VIII Regional Scientific Conference "Technogenic Systems and Environmental Risk". I International (XIV Regional) scientific conference “Technogenic systems and environmental risk Experience of burning minor actinides from

NRNU MEPhI (Obninsk) hosted the 1st International Scientific Conference"Technogenic systems and environmental risk." The conference is aimed at considering current scientific problems related to the study of technogenic factors in the human environment, assessing the effect of these factors on humans and natural systems, and ensuring the environmental safety of the biosphere.

The conference preserves the 13-year tradition of holding a regional youth conference with the same name, the geography of which has long gone beyond the borders of the region. The international status of the event is confirmed by the regular participation of young specialists from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, as well as a significant increase in the number of foreign students at NRNU MEPhI - potential conference participants. In this regard, in the Year of Ecology, it was decided to assign this event the status international conference.

The event attracted a record number of participants. The conference organizing committee received 180 applications for participation from research and educational institutions in Obninsk, Kaluga, Moscow and the Moscow region (Dimitrovgrad, Pushchino), Bryansk, Irkutsk, Yoshkar-Ola, Kazan, Kirov, Kursk, Murmansk, Nizhny Novgorod, Novocherkassk, Orel, Rostov-on-Don, Saratov, Simferopol, Tomsk, Cherepovets, as well as Minsk, Mogilev, Gomel (Belarus), Kurchatov (Kazakhstan), Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan), Kiev (Ukraine). The conference was attended by 170 people who presented 80 in-person reports. A significant number of students of the Technical College and IATE NRNU MEPhI attended the plenary and sectional sessions as listeners. The share of foreign conference participants was 16%. The conference helps to increase the level of knowledge of young scientists and teachers, exchange experience in conducting scientific research and teaching activities, and establish connections between organizations, regions and countries.

At the grand opening of the conference, Deputy Director for Research and Innovation S.A. addressed the participants with a welcoming speech. Kosarev, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Biological Sciences R.M. Aleksakhin, head department ecology IATE NRNU MEPhI, Doctor of Biological Sciences A.A. Udalova.

The topic of the plenary session, from which the conference began, was dedicated to the Year of Ecology and covered both environmental safety issues in the field of atomic energy use and biomedical problems of non-ionizing radiation. Plenary reports were presented by Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, scientific director of VNIIRAE, chief ecologist of the “Breakthrough” project, Doctor of Biological Sciences R.M. Aleksakhin (Radioecology: problems of nuclear energy when using fast reactors and closing the nuclear fuel cycle) and Deputy Director for the organization of scientific and experimental work of the MRRC named after. A.F. Tsyba, Doctor of Medical Sciences L.P. Zhavoronkov (Low energy EMF is an environmentally significant factor. Reality and prospects). Both reports aroused great interest from the audience and lively discussion.

The conference traditionally featured six sections:

  • Section 1 “Nuclear and thermal energy, modern environmental technologies”;
  • Section 2 “Problems of waste disposal, radioactive waste storage facilities”;
  • Section 3 “Technogenic and environmental risks”;
  • Section 4 “Biotesting and bioindication of environmental objects”;
  • Section 5 “Environmental and pharmaceutical chemistry”;
  • Section 6 “Ecological aspects of the effects of non-ionizing and ionizing radiation.”

For the first time, within the framework of the scientific conference of the IATE NRNU MEPhI, a School Environmental Section was held, which turned out to be very fruitful and interesting. Pupils of grades 4-11 from schools in the Kaluga region presented 33 scientific reports.

Another distinctive feature of this year’s conference was the organization of the master class “Biotesting on Planarians”, which was conducted by Kh.P. Tiras (candidate of biological sciences, vice-rector for scientific and innovative work of the Pushchino State Natural Science Institute (Pushchino), Pushchino).

The breakout sessions were mainly attended by young participants. Their works, as a rule, reflect those research directions that are currently being implemented in leading scientific teams in Russia and neighboring countries.

During the conference, a student competition was held scientific works in each of the thematic sections, among the winners are students from National Research Nuclear University MEPhI:
