DIY tablet case made of leather. Is it possible to sew a protective tablet accessory at home? Making a leather case for a tablet

A tablet case is a necessary accessory for your electronic assistant! Our model is fastened with Velcro and additionally reinforced with plastic inserts. This case is suitable not only for a tablet, but also for an e-reader.

Tablet case: choosing material

How to sew a tablet case with your own hands? Our case is made of thick genuine leather with a bright cotton lining. Choose dense, abrasion-resistant materials: denim, corduroy, faux leather or suede. In order for a case for a tablet or book to hold its shape well and be used as a stand, it must be strengthened.

We used thin plastic from a folder for papers, the choice of which is huge in office supply stores. The plastic should be quite dense, about 0.7-0.8 mm thick. It can be cut with scissors and stitched with a machine needle (number 80-90). You can also use thick and rigid cardboard.

In order to connect layers of fabric and plastic, you will need adhesive material. This can be adhesive web, double-sided tape or transparent glue (fabric or leather should be indicated in the annotation). You can use one of these materials or all three. Glue web is convenient for gluing large fragments together, bending edges with tape and gluing small parts, and using glue to secure threads.

You will also need an elastic band and Velcro for fastening.

As an example, we sewed a cover for an e-reader, so it has a vertical format. The tablet is most often used in a horizontal position, so the case for it should open up and also be able to be installed on a table, along the long side. Please pay Special attention on the connectors and buttons located on the sides of some models - these places should be left open.

So, let's sew a case for your tablet or e-book with your own hands!

It goes without saying that you have the opportunity to create a real masterpiece, which, in addition to its direct purposes, will also “delight your eye.” And yet, what is needed to sew an original case for a tablet? Below is the first version of a case made by yourself.

Before you start, prepare:

  • felt (colored). Cut it to fit the size of your existing tablet;
  • button;
  • 2 cardboards. Also cut to the size of the tablet;
  • rubber. To secure the tablet in the case
  • glue;
  • Let's get straight to work.

Before you sew a tablet case yourself, please note that if you do not have felt, you can replace it with another suitable fabric. It could even be leather or leather substitutes. In general, you can use whatever you want. Now let's start with the work plan.
Glue a correspondingly sized piece of leather or other material of your choice onto each cardboard. Make sure that between these cardboards there is short distance. This is necessary so that you can easily close the case in the future. That is, make a case for your tablet like a book.

Next, take the edges of the remaining fabric and fold them inward. Now glue them to the cardboard. Glue the leather strips to the bottom. They should be 15 cm long and 1 cm wide. Cut these two strips into two even parts and attach them to the corners of the future cover using glue.

We sew a cover with our own hands

It is important to check how your tablet is “placed”. Next, glue 2 rubber bands to secure the tablet. The main work is already behind us.

Then, cut out a small piece of leather (or the same fabric) that will be slightly smaller in size than the tablet. Glue it inside. This is done in order to hide the cardboard, that is, to make the cover beautiful to look at. Sew all this carefully so that nothing comes apart or comes unglued.

In the end, all that remains is to make the fastener for the case. You will need a small piece of leather or fabric, as well as Velcro. On one side you need to glue a piece of leather (fabric), and on the other - Velcro. This way, you can close your case easily. Carefully sew it all on top. This way you will secure the result. This is all. Now you know how to sew a case for your tablet.

As you can see for yourself, there is nothing complicated here. And making a case for your tablet yourself is easy!

You can take a regular phone case as a sample. And then, using your imagination, make a similar model, but in slightly larger sizes.

This is done to allow the glue to dry completely. Now, take a ruler, open your book and mark the dimensions of the notch (according to your tablet). After that, cut out the pages.

All work has already been done. Your tablet case is ready.

You can make your own tablet case with your own hands using the first method, but add some original ideas. For example, you can place foam rubber on the outside between cardboard and fabric. This way you will make the case much softer.

You can decorate the case using various available materials. As an option, you can sew a case in the form of a clutch handbag, but just take into account the size of your tablet. Regarding fabrics, you can choose any you like - depending on your wishes and preferences.

And to put it another way, there are no restrictions in creating a case for your tablet. You can even come up with some interesting way to create your own iPad bag. And perhaps this method will exceed all your expectations and will be very popular.

We glue the three finished parts onto plastic. Next, we iron the fabric well and glue the parts to its wrong side so that the plastic is at the top. This is done as follows: first glue the largest part, with rounded corners to the left, mark the top and bottom stripes with soap (so that the remaining parts go smoothly), retreating 1.5 centimeters, glue the part with right angles and, retreating another 0.3 centimeters, glue the remaining part, rounded corners to the right.

Leaving one centimeter at the edges, carefully cut the fabric. We wrap the edges and glue them inside. We glue elastic bands to the large part at the corners, and sew leather fabric on the outside. We attach a clip on top that will hold the case itself when it is in a standing position.

And if you are not at all interested in these ideas, please pay attention to the video selection. Perhaps you will like something there, and you will definitely try it.

The age of new technologies is coming. Almost every day new models of smartphones, phones, and tablets are invented and released into the world. All these things are in demand and in many cases necessary for a modern resident of a metropolis.

Every person who has bought a brand new, long-awaited model of phone or tablet strives to keep it safe and sound.

In order not to break or scratch your equipment again, special accessories are purchased in stores in the form protective films, trinkets rubbing, covers. Many of these things are quite inexpensive, and some can cost you the price of a brand new handbag.

But there is always an excellent low-budget solution - these are accessories made with your own hands, that is, hand-made.

In this article I will tell you how to make a real book-shaped tablet case from an old bag, cardboard and a couple of scraps.

For the case you will need:

- cardboard
- scissors
- artificial or genuine leather (I took the top of an old bag)
- fabric for lining (it’s better to take thick fabric, not slippery, I use velor)
- glue “Moment”
- Super glue
- hot glue gun
- elastic band, black
- Velcro

I made this book case for my tablet in just an hour and a half. The cover was needed urgently. And in order not to waste money, I decided to make it myself.

I had an unnecessary bag that I only carried for a month, after which its lock broke. It was a shame to throw it away, and I simply put it aside until better times, that is, until I get around to fixing this unfortunate lock. But my hands didn’t get around to it the whole winter, and the bag hung and collected dust on the hanger.

I never thought that I would ever decide to reshape it and make a case for a tablet. But when I thought about what kind of cover to make for the cover book, I immediately remembered that very handbag.

Then I measured to see if the side of the bag would fit. Everything was fine, so I cut it into a suitable rectangle. Then I found a couple of scraps for the lining. I took glue, a heat gun, an elastic band, scissors and cardboard.

I’ll immediately make a reservation about cardboard. It is better to take cardboard that is dense, not brittle and not thick. Unfortunately, my cardboard turned out to be quite thick, so the cover turned out to be not very thin.

One more moment. If you have thin plastic, you can use that. I think it will be even better, because it will not get wet in water and the cover can be washed.

Well, I think I’m done with the introductory part, now I’ll tell you how to make this little case.

First, I traced the tablet using a pencil on cardboard.

I cut out two identical pieces from cardboard.

I covered the cardboard with pieces of fabric, folding the edges of the fabric to the inside.

Then I took a black elastic band and made holders out of it for the corners of the cardboard lining.

I glued both linings to a piece of faux leather cut from an old bag, leaving a distance between them equal to the thickness of the tablet.

After that, I trimmed the cover to the required size and, bending the corners, placed them on glue.

I made a clasp from the fastening part of the handle, gluing Velcro to the edge and placing the strap spine on super glue.

To keep your favorite gadgets looking presentable for as long as possible, you should put covers on them. Yes, in some stores their prices are very high, but it is not at all necessary to make such a purchase. You can make a tablet case with your own hands from any fabric, even jeans. You will get a beautiful cover that will preserve your favorite gadget for a long time.

Sewing a cover for a tablet from felt means decorating it beautifully, because this material has a fairly bright color. For this work you need to prepare the following materials:

  • Felt. It is recommended to use contrasting colors.
  • Duct tape. As alternative option it can be replaced with double-sided tape.
  • Textile. Preferably cotton.
  • Scissors and thread.
  • Needle.

Sewing instructions:

  1. First you need to measure the parameters of the gadget. This is necessary in order to know how much fabric to cut. After this, 2 pieces of equal size are cut out of felt. You should also cut out 2 pieces of fabric.
  2. Now the felt and cotton fabric are placed right side together. On sewing machine You should make an even seam running from top to bottom.
  3. Then the stitched seam should be ironed. It should be ironed towards the gasket. Now both parts are folded, you need to iron them.
  4. After this you need to make a valve for the cover. To do this, a rectangle is cut out of felt, the length of which is no more than 20 cm. It should be folded in half and stitched using a finishing method.
  5. Velcro or double-sided tape is attached to the inside of the valve. The part is attached to the case. The valve must be firmly sewn to the product, otherwise it will fall off.
