Firmware GI S8120 via USB. Receiver GI S8120 is an acceptable budget solution IPTV and MCAS plugin

Yes, it is no longer news, but believe me, it is very relevant for the price-opportunity relationship.

And so let’s clarify that the GI S8120 receiver has nothing in common with the FORTIS platform, because it is a development of the Chinese company FULAN ELECTRONICS LTD.

For all its compactness and relative cheapness, the model has all the capabilities of large Linux receivers.

And that's what we need!

The main feature of this terminal is the presence of two operating systems at once:

“Spark” is for ordinary users who do not want to understand the intricacies and intricacies of satellite science, and “Enigma 2” is for the most advanced fans of satellite television.

GI S8120 has a universal card reader with support for smart cards from popular providers such as Xtra TV, Rainbow TV, Telecard and others.
I would like to note the media player built into the receiver, which, thanks to a modern powerful processor, allows you to play a large number of multimedia formats:

AVI, MKV, FLV, MPG, MP3, TS, WMA, WMV, M2TS, ASF, DAT, and also output images via the HDMI interface with a resolution of up to 1080p.

The GI 8120 can operate under one of 2 possible shells: Spark or Enigma2.

By essence of Galaxy Innovations S-8120 is the simplest receiver in which you can familiarize yourself with the capabilities and configure work for Enigma2.

Thanks to the ability to replace the standard satellite DVB-S2 tuner, the receiver can easily “reincarnate” into a DVB-C cable or DVB-T terrestrial receiver.

In the satellite FullHD receiver GI S8120, of particular interest is the ability to work with USB HDD drives, on which it is proposed to save recorded TV shows or media files (video, photos, audio).

You can also create separate sections, test speed, and format elements. Recording is carried out via a high-speed USB 2.0 interface and is possible in three variations:

Normal, by timer and using the TimeShift function.

It is on external USB drives that it is proposed to save recorded TV programs, as well as media files (audio, video, photos), which the Gi S8120 can also play.

It is possible to implement support wireless networks via external USB Wi-Fi adapters. The list of additional applications is pleasantly varied.

In particular, on the Gi S8120, if desired, you can install a torrent client (ruTorrent, Transmission), a client for working with Google Maps, YouTube, weather forecast viewer, RSS reader, eMail and a lot of other useful things.
Receiver GI S 8120 ( Galaxy Innovations S 8120) is based on modern and powerful processor- STi7111, which, among other innovations, supports video signal output via the HDMI port in the maximum allowable resolution - 1080p (Full HD).

Additionally, the receiver is equipped with SCART and RCA connectors (“tulips”), which will allow you to connect it to outdated TV models.

In addition, the receiver has a coaxial SPDIF audio output for connecting to home theater, which will allow you to listen to sound in Dolby Digital format on TV channels where it is present.

But this is not all about the GI S8120 Receiver.

Right now we need to ask a pressing question: who else is tormented by the choice of GI s8120 enigma2 or spark?

Don’t worry, here is a working assembly based on OpenPli OpenAR-P OE2.0, which has been tested in all respects.

We select the initial settings. For LCD 32 connected via HDMI, I set the resolution to 1080i 50hz.

Good day, dear readers! Today, we will continue to examine the very popular topic of viewing satellite television. And to be literal, the topic of this article will sound like this: tuner and its settings. And it turns out it's very simple.

Of course, we’ll touch a little on the topic of everyone’s favorite freebie. After all, this is something without which the world is not nice to a Russian person. 😉 And the circumstances turned out that way. Because the software we are going to install supports free viewing Tricolor package in test mode. But, let's talk about everything in order.

It follows that if you experimented with installing additional software, then you need to boot from the standard shell again. If you haven’t changed anything yourself, then you can skip the next step; you won’t need it.

In order to return to the factory firmware of the GI S 8120 called Spark, you need to do the following simple steps, which are already familiar to us from the previous article. Namely, turn off the receiver using the toggle switch located on the back wall:

After that, press and hold the “OK” button on the front panel with your finger, and then turn on the device again with the button on the back wall:

Hold it until "Forc" appears on the display:

Then release the “OK” button and press the “Up” button on the far right once. The word "SPAR" should appear on the screen:

At this step, click "OK" again to confirm the selected action. That’s it, now we see the happy message “SUCC”, which tells us that the factory shell called Spark will now start loading:

Well, we have prepared the GI S8120 tuner itself for firmware. The only thing left to do is find the latest version of the software on the Internet and install it correctly. And here there is one important point.

Because now you are faced with a choice about what exactly you want to install: bare factory firmware, without any additions or settings, or a ready-to-use assembly, with a bunch of plugins, a list of channels, etc.

Personally, I prefer ready-made solutions, with minimal labor costs and without unnecessary dances with tambourines. I think you also have the same opinion. After all, you must admit, I just want to lie down quickly and start having fun: 😉

In general, if our views coincide with you, then read the article further very carefully. Because now the fun begins. After all, now you need to go to the profile forum giclub.tv and select the assembly you like:

It is worth saying that the choice there is simply huge. So the author liked a dump based on the latest software version 1.2.81 for our satellite receiver, from the author under the nickname sergbykov.

Let's say a huge thank you to him for his efforts. Freebie lovers will especially like this build, because there is something tasty for them:

As you can see, you can watch Tricolor for free. Although my personal opinion on this issue is that you should not rely 100% on this matter, since we all know that free cheese is only in a mousetrap. As a rule, this does not work for a long time. 🙁

So, step one: download the firmware for the tuner from the link here. Then take the flash drive from file systemFAT32:

And unpack the downloaded archive into its root app_db_plugin_201510231411. As a result, you should have a structure of files and folders, as in the screenshot below:

After this, turn on your GI S8120 tuner from the factory Spark firmware, and when it is fully loaded, insert our prepared USB drive with files into the corresponding connector on the back wall.

Now press the “Menu” button on the receiver’s control panel and select “System” in the window that opens:

And in the menu that opens, you need to select parameters, as in the picture below:

Well, that’s it, at this stage all you can do is wait and watch. After a few minutes of copying files, the system will give you a happy message like:

Then your satellite tuner will go to another reboot:

And here's the result: launch new firmware and Tricolor test channels work even without an Internet connection. What can I say, it’s certainly cool:

And this trick is implemented here, thanks to the emulator Oscam. By the way, if you remember, at the beginning of the article, the author provided a list of all the possibilities in terms of viewing freebies on this software build. Fortunately, there are plenty of relevant plugins available:

Although, of course, for good measure, you need to connect the cheap and cheerful one and forget about all the troubles. Because as was already said above, free things don’t last long. But again, we remember that all this is on .

It is also encouraging that the list of available Internet applications is constantly updated:

At this step, in principle, we have reached the finish line. But I would like to mention a couple more important nuances. For example, if suddenly after installing new firmware on the GI S8120 you have no signal at all, perform the following operations.

Press the "Menu" button on the tuner remote control and follow the path " Installation and configuration satellite." Then select a satellite from the list EutelSat (36.0E) and press the blue button on the remote control:

This should help you in case you are using multiple heads on one satellite dish. They will be automatically detected again.

If you encounter some strange glitches and glitches while the receiver is running, you may have to reset to factory settings and go through the entire debugging procedure again:

Sometimes force majeure happens right during the update of the firmware itself. For example, the process of copying files for some reason does not reach completion, and after that the tuner itself stops turning on altogether.

There is nothing wrong with this, you just need to use special debugging firmware, which we will talk about in. So stay tuned for blog updates.

Now let me take my leave, since the topic with the title GI S8120, Spark shell firmware fully disclosed. If you have any questions, ask them in the comments to the article.
