Lenovo S5000 review with video and technical specifications of the tablet. Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 - Specifications Various sensors perform various quantitative measurements and convert physical indicators into signals that the mobile phone can recognize

The company has been on the market for a long time. It cannot be called completely Chinese, because it was formed as a result of the merger of the Chinese Legend Holdings and the American IBM Personal Systems Group. Lenovo now successfully produces computer equipment various types, including portable devices. As a rule, its products have unique features that set them apart from competing solutions.

advertising

Besides desktop computers, laptops and Lenovo smartphones offers two main lines of tablets. Think series devices are designed for business, while models labeled with the word Idea are more focused on multimedia use.

Thus, S series tablets are positioned as advanced stylish devices, running on the Android operating system. Lenovo IdeaTab The S5000-H is a seven-inch thin, light and quite productive tablet, the design of which follows the company's smartphones.

In fact, we have before us an inexpensive mid-ranger that should attract interest with its appearance, ease of use and vigorous software and hardware.

advertising

On the other hand, there are a sufficient number of similar devices on sale different manufacturers. The compact S5000-H will stand on par with ASUS Nexus 7, LG G Pad, Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 and others. Less well-known companies can also offer their own options, including Huawei MediaPad 7 Classic, Wexler TAB 7t and others. So the IdeaTab S5000-H is not alone in this regard. And it’s harder for those Lenovo engineers - against the backdrop of all the diversity, they have to show something interesting.

We’ll talk more about alternatives later, but for now let’s move on to considering the hero of the review. IdeaTab S5000 comes in two versions: Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi/3G. The last one arrived for testing. Both versions are equipped with 16 GB of permanent memory and are available in silver and black color. The Wi-Fi only option will cost about 10 thousand rubles, and for the presence of 3G you will need to pay about 2 thousand more.

Tablets with a screen diagonal of 7 inches are not unreasonably considered the most popular devices in their class. That is why, in order to stand out from competitors, manufacturers have to take three main paths - offering an original design, unique functionality, or radically reducing the cost. The hero of our today's review, Lenovo IdeaTab S5000, belongs to the first type of device, since design is its main weapon in the fight for the attention of potential buyers. However, the technical characteristics of this tablet cannot be called too weak, since it is equipped with an IPS matrix, a quad-core Mediatek processor, a GPS receiver and an optional 3G module.

The Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 tablet is packaged in a silver-white cardboard box, on the lower level of which there is accompanying documentation and network Charger at 7.5 W with a detachable USB / micro-USB cable.

A mysterious design made from recycled cardboard that appears at first glance to be a simple charging tray can actually also be used as a temporary tablet stand.

Design

The seven-inch Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 model looks noticeably more compact than most of its classmates. A similar effect is created by the silver-black design of the front panel, the minimum width of the screen bezel and the characteristic shape of the case, which conceals its true thickness. Eventually, dimensions the devices are 116 by 191 mm, thickness - 7.9 mm, and weight does not exceed 250 grams.

The front panel of the tablet is bordered around the entire perimeter by a thin insert made of mirrored silver plastic “metal-like”, which noticeably expands in the area of the bottom edge. Below the screen is exclusively the manufacturer’s logo, but above the screen you can find not only a 1.6 MP webcam, but also a light sensor, as well as a single speaker hidden under a mesh grille.

Most of the rear panel of the Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 is made of silver plastic with a fine texture, and only at the very bottom there is a metal-look mirror insert. There is an embossed company logo in the center of the back, and a large 5 MP main camera lens with autofocus, but without flash, in the upper right corner.

The left side of the case is completely free, on the right there is a power button and a volume key. On the top edge there is exclusively an audio jack; in the center of the bottom you can find a micro-USB port with support for OTG (On-The-Go) technology and a built-in microphone.

Display

The Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 tablet is equipped with a 7-inch IPS matrix with a resolution of 1280 by 800 pixels, which for this diagonal corresponds to a pixel density of 215 PPI. The backlight brightness is manually adjustable from 45 to 355 cd/m2, and automatic adjustment to ambient light conditions is also available. The capacitive touch layer supports up to 5 simultaneous touches, the quality of the oleophobic coating is average.

Functionality

The device is based on a hardware platform from Mediatek, and the Wi-Fi version of the S5000-F tablet uses an MTK 8125 processor, and the 3G version of the S5000-H uses an MTK 8389 processor. This system-on-a-chip contains PowerVR SGX544 graphics and four Cortex processing cores -A7 with a rated operating frequency of 1.5 GHz, but the tablet developers limited it to 1.2 GHz for greater energy savings. As a result, the device's performance does not break records, but it is quite sufficient for casual games and multimedia entertainment.

Volume random access memory is 1 GB, and the data storage capacity is 16 GB of which 12.9 GB is available to the user. It is not possible to expand the data storage, since the Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 is not equipped with a slot for MicroSD memory cards. From full charge With a 3450 mAh battery, the tablet can last 6 hours in video playback mode and about 8 hours in web browsing mode. The tablet is equipped with Bluetooth 4.0 modules, Wi-Fi 802.11n, an optional 3G module with Micro-SIM card, as well as a hardware GPS receiver, which allows you to use this model as a navigator.

Interface

The Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 tablet runs on the Android 4.2.2 operating system, and the manufacturer guarantees an update to at least version 4.3. The proprietary interface has a number of differences from the standard one, in particular, application shortcuts are by default placed on desktops with end-to-end scrolling, and there is no dedicated section for applications.

In addition to the usual notification and settings panels, there is an additional settings panel at the bottom of the main window. We especially note the proprietary power manager, which allows you to estimate energy consumption specific programs and hardware components, as well as fine-tune power consumption parameters for yourself. This utility can be called from the settings menu or using an informative widget combined with the task manager.

Ergonomics

From an ergonomic point of view, the Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 strongly resembles a large smartphone. The thin, light and not too wide body allows you to easily operate this tablet with one hand. The location of the microphone, speaker and the presence of a proximity sensor are simply created for voice calls on Skype, which is especially true for the 3G version of the model.

The layout of the buttons will take some getting used to, as at first there is slight confusion due to the fact that the power and volume keys are usually placed on different sides or the main ON/OFF button is placed above the rocker.

Results

As a result, we can recommend the Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 to those users who are looking for a stylish miniature tablet for every day. This essentially budget model looks great and is equipped with everything necessary for comfortable work, with the exception of support for memory cards.

However, the main problem of this tablet is not in itself, but in the competitive environment, since for the same money that is asked for it in Ukraine you can buy a much more interesting ASUS Google Nexus 7 (2013). If the Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 cost us the same as it costs in the USA (at this moment about $180), then he had a noticeably greater chance of success.

No matter how many large, full-size tablets are released onto the market computer equipment, compact tablet PCs have been and remain the most popular. This is explained quite simply, because for most users a tablet is an opportunity to while away their leisure time, that is, its mobility is important. Of course, tablets with a diagonal of 10 inches or more are noticeably inferior to their counterparts in this regard.

In this review we will talk about a fairly compact 7-inch Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 model, which will definitely appeal to connoisseurs stylish gadgets. In addition to the cute outer shell, the internal content is also pleasing: of course, this gadget is not designed for powerful tasks, but it will cope with everyday tasks with flying colors!

Design

The manufacturer limited itself to plastic as the tablet material, although it is used in different variations in the design. For example, the gray back cover has a matte rough surface, which is very convenient to use. In its lower part there is a black mirror insert, of course, also plastic. In the middle of the lid you can see the Lenovo logo, and in the upper left corner there is a rear webcam.

The mirror insert is also visible on the front of the gadget: it is a kind of edging, which is somewhat more expanded at the bottom of the device. At the top and on the side edges it is visible as a thin strip. There is also the company logo located directly below the screen. There are no physical keys on the front edge of the tablet, but there is a speaker, a front webcam lens and a light sensor above the display.

Considering the heterogeneous design of the device, which distracts all attention, it seems difficult to determine the dimensions of the gadget by eye. However, the Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 is 0.8cm thick, with a length and width of 19cm and 12cm respectively. Weight is 246 g.

Display, sound and webcam

The tablet screen is very compact - 7-inch, its resolution is 1280 by 800 pixels with a density of 215 ppi, matrix type is IPS. These are fairly standard indicators for tablet PCs of this form factor; they cannot be called ideal, but, in general, they are quite good. There is an oleophobic coating on the display, which should protect it from fingerprints that leave greasy marks and dirt.

Screen visibility is good, typical of an IPS matrix. According to the manufacturer, the viewing angles of the tablet are 178 degrees. Thus, several people can easily enjoy a movie and browse Internet resources at the same time. By the way, the multi-touch function is also present; the screen supports up to five touches at a time. It is worth adding that the display is quite bright and contrasty, the image on it looks realistic.

There is only one speaker in the IdeaTab S5000, and it is located above the display near the webcam. You shouldn't expect a miracle from it: the sound is standard, but it's enough to play anything, especially if you connect headphones. But there are two cameras, with the front one limited to a resolution of 1.6 megapixels, and the rear one – 5 megapixels. At the same time, the main one can boast of autofocus, but there is no flash here. The purpose of these cameras is known to everyone: the front camera is used exclusively for video communication, and the rear one is useful if you need to photograph something. It is clear that with such a small resolution one can count on high quality no pictures needed.

Keyboard

There’s not much we can say about the keyboard on the tablet, because it’s not physical and we can’t touch it. But there is virtual keyboard, which is an invariable attribute of any Tablet PC. It appears on the display as soon as you need to enter, for example, a word in the search bar or write a message on social networks.

So, it comes with a standard Android keyboard. Its interface is very convenient and understandable; if desired, you can change various parameters, for example, language. In general, even those who have never worked with this operating system, make friends with the keyboard instantly!

Performance

We have Android 4.2 as a pre-installed OS, and the manufacturer promises that the system will immediately be updated to version 4.3. The Lenovo IdeaTab S5000-F includes a quad-core MediaTek MT8125 processor based on ARM Cortex-A7 with an operating frequency of 1.2 GHz. By the way, this SoC is mainly equipped with budget tablet models. There is another configuration - Lenovo IdeaTab S5000-H, which has a slightly stronger processor - MediaTek MT8389. In addition to this feature, this modification is equipped with a 3G module.

The graphics component is the PowerVR SGX544 video card. It can encode and decode video, supports DirectX 9, OpenGL 2.1, OpenGL ES 1.1/2.0, OpenVG 1.1 and OpenCL 1.1.

There are no options for choosing the amount of RAM and internal memory; you will have to be content with what was laid down by Lenovo engineers. And they offer potential users 1 GB of LP DDR2 RAM and 16 GB of flash memory, some of which will be used for the system, and 13 GB can be used. Unfortunately, there are no memory cards provided, and therefore it will not be possible to expand the capacity of the built-in memory.

Ports and communications

Interfaces are located on almost all sides of the tablet PC, except for the left one, which may not seem entirely rational to users.
The left side of the tablet is not equipped with any interfaces.

But on the right there is a volume rocker and a button to turn on the gadget.

At the top, the manufacturer limited itself to only a headphone jack.

At the bottom end you can see Micro-USB/OTG in the center, and next to it is a built-in microphone.

The configurations of this tablet PC differ, first of all, in the presence of a 3G module in one of them. For the Lenovo IdeaTab S5000-F model we are describing, this function is optional. In addition, each of them must have built-in wireless communications Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11n, as well as a GPS navigator.

Battery

The tablet has a lithium polymer battery with a capacity of 3450 mAh. Based on the manufacturer’s assurances, this battery allows you to operate the device for at least 8 hours with Wi-Fi turned on. And the engineers turned out to be right; indeed, the gadget is capable of working for about 8 hours in web surfing mode and about 6 hours when watching movies. Even under load at 100% display brightness, the battery will discharge no earlier than after 4 hours. We conclude that this Tablet PC is incredibly mobile and ideal for travel.

Conclusion

The Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 tablet is a godsend for anyone looking for a compact gadget to spend their free time fun and productively. Yes, its body is made of plastic, but this also has its advantages: it is lightweight and far from the most expensive on the tablet market (on average, $290). In addition, it has a design that is pleasing to the eye and will definitely not go unnoticed by others, especially since it is possible to purchase the same model, but with 3G.

The display of the tablet, although it does not have a phenomenal resolution, is quite sufficient for 7 inches. Besides IPS matrix will please the user with good viewing angles. The device's hardware is enough to solve everyday problems, as well as for many modern games. There is only one rather significant disadvantage - it is impossible to increase the memory storage due to the lack of a slot for memory cards.

In general, the tablet turned out to be successful, and therefore we advise everyone who is currently looking for a quality device to take a closer look at it.

The Lenovo S5000 tablet has a rather elegant appearance. This modest-sized and lightweight device can become a full-fledged companion thanks to its convenience and practical capabilities.

Design

Almost the entire front part of the tablet is closed protective glass, only a small strip of plastic is left at the bottom. Main part rear housing Made of soft-touch and slightly ribbed silver plastic. This material does not slip in your hands, does not leave fingerprints, and from a distance it can be confused with metal. Back cover The device is non-removable; there is a pressed manufacturer's logo in the middle, and the main camera lens in the upper left corner.

Display

The device is equipped with a 7-inch. IPS display with a resolution of 1280x800 pixels. To some, this resolution may seem very small today, but this drawback cannot seriously spoil the impression of the device.

Interface

The tablet runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, but the manufacturer announced the possibility of updating the firmware via OTA to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

The tablet shell is significantly different from standard interfaces, which we could observe in other Android devices. Probably the most noticeable innovation was the elimination of the application menu. Instead, icons of all installed utilities are displayed directly on desktops, and you can independently move them between other screens and collect them in folders.

Camera

The device received a 5MP main and 1.6MP front camera. The shooting application opens in 2 seconds; it supports scene shooting, adjusts white balance, exposure and other photo formats.

The photo quality is not very high - the device is not at all intended for systematic photography.

Wireless network

The Wi-Fi model supports 802.11b/g/n standards with a frequency of 2.4 GHz. Modules Bluetooth versions 3.0 or 4.0, depending on the model. There is also GPS with A-GPS support.

The device in operation

The device comes in two forms - with and without 3G support, as a “3G model” and a “Wi-Fi model” (the latter is practically not found in Russia). Different variants received different chipsets. Wi-Fi runs on the MediaTek MT8125 platform, and 3G runs on the MediaTek MT8389. There is practically no difference between these chipsets: both processors have 4 ARM Cortex-A7 cores with a frequency of 1.2 GHz, PowerVR SGX544MP2 graphics and are equipped with the same performance.

Volume of operational and internal memory is 1 and 16 GB respectively. You cannot expand using memory cards, but there is a way to connect external drives with USB host.

Autonomous operation

The device is equipped with a non-removable lithium-ion battery 3,450 mAh. It charges in about two and a half hours. The battery capacity is modest, but sufficient for such a tablet. In addition, the battery size could not be increased without sacrificing the low weight of the device.

Results

The tablet is not new, and it has its shortcomings. It is not suitable as a full-fledged gaming device or a quality photo producer. But if you want an inexpensive device that you can carry with you all the time, then it a good option, especially considering its weight and size.

The average cost is 8,000 rubles.
