understanding, since a few years ago I myself didn’t understand anything at all about the router settings. So, to set up the device, they often call a specialist who does the job in a couple of tens of minutes. But for some reason, it often happens that the master customizer, either on purpose or completely by accident, forgets to tell the network password. And if you want to access the Internet via Wi-Fi at home from a phone or tablet, you simply cannot do this because you do not know the most important thing - the password.

The eternal question is what to do? For some reason, many people immediately advise. The decision is partly correct, but not the most reasonable. Why? But because after resetting the settings you will have to configure everything again. And it’s good if you know how to do it, but what if you don’t? You'll have to call the technician again... Therefore, I suggest first trying to find out the password using known methods.

If your computer is connected to a wireless network

So, if your computer or laptop is in this moment connected to wireless network, then finding out the treasured symbols will not be difficult at all.

First of all, move the mouse cursor over the connection icon, which is located in the lower right part of the screen, and click on the right mouse button, thereby calling up the menu. Select "Network and Sharing Center" shared access" and click on it.

After this, you will be taken to the page for viewing basic network information and setting up connections. On the left side of the page there is a subsection “Manage wireless networks” that you need to click on.

Now in the window you will see a list of all wireless networks that you use or have used. Select the one you need, hover over it and press the right button. A menu will appear, in it select the first item “Properties”.

A small window will open in front of you with the properties of this wireless network. Select the “Security” tab and check the box next to “Display entered characters”, as in my screenshot. In the “Network Security Key” window, you will see a Wi-Fi password that you can use on any device (except in cases where there is a device restriction).

In some cases, when you hover over the connection icon and click on the right mouse button, the “Network and Sharing Center” item is missing. If this is your case, don't worry. Instead of the right button, click on the left one and you will see a list of all available networks. Select the one to which you are currently connected and press the right button to bring up the menu. In it, select the “Properties” section.

In general, nothing complicated.

We look at the password through the router settings

If your computer or laptop is not currently connected to a wireless network, you will not be able to use the previous method. What to do then? I suggest you look at the data through the settings of your router, fortunately, it is not at all as difficult as it seems.

First and, perhaps, most importantly, you need to know the username and password to access the router settings. Where can I find them? Most often, this data can be found on a sticker, which is usually located on the bottom or side of the device. At the same time, you can also see a login address like https://192.168.1.1/ (depending on specific model your router).

So, enter the address https://192.168.1.1/ into the browser line (do not forget that it may be different for you). Press the Enter key, wait for the page to load, and then enter the username and password that you found.

If the data is not suitable, then you will most likely have to reset the router settings. In this case, you will have to configure the device again, but you will be able to register the password you want. However, just below you can read about how to find out the data using a special program.

If the data is correct and you calmly enter the panel, then that’s just great. I show an example based on the D-Link Dir-300 model. Select the Wi-Fi section, “Security Settings” subsection. Here in the “Encryption key” column we see the same password (shown by an arrow).

By the way, you can change it to the one you want. Just be sure to write it down somewhere and be sure to save your settings. Don't touch anything else here.

We use special programs

If nothing helps, and you simply don’t want to reset your router’s settings, then you can try using the WirelessKeyView program. It allows you to recover all wireless network keys that are stored by services on the user's computer. Yes, you won’t be able to find other people’s Wi-Fi passwords using this software, but you will be able to find your own.

To do this, find the program on the Internet (it is distributed free of charge), download it and install it on your PC. Then run and wait. After some time, the program will scan the computer and find all the network passwords that were once saved, as shown in the screenshot.

This is such a useful program.

How to find out Wi-Fi password on Android?

Oddly enough, you can find out the password if you are connected to a Wi-Fi network using your smartphone or tablet based on operating system"Android". True, there is one feature here - the device connected to the network must have root rights, because otherwise nothing will work.

So, we have the device in our hands. We will also need file manager. It could be, for example, an ES conductor. Open it, go to the root directory, and from there to the data folder.

Here we look for the misc folder, open it, then go to the wifi folder and select the wpa_supplicant.conf file.

It contains absolutely all networks and passwords to them that the device has ever connected to. This file can be opened through the same file manager.

This method is suitable for your personal router or any other one to which you have physical access. Most modern routers have a unique default network name and password. They are usually printed on a label with serial number and other service information or on a special sticker.

2. Find out the password from Windows network settings

If you are (or have ever been) connected to the network through Windows, then it will kindly tell you forgotten password. Depending on the version of Windows, the names of the menu items may differ, but the meaning is approximately the same.

You need to go to the “Network and Sharing Center” and get to the list of wireless networks. Then open properties the desired network and look at the password in the “Network security key” field, not forgetting to check the “Display entered characters” checkbox.

With Mac it's exactly the same. OS X stores the password for every network you've ever connected to, and of course you can see it.

This is done in the “Keychain”, where all your passwords are stored. We launch it through Spotlight or from the “Programs” folder and select the “System” section in the sidebar on the left. Next, find the desired network in the list and click on the “i” button in the panel below. We check the box next to “Show password” and after entering the administrator password we see our Wi-Fi password.

4. Find the password in the router’s web interface

If you have access to the web interface, you can view the router password there. To do this, go to the address 192.168.0.1 (or 192.168.1.1) in your browser and enter your username and password. The menu structure for each manufacturer is different, but the point is to find the Wireless Network section, which has a Security item with protection options. It contains our key, that is, the wireless network password.

The menu we need looks something like this. The password is hidden by default, and to display it you need to click on the Display password button or something like that.

5. Reset your password and set a new one

Nothing can stand against brute force. If the password cannot be obtained, then you need to hack it, that is, reset it. This method is only suitable if you need the password for your home router, but it will work on absolutely any router, since each of them has a physical reset button. The only negative is that if your provider uses specific connection settings, you will have to configure it again.

So, we take the router out of the closet, from the mezzanine - or wherever it is hidden there - and carefully look at the part of it where the ports and control buttons are located. Look for a small hole with Reset written next to it. This is the reset button. You need to press it with a paperclip or a needle and hold it for a few seconds (if that doesn’t help, then press reset and, without releasing the button, turn off the router for 30 seconds, and then, continuing to hold the button, turn it on and release it after 30 seconds). After this, the router settings will be reset to standard and you can find out the password using one of the methods described above.

As soon as the computer connects to Wi-Fi networks, he will no longer ask for her password. And most users easily forget this password, especially if it was written down on some piece of paper. This is not a problem until you need to connect another device to the same Wi-Fi - for example, a phone or tablet.

The easiest way to find out the Wi-Fi password

1 . Left-click on this icon in the tray.

Another easy way

This option is a little more complicated, but it shows all wireless networks to which the computer has connected, and not just active ones.

This method is good because only thanks to it you can find out a password that the computer does not know at all. For example, Windows was reinstalled, but you don’t remember the password for your Wi-Fi and now you can’t connect. So in this case, a router will help.

Among other things, its settings store a password. To find it, you need to connect the router to the computer via a power cord (usually included).

If the computer remembers the password and connects to the network, then you don’t have to do this.

1 . Open the browser (Internet program), in address bar type 192.168.1.1 and press the Enter button on the keyboard.

Most often, after this, a login/password request appears. If this does not happen, try other addresses: 192.168.0.0, 192.168.0.1, or 192.168.1.0. But if they don’t fit either, then take the router, turn it over and find its IP address on the sticker.

For example, I didn’t even have an address on the sticker. Then I copied the router model from it (in my case Huawei HG8245A) and entered the request “huawei hg8245a ip address” into the search engine. It turned out that the default address is different, as is the login and password.

2. In the window that appears, enter the login admin and password admin.

Usually this data is suitable (if no one specifically changed it). But there may be other options, for example, root or user. They are usually written on the router itself - on a sticker on the other side.

3. Open the Wireless or WLAN tab and look for the password there. It is often located under Wireless Security (Security Settings or Protection). wireless mode).

As a rule, the password is written in a column where there is the word Key, Password or Password. Often, to see it, you need to uncheck it.

By the way, it happens that it is written immediately when you open the router settings.

If it doesn't help

Then you can reset all the router settings to factory settings. But in this case, you will have to configure it yourself: specify the Internet connection parameters, network name and password.

To reset the settings on the router there is a small, deeply hidden Reset button (usually it is located on the back).

• Let's get into the settings. Next you are prompted to enter your username and password; if nothing has been changed before, then these are admin and admin.
• In the settings window, on the left go to the Wireless tab, and then to Wireless Security

What to do if there is no "Wireless Network Management"? You can view the password through the router, read about this below, or try doing this:

You will succeed under one condition: you must be connected to the network from which you want to view the password.

If, after checking the “Display entered characters” checkbox, the password does not appear, then try looking at it in the router settings. Or, try from another computer, if possible.

How to find Wi-Fi password in Windows XP? We use the WirelessKeyView program

As I wrote above, XP is a little more complicated. In principle, you can see everything there too, but not as easily as on Windows 7. Therefore, I advise you not to go into this jungle, but to use free program WirelessKeyView. Which, by the way, works just as well in newer ones Windows versions. What does the little program WirelessKeyView do? It displays all the networks to which the computer on which you launched it previously connected. And of course, it displays the saved passwords for these networks.

Everything is very simple. Download the program from the official website http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/wireless_key.html. Open the archive and run the file "WirelessKeyView.exe". The program will open, look for your network there (by name), and in the field Key (Ascii) look at the password for it. It looks like this:
