The USB flash drive is detected and disabled. The flash drive keeps turning off and on. When you remove the flash drive, it does not turn off. Computer problems

Modern user computer equipment It’s hard to imagine without the constant and active use of external memory drives. The most common of them are USB flash drives. Working with these devices is easy: just insert the drive into the appropriate slot and open a window with the contents. Once work is completed, it is safe to remove the device. However, many users encounter problems in using flash cards, which are often beyond human control. Let's figure out what to do if the flash drive constantly turns on and off when connected to a personal computer. Let's start by identifying the cause.

To begin troubleshooting, you need to understand where the problem lies. This or that case leads to different solutions to the problem. Let's divide them into main groups:

  • the reason is a computer malfunction;
  • The problem is with the external drive itself.

Also, all faults can be divided into software and hardware. Let's consider all the options in more detail.

Computer problems

  • Check the connector for contamination or mechanical damage. If present, they must be carefully removed;
  • if the device case is collapsible, then check the chip for overheating. If the board is hotter than usual, then the flash drive will have to be either replaced or repaired.
  • The simplest thing is to check the functionality of the flash drive on another computer. If it behaves the same way there, then the problem is clearly its malfunction.

When a flash drive is connected and immediately disconnected, and the reason is hidden in a hardware problem personal computer or the media itself, without special skills and equipment it will not be possible to eliminate the malfunction. Contact a professional to try to remove all important files from the drive in case of complete failure.

Software problem

Now let's look at problems that any PC user can solve. If everyone disconnects from your computer external drives connected to USB, then you need to start checking with the drivers. Find an archive with drivers for your computer on the Internet or install them from the disk that came with your purchase. It is also worth updating your operating system if you are using a licensed version. Often, developers update software for compatibility, which can cause connection problems external devices. If, when you connect the media, the operating system detects it as an “unidentified device,” then the problem lies in the drivers. Try to fix it using the diagnostics and troubleshooting wizard provided by Windows OS. As a result of the diagnosis, you will find out the exact cause.

If a flash drive with autorun disappears or appears in the list of connected drives, you can do the following:

  • open the launch window using the Win+R keys;
  • then enter the command gpedit.msc;
  • now go to the Administrative Templates - System section;
  • Select "Disable AutoPlay" on all drives.

This procedure is necessary in order to check the drive using antivirus program. In most cases, after disabling the autorun function, the drive remains recognized operating system. After this, immediately send the disk for scanning through an antivirus. After scanning and removing all threats, try turning on the drive with the autorun function. In the event that the card is not recorded important information, it is advisable to format it.

What to do if nothing helps?

If you cannot fix the problem yourself, it is recommended to contact the service. As practice shows, most drives of this type cannot be restored. Due to careless use or poor quality, the lifespan of devices is quite short.

All the testing and repair methods described in the article are accessible even to inexperienced users, so it’s worth starting with them.

Let's say you sent files to USB Flash Drive (flash drive), then clicked on the " "Removing the Device Safely" and instead of disconnecting the flash drive, the response was message :
""Windows cannot stop the 'Generic Volume' device because it is in use" . First, complete (close) all programs and windows that may be using this flash drive that cannot be disconnected.

Of course you can just pull it out USB drive, ignoring this message. Nothing bad will happen, but for the time being, both the flash drive and the information on it and the motherboard itself may be damaged.

There are special programs that provide extraction USB drives in “one click” (for example, convenient utility USB Safely Remove), as practice shows, these programs do not always save.

In such cases, you need to use the following set of instructions sequentially:

1. Close all running programs and open files.
2. Call the task manager ( Ctrl + Alt + Delete, or using Win+R open the command line and enter taskmgrOK)
3. In the Task Manager that opens, select the Processes tab.
4. Check explorer.exe and click on the “End process” button
5. In the window that opens "Are you sure you want to complete" explorer.exe" click "End process"
6. Go to the "Applications" tab of the task manager and click on the "New task..." button
7. Enter explorerOK
8. Try again extract USB Flash Drive by clicking on the “Safely Remove Hardware” icon
Good luck!

It is difficult to imagine a modern computer user without the constant and active use of external memory storage devices. The most common of them are USB flash drives. Comrades, help with advice - I don’t know where to dig anymore...
The essence of the question: there is an asus eee pc 701 integrated into the car... After a year of operation, a jamb arose - the flash drives fall off. I have all my music on removable flash cards of different capacities, and they all fall off periodically. Those. sings, sings, then the wind sound “tudum” occurs (sometimes without sound) and that’s it, the centrifuge cannot find more than one song. At the same time, it switches to the built-in 8 GB SD card and the music starts singing from it. Then, after a minute, the flash drive is found, and then lost again. What does it have to do with USB controller I don’t particularly blame the netbook motherboards - the touchscreen and SD don’t fall off, but continue to work normally. The flash drive continues to appear on my computer, but it won’t let me log into it - it says the device is not ready... I changed the USB wires and the hub. I stuck the flash drives directly into the beech - they still fell off. Where to dig? Who has any advice? I ask everyone to speak out, I haven’t been able to overcome this problem for a month now...

09.09.2010, 16:39

PS I tried a bunch of different flash drives...

09.09.2010, 17:19

try an active hub with separate power supply

09.09.2010, 17:20

The flash drive continues to appear on my computer, but it won’t let me log in - it says the device is not ready...

09.09.2010, 17:24

Usually flash drives are cut off due to lack of power. The fact that the touch works is not an indicator, it needs nothing at all...

Those. After this, the flash is absolutely unusable or can it be treated somehow?
Is “My Computer” your home computer or “My Computer” in Windows?

When the flash drive disappeared, I went to “my computer”, I saw the flash drive there, but I couldn’t log into it. It gives an error that the device is not ready or something else. Nearby is an SD card. She works. (In the device manager, both flash drives are visible: SD and a simple one, but a simple one with an exclamation mark. Like an error with firewood.) After a minute, the flash drive is found, the centrifuge offers to use it, and then the flash drive falls off again. On other computers everything is OK, all flash drives are working. I have a whole nursery of them, from 1 GB to 16...

09.09.2010, 17:39

I stuck the flash drives directly into the beech - they still fell off. Where to dig?

This is completely unclear...
I would start with:
- remembering what you changed on your computer (software, among other things) and then such a thing happened
- experiments, what happens to other devices plugged into the same USB? try some mouse
- see what the device manager says about USB ports when the flash drive is not working
- at what point is everything restored?
- Well, check for the virus at all times. It is unlikely, but it is not difficult to do.

09.09.2010, 18:36

I didn’t find in your project how you made USB.
"I stuck flash drives directly into the beech - they still fell off. Where should I dig?"
This is completely unclear...
Everything is simple here. The carcass of the laptop is stuffed into the depths of the torpedo and I can’t put the flash drive directly into the beech, since I would have to disassemble and reassemble everything. To do this, I brought out a USB cord, a good one, shielded. And I stayed with him for almost a year. Therefore, the expression “plugged the flash drive directly” should be interpreted as follows: I disassembled the torpedo and plugged the flash drive into the USB without any hubs or cords.

I would start with:
- remembering what you changed on your computer (software, among other things) and then such a mess began.
Changed absolutely nothing...
- experiments, what happens to other devices plugged into the same USB? try a mouse or something. The usb keyboard continues to work fine...

See what the device manager says about USB ports at the moment the flash drive is inoperable, everything is ok. There's a wax icon on the flash drive itself, well, I already said that...
- at what point is everything restored? It’s completely unclear... in my opinion it’s chaotic, regardless of any factors...
- Well, check for the virus at all times. It is unlikely, but it is not difficult to do. Well, I did this immediately after the first glitches... Everything is ok...

09.09.2010, 18:48

To do this, I brought out a USB cord, a good one, shielded. measure the voltage on this cord, under load, most likely less than 5 volts, the clave is enough, but the flash drive is not, the active hub will save you

09.09.2010, 18:51

Between which contacts should you measure the voltage?

09.09.2010, 18:55

between the extreme ones, but be careful, not too short on the body;)

09.09.2010, 19:14

On beech 4.86... On home PC -5.10...
What, not enough?

09.09.2010, 19:20

On beech 4.86 is this under load?
The usb standard allows a drop to 4.4 under load
but a minimum of 4.75V is recommended, and a maximum of 5.25V under full load

09.09.2010, 19:22

What does under load mean? The computer works as usual.. the music sings...

09.09.2010, 19:23

All consumers must be included in the usb port, in your case a flash drive

09.09.2010, 19:30

I went and connected the flash drive through the hub... Same thing under load.

09.09.2010, 19:36

09.09.2010, 19:46

try an active hub, a seven-port dlink and external power supply to him
There is no way to try the active hub, since there is no 5 V source in the car. And I am tormented by vague doubts that this will help, firstly because it worked for a whole year without an active hub, and secondly, why does SD not terminate? This is also an ordinary flash drive and it also shouldn’t have enough power...
Or no?

SD is often 3.3v for the eyes.:tease:
falls off from all 3 ports? The port on the left seems to give a damn about nutrition, unlike those on the right, sweat in everyone.

PS how is EEE's nutrition implemented?
There is a suspicion that your power supply has started to die from the cigarette lighter :).

09.09.2010, 20:31

Damn, haven't you tried smoking Yandex???
How much has already been written about this!

On ASUS eee 701 SDHC flash drives DO NOT work because the chipset bus is cut down by the BIOS in frequency and the supply voltage level is lowered to save energy because The chipset there is not entirely modern.

Symptoms: we plug in a flash drive, it is visible, we start writing or reading on it - it falls off and is not visible.

Treatment - download the eeectrl.exe utility from the Internet and put it in autoload - this utility returns the bus speed and voltage to normal and the SDHC flash drive starts working normally, but the battery runs out much faster due to the inefficiency of the microcircuits.

(Regular SD flash drives should work fine without the utility)

09.09.2010, 20:47

Comrade Stasik, do you know how to read, or do you read one line at a time? SDHC works very well in humans, they don’t work USB flash drives;)

USB flash drives can fall off for many reasons.

Dear Stasik! This is why I created a topic, to find out at least not the exact reasons, but all sorts of reasons! If you know, please be kind enough to answer, and not just talk. That's why it's a forum - for communication...

How long is the wire to the flash drive?
Is the wire somehow rolled into a ring?
It happens that an expensive shielded cable works worse or does not work at all when compared with a cheap unshielded one.
After some time, the contacts oxidize, resistance appears on the contacts - hence either a voltage drop or non-contact on the signal lines.
It happens that the connector on the laptop has already been loosened.
It happens that the connector falls off along with the cable due to vibration.

Check the connector and replace the wire, use the minimum length of wire. I think this will help.

Hello fellow sufferer. A completely similar problem arose after 6 months of using the Hedgehog in the car. True, the symptoms of appearance are somewhat different. It started with the fact that after loading the CF, it stopped seeing the flash drive soldered inside, although if you opened it (the flash drive) with a conductor, everything was on it. Restart the digital filter - and everything works fine. I found out that for some reason the flash drive does not have time to initialize before loading the digital file. I delayed the start of the digital filter - the problem disappeared. but after a while the flash drive began to fall off during operation. Moreover, it is also there in the explorer, but it does not open. Rebooting the computer solved the problem for a while. However, all other devices connected to USB worked fine. I started playing music from a flash drive and listened to the radio. And then the next time I boot - there is no sound!!! and I have sound through an external USB sound card. I started to figure it out - there are no internal USB (except for the wheelbarrow that is connected instead of the camera) and an external keyboard connected via an active USB. No actions related to rearranging drivers, plugging sound into the HUB and deploying win from the image helped. The most interesting thing is that if instead of the keyboard you turn on a flash drive with music, the computer cannot open it either..... So I had to pull the beast out of the car - it lies waiting for dissection. I have a suspicion that this is somehow connected with the supply voltage of the internal USB ports. My laptop is powered through the battery connector, now I want to try it from my own external power supply. But they still won’t give me a hand - it might work out tomorrow.
