Different sensors perform different quantitative measurements and convert physical indicators into signals that a mobile device can recognize

Like a powerful SUV, it climbs to heights that not everyone can reach. Attractive appearance, decent filling and a surprise inside. Everyone will love the BQ Hammer.

Another budget smartphone has gone on sale in Russia, with the catchy name Hammer. Its manufacturer was the domestic company BQ Mobile. The cost of the device is only 5890 thousand rubles. Bought from the company store bq-mobile.com

I prefer to buy directly from Russian manufacturer. Because The presence of a Russian warranty gives confidence in the working condition of the device.

Let's check.

Dimensions and design features

The new product has a rectangular body with minimal rounding of the ends and relief back cover.

Together with an impressive weight of 190g and dimensions of 155x78mm with a device thickness of 9.4mm, holding the smartphone in your hand is quite noticeable..

Plastic doesn't slip.

The available color palette is white (with gray accents) and dark options. The frame thickness reaches 5mm, which does not degrade appearance smartphone. There are no complaints about the build quality of the mobile device, but protective glass The screen demonstrates good resistance to scratches. There is even an oleophobic coating. At the same time, the factory protective film is already pasted on the phone.

On the front side there is an “eye” of the front camera, speaker and a pair of sensors (light level and proximity). The sound quality is good. There is no backlight for the touch buttons at the bottom of the smartphone.

The microUSB connector is located on the bottom end surface.

The right side of the device is empty, while on the left there are volume control and power buttons.

The back cover displays the name of the smartphone, the main camera and the flash window.
The model is designed for two SIM cards, and provides for the connection of an additional microSD memory card.

Headphone input mini Jack 3.5 mm.

Display

The screen diagonal of the domestic smartphone is 5.5 inches, the maximum permissible resolution is HD (1280x720 pixels), and the anti-glare capabilities are more than modest, preventing the Hammer from being fully used in sunlight. The sensor allows you to simultaneously recognize a couple of touches. Acceptable viewing angles are good, but at certain angles the color gamut moves towards yellow and purple.

Accumulator battery

The battery boasts a fairly high capacity of 3000mAh. This is quite enough for full use of a mobile device throughout the day without any restrictions, including watching videos, being active on social networks, and so on.

Wireless interfaces

The smartphone offers the user a standard set of interfaces in the form of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in version 4.0. There is GPS navigation that offers a stable signal.

Memory

Magnitude random access memory BQ Hammer is 1GB, which is standard for budget models. Taking into account the installation of programs, a little more than 400MB remains free. The gadget's built-in memory is limited to 8GB, which does not allow storing “heavy” games or a lot of photos inside. The problem is partially solved by the ability to connect additional memory slots with a capacity of up to 32GB inclusive.

Cameras

The model has two cameras with a maximum resolution of 8MP/5MP for the main and front module.
The shooting quality for the main camera is normal. Focusing is highly accurate, although the speed at which the image is captured is average. Video shooting is possible in FullHD format. The front-facing camera also works well for its parameters, allowing you to take a selfie or record a short video.

Into the clouds.

In the evening, the smartphone camera sees the picture well.

During the day you can experiment with the modes. There's even HDR

Focusing and photo examples.

Performance

The new Russian smartphone is based on the popular MT6580 processor from MediaTek. The quad-core chip has a frequency of 1.3 GHz. The Mali-400 accelerator is responsible for the graphics.

If you do not load the device with “heavy” games or a large number of simultaneously solved tasks, then it copes with the work without freezing.

Multimedia

The speaker's sound quality and music player capabilities are at the standard Android level. There is a radio. As a positive point, it is worth highlighting the good volume.

Overall, the developers have created a quite decent device, one of the few in its price segment that can offer a 5.5-inch screen and powerful battery. An alternative could be Chinese smartphones directly in China, but, unlike the Russian gadget, there will be no guarantee on them.

Navigation works great. Communication via GSM, WiFi, bluetooth is stable.

Games

A distinctive feature of the smartphone is the popular game World of Tanks Blitz, which can be downloaded in one click. The manufacturer offers: In addition to the game itself, the user of the BQ Hammer smartphone will receive the following benefits in World of Tanks Blitz: a premium World of Tanks Blitz account for 7 days, which doubles all points earned during the battle and a gift bonus T-15 tank with improved gaming capabilities.

Tankers will be happy! BQ Hammer will be a great gift for a child with whom you need to always be in touch. Those who like to play will also like it because big screen. To summarize, I would like to note that in the price category, the BQS-5502 HAMMER has no competitors in terms of characteristics.

The first question that anyone who is used to using a smartphone will ask themselves as soon as they take it out of the box, in the case of the BQS-5502 Hammer is: “How to turn on this thing?” A potential buyer who has finished off his next iPhone and either realized that he is no longer ready to pay a lot of money for communications, or is looking for an intermediate solution before purchasing an expensive “flagship”, will look into the instruction manual, but will not find an answer there either. It turns out that in order to turn on the Hammer, you need to resort to an unthinkable procedure: climb inside, pull out the battery, remove a thin plastic seal from it, insert a SIM card (or two) in the process, put everything back in place - and voila. Anyone who remembers what they sometimes had to do with cell phones in the late nineties, will take this process for granted, but the user, accustomed to closed systems that have deprived us of the opportunity to climb somewhere and, God forbid, break something, will be confused. Now you know. My pleasure!

Hammer - classic budget smartphone, which sports a large screen (5.5 inches, like the iPhone 6 Plus), is moderately powerful battery with a capacity of 3000 milliamps (“long-lived flagships” usually boast a capacity of 4000 mA), a strong, rough plastic case that does not slip and does not require an additional case (we purposefully dropped the device on its side, and at a corner, and flat on a stone), two slots for SIM cards, if you are a particularly talkative person, as well as a relatively low price - from 5,300 to 6,300 rubles according to Yandex Market.

In addition, the buyer receives a ready-made set of icons for applications recommended for installation, ergonomically arranged on the desktop Chinese online stores, food and clothing delivery services; the traditional delivery of WoT Blitz for many Android smartphones with a premium account for 7 days and an exclusive tank, and a couple of other very popular mobile games, which, like U2's latest album, you didn't ask for - but the developers know, that the buyer will still go to the store to get them, so why be shy.

Everything else follows from the price parameter: Mobile Internet no faster than 3G; The main camera is 8 and the front camera is 5 megapixels, which will not shock your Instagram friends with breathtaking pictures. The Hammer's base storage capacity is 8 gigabytes, which means if you're into documenting what's happening around you on video, you'll need an additional flash card.

With all this, the main advantage of Hammer remains its hefty HD display, on which it is convenient and pleasant to watch videos from the Internet, and also, of course, read the mobile version of Disgusting Men. The obvious clients of the brand can be considered teenagers who have barely begun to earn their own money, elementary school students who, having seen enough of their classmates’ gadgets, squeal “maaam, well, buy me a smartphone” (and then there are premium-equipped “Tanks”!), as well as men with large palms, for which social media and Instagram is a lower priority than the ability to forget about recharging for more than a day (the charge put into the Hammer, which was barely taken out of the box, lasted for three days, taking into account both calls and restrained Internet surfing). For those who are accustomed to sleeker interfaces and high-budget solutions, a freshly purchased Hammer will remind you why flagship smartphones are so expensive, and why you should never save on them.

Introduction

The Russian company BQ Mobile (not to be confused with the Spanish company BQ of the same name) has released another budget smartphone with the loud name Hammer. The technical specifications are primitive, but I was puzzled by the fact that the manufacturer decided to sell the device with the game World of Tanks Blitz. The fact is that if it slows down decently on powerful hardware, then what can we say about the simple MT6580A...

In this review, I will try to briefly talk about the Hammer and find out whether World of Tanks Blitz slows down on this device configuration.

The cost of BQ Hammer is only 6,290 rubles.

Design, dimensions, control elements

As you know, most of the BQ Mobile devices copy the appearance of various popular smartphones. For example, Hammer reminds us of the LG V10: the body shape is rectangular, the upper and lower ends are slightly rounded, the back cover is embossed (divided into 8 sectors, as is the case with the V10 from LG). I don’t see anything wrong with this, as long as the quality doesn’t suffer too much, since it’s clear that it’s not easy or impossible to do one on one on a budget.

The Hammer's dimensions are impressive - 155 x 78 x 9.4 mm, and it weighs a lot - 190 grams (battery - 50 grams), the screen frames are thick - 5 mm on each side. It doesn't fit very well in the hand due to the sharp corners, relatively large width and slippery back cover. Despite the textured surface, the back of the smartphone is also very slippery.

The BQ Hammer gadget is made of plastic. The sides are light gray, the top and bottom inserts are white, the back panel is also white. Two versions are available for sale: light and dark. I think that the second option will look more solid.

Everything is fine with the assembly. There is an oleophobic coating, but it is weak.

Initially glued to the screen protective film, and the screen is protected by glass (definitely not plastic). After a couple of weeks of active use, no deep scratches appeared on it.

On the top of the front panel there are light and proximity sensors, a front camera and a speaker. The speaker has average volume and intelligibility, it seems as if the sound is coming from afar. There is no indicator of missed events here.

Below the screen – touch Android buttons without backlight.

Bottom – microUSB (preferably used with a long male plug), microphone and speakerphone. There is a hole nearby that seems to be for the second speaker, although no sound comes from there. Strangely, under the cover there is also the inscription “3D Stereo Sound”. On top is a 3.5 mm audio output.

There are no elements on the right; the power button and volume rocker are located on the left.

On the reverse side there is a camera eye, a flash and the inscription “BQ Hammer”.

Under the cover there are two slots for microSIM and a slot for a microSD memory card.

Display

The manufacturer installed a 5.5-inch diagonal screen in this device. The physical size of the matrix is 68x121, the frames on the right and left are 5 mm, on the top – 16.5, and on the bottom – 18 mm. The anti-reflective coating is of low quality, so the Hammer screen can be used as a mirror, alas.

The BQ Hammer matrix is made using TFT-IPS technology (thank you, it’s not TN, like in Highway) with an air gap. HD resolution, that is, 720x1280 pixels, density – 267 pixels per inch. The touchscreen handles up to two simultaneous touches.

The viewing angles are maximum, but at certain angles the matrix turns violet and yellow. Average brightness – 280 cd/m2, contrast – 550:1. In the sun the picture is not visible, in the shade it is readable.

Battery

This model uses a removable battery with a capacity of 3000 mAh. For this class of devices the capacity is decent, which is good news.

In my case, the smartphone worked almost all day at full load (1 hour of calls, 4 hours of 3G and the same amount of Wi-Fi, mail/Twitter/social networks). Playing videos at maximum brightness – about 10 hours, games (World of Tanks Blitz) – about 3 hours.

Included in the package network adapter at 1 A. The battery is charged to 100% within 3.5 hours.

Communication capabilities

I won’t say anything interesting in this section, since everything here is as usual for the MTK platform: two SIM cards (both work in 3G 900/2100 MHz), there is Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth version 4.0.

It takes a long time to search for GPS satellites, finding at most 10 of them. The signal is stable but weak.

Memory and memory card

The smartphone is equipped with only one gigabyte of RAM (430 MB available on average) and 8 GB of internal memory (reading 18 Mbit/s, writing 3 Mbit/s). After installing the game World of Tanks Blitz, 600 MB is free! It was necessary to install at least 16 GB... There is support for cards up to 32 GB.

Cameras

The main camera has an 8 MP module (F2.8 aperture), and the front one has a 5 MP module (F2.4 aperture), and there is a flash.

The main module takes pictures poorly, the main complaints are still about the optics: strong soap at the edges of the frames. Speed focus is average, accuracy is high. The picture is primitive, like on gadgets from 10 years ago.

The device records video in FullHD resolution at 30 frames per second. In reality, most likely, the videos are released in 720p resolution. Focus is achieved with this. The quality is low, the sound is clear.

For obvious reasons, the camera here is nominal, it’s good that at least it has autofocus.

"Front camera", oddly enough, shoots well. Video – 640x480 pixels.

Sample photos

Performance

The BQ Hammer model uses the MediaTek MT6580A chipset (28 nm, 32 Bit, 4 ARM Cortex-A7 cores, 1.3 GHz, Mali-400 graphics accelerator).

The smartphone, if not loaded with any heavy tasks, does not slow down, and the interface does not freeze. As soon as you try to use the internal memory, everything starts to lag.

Well, actually, why did I take the device? That's right, to check the functionality of the World of Tanks Blitz game. When you purchase a phone, you get a premium account for 7 days, as well as a T-15 tank - the best third-tier reconnaissance vehicle.

The game took about 20 minutes to download and installed in the same amount of time (apparently due to low memory speed). I ran it on maximum settings. To my surprise, even at these settings you can play without problems!

Pros: In terms of price/quality ratio, it is a quite suitable device. The performance is quite acceptable in my opinion. The charge lasts for two days, although I probably don’t use it very actively. Doesn't really slow down.
Cons: From the unpleasant side: the proximity sensor practically does not work at all. Over time, the power button begins to stick. Worthless plastic - after a year of use, half of the side panels crumbled. Although, in general, it did not start to break off on its own, but after falling on the tile. The sensor is not always up to par. The camera isn't great either.
Review: For the price I was pleased with the purchase. I've been using it for almost a year. If I hadn’t broken it when it fell on a tile, I probably wouldn’t have thought about changing it, but now it’s already difficult to turn it on - the side panels broke off and the buttons fell out. And I was afraid that he wouldn’t last more than a couple of months. There are no particular complaints about the operation, except for the proximity sensor, which is not fatal. In general, in this price category I recommend buying.

Well, it slows down. It's not clear how scrolling works. You move your finger down on the screen and it moves up...
Quiet speaker. Very hard to hear.
They sent it in for repair due to the fact that the phone itself did not work. sometimes he doesn’t call, sometimes he’s not available...

Cons: -Insufficient amount of RAM and processor power
-Poor camera compared to other phones
-After 2 months of use, the main power button began to stick
Review: I purchased this model in July 2016. At first I was pleased and wanted to write in full positive feedback, but decided to use it for a few months and then draw a conclusion.

For their money good model, but I wish that I saved money, since I took it for personal use.

The first thing I advise buyers is to never buy this model if the speed of the phone is important to you. For this model with such a huge screen, 1GB of RAM and a 4-core processor are extremely insufficient, the phone simply began to slow down, sometimes it takes several seconds to load an application, for example Google Chrome, this takes into account rebooting or clearing the cache.

A very unpleasant moment - the power button, which is also used to turn off/on the screen, began to stick, you need to press it with force.

Tested battery: V active mode, including the use of the navigator, lasted 2 and a half days (if you could insert a picture from your phone, it would show a graph of battery usage).

The camera is just like the phone itself - for your money. Those. It takes photos, shoots videos of appropriate quality, the landscape may turn out decent, but even with a phone for 12 thousand it cannot be compared, the difference will be visible to a person with poor eyesight.

Pros: What I liked:
+When charging the battery, the % charge and remaining charging time are displayed.
+ vibrating sound when the interlocutor speaks.
+ you can remove unnecessary shortcuts from the desktop and create a convenient interface for yourself (you can make several desktops).
+ loud
+ you can hear your interlocutor well
+ 2 SIM cards
+ good cameras
+ nimble
+ bright
+ The screen backlight automatically adjusts to the lighting.
+ convenient lock button on the body.
Cons: Rather nitpicking :)))
- the screen goes blank during a call
- when the screen is locked, the time, missed calls and unread messages are not visible.
- It’s hard to hear me during a conversation
Review: In general, I’m very pleased with the TV. It’s an excellent smart phone for little money:)))

Pros: Responsiveness, speed, battery capacity, display brightness.
Cons: The sensor sometimes reacts undesirably to short “swipes” to the left or right, considering them to be point presses. But most likely this is not a consequence of the sliding pre-installed film itself.

Pros: Cards support 64GB, there was a fear that it wouldn’t see it, because... written - up to 32.
Cons: Does not support the host, but this is expected for such a model.
Review: I switched to it from a megaphone login, the same thing, only it had 05.GB of RAM and 4GB of memory, and it was locked. According to physical battery sizes 1.5 cm longer, it makes sense to expect that the capacity is actually larger. The display is normal, volume and power buttons on one side, 2 microsymbols.

Pros: Phone for your money
Cons: Everything works at your own expense
Review: One thing bothers me too much, it looks like the Homtom ht7 smartphone, that’s what bothers me more, and in case it’s not a converted phone, maybe they’re just bought in bulk and then sold at an inflated price IMHO

Pros: Price/quality.
The battery is an honest 3000 mAh. Actually I chose it based on this parameter. With applications, Internet, player and calls, it easily lasts more than a day; if you are economical, it works for 48+ hours.
Good case, nice texture of the back cover.
Large, bright display.
Not bad cameras. It’s fine for selfies and other nonsense, but for serious photography you don’t need to buy a phone.
Sound - loud external speaker - the alarm function is important to me and this phone copes with it perfectly. The sound in the headphones is also at the same level, no complaints.
Android Lolipop.
8 gigs of built-in memory - enough for all applications.
Cons: The main drawback is the amount of RAM. The phone is slow. In the end, everything works, but the brakes are annoying.
Review: A very good phone in this price category.

Pros: The battery lasts at least a day (my son plays on the Internet all the time), I didn’t have to buy a flash drive - the 8GB memory built into the phone is enough, an unusual back cover
Cons: Unusual for me new android 6.0, but the child has already figured it out
Review: It was a good and inexpensive birthday gift for a child
