Fixed

No matter how many large, full-size tablets are released onto the market computer equipment, compact tablet PCs have been and remain the most popular. This is explained quite simply, because for most users a tablet is an opportunity to while away their leisure time, that is, its mobility is important. Of course, tablets with a diagonal of 10 inches or more are noticeably inferior to their counterparts in this regard.

This review will focus on a fairly compact 7-inch model Lenovo IdeaTab S5000, which will definitely appeal to connoisseurs stylish gadgets. In addition to the cute outer shell, the internal content is also pleasing: of course, this gadget is not designed for powerful tasks, but it will cope with everyday tasks with flying colors!

Design

The manufacturer limited itself to plastic as the tablet material, although it is used in different variations in the design. For example, back cover gray color has a matte rough surface, which is very convenient for use. In its lower part there is a black mirror insert, of course, also plastic. In the middle of the lid you can see the Lenovo logo, and in the upper left corner there is a rear webcam.

The mirror insert is also visible on the front of the gadget: it is a kind of edging, which is somewhat more expanded at the bottom of the device. At the top and on the side edges it is visible as a thin strip. There is also the company logo located directly below the screen. There are no physical keys on the front edge of the tablet, but there is a speaker, a front webcam lens and a light sensor above the display.

Considering the heterogeneous design of the device, which distracts all attention, it seems difficult to determine the dimensions of the gadget by eye. However, the Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 is 0.8cm thick, with a length and width of 19cm and 12cm respectively. Weight is 246 g.

Display, sound and webcam

The tablet screen is very compact - 7-inch, its resolution is 1280 by 800 pixels with a density of 215 ppi, matrix type is IPS. These are fairly standard indicators for tablet PCs of this form factor; they cannot be called ideal, but, in general, they are quite good. There is an oleophobic coating on the display, which should protect it from fingerprints that leave greasy marks and dirt.

Screen visibility is good, typical of an IPS matrix. According to the manufacturer, the viewing angles of the tablet are 178 degrees. Thus, several people can easily enjoy a movie and browse Internet resources at the same time. By the way, the multi-touch function is also present; the screen supports up to five touches at a time. It is worth adding that the display is quite bright and contrasty, the image on it looks realistic.

There is only one speaker in the IdeaTab S5000, and it is located above the display near the webcam. You shouldn't expect a miracle from it: the sound is standard, but it's enough to play anything, especially if you connect headphones. But there are two cameras, with the front one limited to a resolution of 1.6 megapixels, and the rear one – 5 megapixels. At the same time, the main one can boast of autofocus, but there is no flash here. The purpose of these cameras is known to everyone: the front camera is used exclusively for video communication, and the rear one is useful if you need to photograph something. It is clear that with such a small resolution one can count on high quality no pictures needed.

Keyboard

There’s not much we can say about the keyboard on the tablet, because it’s not physical and we can’t touch it. But there is virtual keyboard, which is an invariable attribute of any Tablet PC. It appears on the display as soon as you need to enter, for example, a word in the search bar or write a message on social networks.

So, it comes with a standard Android keyboard. Its interface is very convenient and understandable; if desired, you can change various parameters, for example, language. In general, even those who have never worked with this operating system will make friends with the keyboard instantly!

Performance

We have Android 4.2 as a pre-installed OS, and the manufacturer promises that the system will immediately be updated to version 4.3. The Lenovo IdeaTab S5000-F includes a quad-core MediaTek MT8125 processor based on ARM Cortex-A7 with an operating frequency of 1.2 GHz. By the way, this SoC is mainly equipped with budget tablet models. There is another configuration - Lenovo IdeaTab S5000-H, which has a slightly stronger processor - MediaTek MT8389. In addition to this feature, this modification is equipped with a 3G module.

The graphics component is the PowerVR SGX544 video card. It can encode and decode video, supports DirectX 9, OpenGL 2.1, OpenGL ES 1.1/2.0, OpenVG 1.1 and OpenCL 1.1.

There are no options for choosing the amount of RAM and internal memory; you will have to be content with what was laid down by Lenovo engineers. And they offer potential users 1 GB of LP DDR2 RAM and 16 GB of flash memory, some of which will be used for the system, and 13 GB can be used. Unfortunately, there are no memory cards provided, and therefore it will not be possible to expand the capacity of the built-in memory.

Ports and communications

Interfaces are located on almost all sides of the tablet PC, except for the left one, which may not seem entirely rational to users.
The left side of the tablet is not equipped with any interfaces.

But on the right there is a volume rocker and a button to turn on the gadget.

At the top, the manufacturer limited itself to only a headphone jack.

At the bottom end you can see Micro-USB/OTG in the center, and next to it is a built-in microphone.

The configurations of this tablet PC differ, first of all, in the presence of a 3G module in one of them. For the Lenovo IdeaTab S5000-F model we are describing, this function is optional. In addition, each of them must have built-in wireless communications Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11n, as well as a GPS navigator.

Battery

The tablet has a lithium polymer battery with a capacity of 3450 mAh. Based on the manufacturer’s assurances, this battery allows you to operate the device for at least 8 hours with Wi-Fi turned on. And the engineers turned out to be right; indeed, the gadget is capable of working for about 8 hours in web surfing mode and about 6 hours when watching movies. Even under load at 100% display brightness, the battery will discharge no earlier than after 4 hours. We conclude that this Tablet PC is incredibly mobile and ideal for travel.

Conclusion

The Lenovo IdeaTab S5000 tablet is a godsend for anyone looking for a compact gadget to spend their free time fun and productively. Yes, its body is made of plastic, but this also has its advantages: it is lightweight and far from the most expensive on the tablet market (on average, $290). In addition, it has a design that is pleasing to the eye and will definitely not go unnoticed by others, especially since it is possible to purchase the same model, but with 3G.

The display of the tablet, although it does not have a phenomenal resolution, is quite sufficient for 7 inches. Besides IPS matrix will please the user with good viewing angles. The device's hardware is enough to solve everyday problems, as well as for many modern games. There is only one rather significant disadvantage - it is impossible to increase the memory storage due to the lack of a slot for memory cards.

In general, the tablet turned out to be successful, and therefore we advise everyone who is interested in this moment is in search of a quality device.

The company has been on the market for a long time. It cannot be called completely Chinese, because it was formed as a result of the merger of the Chinese Legend Holdings and the American IBM Personal Systems Group. Lenovo now successfully produces computer equipment various types, including portable devices. As a rule, its products have unique features that set them apart from competing solutions.

advertising

Besides desktop computers, laptops and Lenovo smartphones offers two main lines of tablets. Think series devices are designed for business, while models labeled with the word Idea are more focused on multimedia use.

Thus, S series tablets are positioned as advanced stylish devices, working on the basis of the operating room Android systems. Lenovo IdeaTab S5000-H is a seven-inch thin, light and quite productive tablet, the design of which follows the company's smartphones.

In fact, we have before us an inexpensive mid-ranger that should attract interest with its appearance, ease of use and vigorous software and hardware.

advertising

On the other hand, there are a sufficient number of similar devices on sale different manufacturers. The compact S5000-H will stand on par with ASUS Nexus 7, LG G Pad, Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 and others. Less well-known companies can also offer their own options, including Huawei MediaPad 7 Classic, Wexler TAB 7t and others. So the IdeaTab S5000-H is not alone in this regard. And it’s harder for those Lenovo engineers - against the backdrop of all the diversity, they have to show something interesting.

We’ll talk more about alternatives later, but for now let’s move on to considering the hero of the review. IdeaTab S5000 comes in two versions: Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi/3G. The last one arrived for testing. Both versions are equipped with 16 GB of permanent memory and are available in silver and black color. The Wi-Fi only option will cost about 10 thousand rubles, and for the presence of 3G you will need to pay about 2 thousand more.

I want to tell you about my tablet, which is already a year and a half old. Only today I got around to writing this review.
We will talk about Lenovo S5000.
I bought it last summer. Even the receipt was preserved, unfortunately it faded during this time.
This is what the box it came in looks like:

Information on the packaging:

Check:

I use it every day: watching movies (when the computer is busy with other family members), listening to music, writing reviews, reading books, or just surfing the Internet.
I bought it for work, but it also serves me well at home.
I still consider the tablet to be mine best buy over the past 5 years.

I bought it in a chain store household appliances Comfy.
Also in the receipt you can see a tablet case and a protective film.
I know that some people neglect film, but it will protect the tablet screen for a long time from scratches and fingerprints (fingers are not always sterilely clean when working with a tablet).

I pasted the film myself at home, because in the store this service is paid, and it costs more than doing it myself protective film.
Although in normal stores they are generally required to do this for free.

Equipment Lenovo tablet S5000:
✔ tablet directly
✔ USB charging cable
✔ adapter for charger
✔ instructions
✔ warranty card

In the case it looks like this:

Instructions and warranty card:

Unfortunately, there were no headphones. I bought them in the same store separately, like the cover.
I love appearance tablet, it looks very businesslike, there is nothing superfluous, everything is restrained and stylish.

Tablet dimensions 11X19 cm.

The thickness is generally very small, less than 1 cm.
The weight of the tablet is quite small.

The back panel is metallic color, there is a camera on it (not very good, only 5 megapixels, for comparison, my phone, also Lenovo A5000, has 8 megapixels).

On right side The back panel has a slot for a SIM card (I have Utel):

There's also a headphone jack on top:

On the side there is an on/off button. and volume control:

I don’t like the fact that there is no way to insert another memory card, there is only a built-in one, about 20 gig.
Also, the front camera is very weak (1.6 megapixels), photos are blurry and inaccurate.
To the left of the camera is a speaker. I will note that for me it is a plus that it is not on the back panel, as in many phones.

In addition, the photos from the central camera are not of very high quality. As an example, I’ll show you a photo with a tablet and a second one under the same conditions. Canon camera:

1. Tablet (you can see from the grass that it blends together completely, the clarity is poor):

2. Camera (the grass is clearly visible, each blade of grass is divided and well drawn):

In addition, the Lenovo A5000 phone has a built-in flash, but the tablet does not have this function, unfortunately. Therefore, it is generally impossible to take photographs in the twilight or in the evening.
This is a minus, of course.

Regarding the programs on the tablet.
Initially there were no such programs as I needed social media. Those phones and tablets that are sold now have them built-in. And a year and a half ago, you had to download it yourself, or this service is provided in a household appliance store (but for an additional fee).
I have downloaded necessary programs, two browsers (Opera and Chrome), Skype, fitness programs, calorie counter, pedometer, reference books and others useful programs.

At the bottom of the taskbar, you can select the most important programs and functions for you. I have a gallery (where photos and videos are stored), video, camera and music player.

There is also a pop-up window on top of the desktop that contains required functions(so as not to go into the settings and dig around there). You just need to swipe your finger from top to bottom. In this menu you can quickly turn on Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, edit the sound or switch the screen rotation (this is convenient when watching a video).

The battery holds 3450 mAh, for comparison, my Lenovo A5000 phone has 4000 mAh. That is, the tablet discharges faster than the phone.
To watch a video of its operation, it lasts for 10 hours of continuous operation.
If you use it only to access the Internet, it will take about a day.
I would also like to add that Opera can crash right in the middle of working in it, i.e. the tablet’s resources are not enough for it to work properly.
The same thing happens with very large video sizes, so I try to make cuts from it before downloading the video to the tablet (transfer it from the computer).
The music sounds good and there have never been any interruptions or glitches.
Small programs like the pedometer work perfectly.

Let me briefly summarize the pros and cons of the Lenovo S5000 tablet:

Flaws

Not the most powerful battery
- no memory card slot provided
- performance sometimes leaves much to be desired
- screen size is very small
- unclear photos
- some programs may stop working for some unknown reason

Advantages

Quite compact dimensions
- fits comfortably in the hand
- not too heavy
- acceptable price

Conclusions: the Lenovo tablet is suitable for those people who want to use it to watch videos and listen to music. But it’s definitely not suitable for taking photos, because the quality is frankly poor.
